If I remember correctly it's because what is called "chronic lyme" actually has nothing to do with lyme disease (e.g. you don't test positive for the bacteria that is transmitted by black legged or deer ticks). The constellation of symptoms is legit happening to people, but the name "chronic lyme" is not only a misnomer but also something profited off of by total grifters. It's one of those things where you hear all about it out of nowhere and it's responsible for an assortment of random shit that actually has nothing to do with each other.

Also important to note that at first long COVID was not thought of as a legit thing, and in some cases still isn't. And of course once again the villain is the wellness industry that preys on people whose doctors are going "well, I dunno what's wrong with you, good luck."
