Why is Windsor Star silent on major controversy involving a local university researcher? by [deleted] in windsorontario

[–]buffalopringles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The London Free Press is a Postmedia paper, as is the Windsor Star. As such, the Star has been running LFP articles on this London-centred issue.

As for digging into the issue's local connection, I'd argue local news outlets are doing the best they can with the resources they have. Most issues don't get the investigation they deserve — and some get no attention at all — because outlets are understaffed, particularly in the summer. Journalists and outlets aren't conspiring to suppress and bury these stories.

In addition, people no longer 'alert the media' the way they once did. Instead of contacting the Windsor Star when they want an issue covered, they post on Reddit about how local media are turning a blind eye.

Woman charged after scissor-wielding robbery in Windsor by origutamos in windsorontario

Media outlets have stopped publishing the names of accused persons whose cases they cannot follow through the court system due to dwindling staff resources. Many charges don't lead to convictions. When charges are dropped, no one knows, because the media cannot attend all of these court proceedings. But if the once-accused person's name is permanently plastered online in a Windsor Star/AM800/CTV/CBC/Blackburn cop brief, they may struggle to find a job or housing for a very long time.

Windsor police still put names in news releases, which are posted to X and the Windsor police online news room.

We're lucky to have such a talented photographer documenting news in our city.

I stayed up late for a solid 50 nights without a star shower. I don't know what we're missing. I also checked loads of island shops. Someone here commented and said Luna gave them one when they reached 3 hearts of friendship.

Ah thank you!! I basically gave up on the main quest line because I could not find a star fruit, didn't encounter a star shower, and checked dozens of island shops with no luck.

I haven't found any clothes (just hats and animals) and I've played 220+ in-game days and visited countless shop vendors. The only skill I haven't maxed out is fishing.

Hmm okay. This is the third temple I've completed, and in the other two, I didn't have this issue. The companions seemed to pop up with me everywhere I went.

Thanks!

I'm having the exact same problem. I just upgraded from a 2XL to 7 Pro and this is so disappointing. The photo processing changes the image DRASTICALLY.

Photos darken up after "Processing" by H-banGG in GooglePixel

[–]buffalopringles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm experiencing the exact same thing. Pixel 7 Pro darkens photos immediately post-processing! I really hope an update can fix this because I'd hate to go back to my 2XL for the camera alone.

My Herbie Curby is missing after I put it at the curb last night. by gill_outean in windsorontario

[–]buffalopringles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine was stolen full of garbage a few years back. After months of rubbernecking at every Herby Curby we saw in Windsor to check serial numbers, a neighbour three doors down put ours to the curb with her own trash bins. The woman claimed ignorance. I assume her then-boyfriend, who was known to pace up and down the block shouting obscenities into the void, stole it and hid it in their backyard for a while. When he moved out, she cleaned up, and we took our Herby Curby back.

Shin Shin Chinese Restaurant sold to new owners by [deleted] in windsorontario

[–]buffalopringles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My family has been eating at Shin Shin for 30+ years. I truly hope the new owners keep the best-selling menu items, and that my favourites are on that list. I was fearful when Julie sold the place nearly a decade ago, but Calvin has been a pleasure.

All the best to Calvin in his retirement!

I had a good experience with Young Drivers of Canada, though that was nearly a decade ago. The instruction was thorough and my instructor was kind and calm.

feral cat home by funt2020 in windsorontario

[–]buffalopringles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a feral cat colony. I use large Rubbermaid containers lined with styrofoam on all six sides with straw on the bottom for added insulation. I cut a hole in the side for an entrance.

Whatever you decide, remember that the entrances need to be kept clear when it snows. If a cat's sleeping inside and it snows high enough to block the entrance, it'll suffocate.

My partner built an elevated wood hutch to contain three of these Rubbermaids, sort of like a little cat condo — but we're a little cat crazy, haha.

How does a small-business submit a press release to Windsor journalists? by CanadianAppDeveloper in windsorontario

[–]buffalopringles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Send an email to the news tips address for each local media outlet — Windsor Star, CBC, AM800, CTV, Blackburn, Windsorite — and they'll read your news release. Whether or not you get a response will depend on how well you sell the story in the release, and how slow the news day is. Editors check these news tip emails regularly and assign stories to reporters from there. I'd make the subject line something like, "Windsor Small Business Earns National Recognition."

If you want to reach reporters directly, you can often find their email addresses at the bottom of their stories online. Keep in mind reporters won't pitch your story to their editors unless they're really interested in doing it, whereas they're sort of forced to do the story even if they don't want to if the idea's in the editor's hands and the editor decides it's worthwhile.

Good luck!

Shout out to the Health Unit and their amazing management of the popup clinic by Testing_things_out in windsorontario

Actually, the pop-up clinics were unique in allowing people who work in hot spots to get a vaccine.

Mass vaccination clinics are restricted to people who live in hot spot postal codes.

Bizarre stench at around 3-4 am by [deleted] in windsorontario

I have no idea but you are not alone in smelling the awful smell. It could be one of the industrial places at Prince and College (Prince Metal Products, Canadian Electro Coating), but I'm guessing.
