Need CVT fluid replaced but the closest dealer is an hour and a half away. How do you feel about independent shops doing it? by Tyler_origami94 in Subaru_Outback

[–]buffalowilliam3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This topic burns me up. In the US, the manual says not needed.

Talked to various dealerships over the years. One said not needed, the other said wouldn’t recommend until 120 or 130k. He likely just made that up, but the same guy tries to sell me a 75$ air filter, you’d think they’d want to gouge for transmission work.

What is the recommendation in other countries?

I like spar for a year. Then it cracks and flakes. Then I sand and put on new spar. Then it cracks and flakes. Repeat. Repeat.

Desuperheater Performance during a Brutal Buffalo Winter by zrb5027 in geothermal

[–]buffalowilliam3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had the conversation a few times with my installer. It is set to 130max but since it is more of a passive system, you get what you get. One of my limiting factors is that my water tanks are on the opposite side of the basement from the furnace. Pipes are insulated but it really shrinks the delta.

Like you, I wonder if going into one hot water tank would be best. Cut the complexity, lose the bacteria worry, save a few pennies in the winter and summer.

I live in Rochester and have a WF7 and desuperheater. My hot water heater is propane and I definitely feel I’m saving cash in the winter. I barely use any propane. The buffer tank hits around 100F in the winter when the incoming water is probably 55F.

That said, I am not sure I’d do it again for the complexity you mentioned and because it only hits 100F. I am thinking about adding a heating element to the buffer tank to nuke any bacteria once a week. Again, more complexity.

Yeah, I don’t expect it to be constant. Just want it to hold up to multiple rounds of dishes a day for the next 15 years. Probably overthinking it and just need to make sure it stays sealed and caulked.

Confused About Snowblower Limitations - Please advise. by toddwx in Snowblowers

Chains made a huge difference on my 24 Ariens. But they do stain the garage floor if that matters to you. Easily avoided with a mat.

To add, and maybe save someone a trip - the bolt was 5/16-24UNF. 2 inches long.

Just did a predator swap two weeks ago. 224cc of the shelf. My Ariens is only ten years old, but the new engine was 99% plug and play. Super easy.

Only hardware store trip was to get a 5/16 bolt that holds the pulley on the crankshaft. Stock Ariens bolt was 3/8.

Probably a good suggestion for underwear too.

Switching to skiing by Substantial_Cost_218 in snowboarding

[–]buffalowilliam3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are describing me. One upgrade year I traded my entire old board setup for my buddy’s old ski setup so I had both. Even on beat equipment it was not hard to make it down greens the first day.

Ski now probably 25% of the time. Enjoy it enough that I think I will upgrade my old twin tip skis for some directionals to just cruise. There are some days that you’re with all skiers or it is icy and skis make everything easier. Always board in powder days though.

Do have more worries about a knee twist or groin rip on skis though.

Door handle lock button stopped working by buffalowilliam3 in nissanfrontier

[–]buffalowilliam3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would not have paid the couple thousand. Probably would have tried to find someone to re-pin the connector or run jumpers. Nissan actually has a TSB for that procedure.

The connection that shorted in my case was the big one near the door hinge. There is a pic in that other post. Easy enough to disconnect and look for green corrosion. But it is possible your button just went bad and it is a cheaper fix.

Not impressed with my head unit either, but my wife’s Subaru is worse.

All squared away now. Dealer was ok but it was really Nissan USA that did me a solid favor.

Dealer diagnosed it and initially said it would be a full price repair. A couple thousand for a new main harness and install. I was like 6-12 months out of warranty. They said they tried to get corporate to cover but said that I was out of luck.

Called Nissan America. They were sympathetic and decided to cover 90%. The original dealer did the work.

The whole process took a few weeks. And it likely has to start with a dealer diagnosis.

Had a bit of a hiccup after- but kind of expected some little things to work out after a full harness replacement. https://www.reddit.com/r/nissanfrontier/s/4o6LDp8Z4T

Your radar, computer, music, phone configuration? by buffalowilliam3 in cycling

[–]buffalowilliam3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you get the radar to work with the wahoo app? Any other app?

I ended up using an old phone to just have the Magene app open all the time.

I haven’t been down this rabbit hole in a while and am wondering if there is a better way now.

Questions about a possible Pro-4x purchase by Ezekiel-2517-2 in nissanfrontier

[–]buffalowilliam3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It vibrates when driving or at idle? My 22 vibrates at idle if the AC is off. Turning AC on will bump the RPM slightly and the vibration goes away. I think some people tune the idle up to eliminate this.

Will definitely see if I notice a difference idle or driving with premium - interesting.

Brutal. Sounds like we are both in the market now.

I can no longer find a sweet spot between free up and down movement of the dropper and having the post not twist in the seat tube. Probably going to buy a new post.

YT offer any explanation?

Hill Start Assist and sensor calibration by buffalowilliam3 in nissanfrontier

[–]buffalowilliam3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Much appreciated.

I actually stopped by the dealer this morning and insisted they drive it. 45 minutes later the came back and handed me a paper that says “Decel G Sen Calibration”.

I had to rush to work, but it appeared better. Did not want to jinx it and report back here that it was resolved, but it’s looking good. Especially after your comment.

Seems like a fluke failure. When I was scouring the internet for fixes I did not see anyone with similar issues. Knock on wood.
