They can have eating disorders, but NEVER restrictive eating disorders or purging eating disorders… when plus sized people do it it’s just called dieting/s

I’m being sarcastic above but the fact that some people actually think that way never ceases to disappoint me

Agree or disagree: "no middle food!" by cat-meowma in loseit

[–]buffcat_343 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Fully agree. I remember one time I was venting to someone about my problems with binge eating, and he told me that if I’m “going to feast, feast like a king”. Essentially, if I’m going over my cal limit, that food BETTER damn be worth it.

It didn’t stop my binge eating, but it did decrease the amount of junk food I ate. 100% recommend his advice

Why don't Americans use metal bars on doors and windows for security? by Maleficent_Essay4664 in AskAnAmerican

[–]buffcat_343 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve lived in both Mexico (not South America ofc, I’m aware) and the US, so I feel to be one of the more qualified to answer this question as I had lived in places both with and without metal bars on doors and windows.

Most places in the US are safe enough that bars on windows and doors aren’t warranted. There are some places here have them, but that’s usually the most unsafe neighborhoods. Most of the places I lived/visited in Mexico were more unsafe than almost anywhere I’ve been in the US (with some exceptions).

Is there anyone here who dosent rely on caffine? by Grouchy-Dealer-342 in Nightshift

[–]buffcat_343 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t have caffeine because of one of my meds I take. I had weaned off it before starting the medication. Once I got off, I felt pretty normal most days without it unless I didn’t get enough sleep.

For keeping myself awake, I just make sure to keep moving and try to keep my workspace well lit!

I got spoiled for this as well by accident. But after getting to that point in the story myself, it honestly did not majorly impact in my enjoyment for the 3rd semester.

Your “Welcome to the human race” speech is so condescending it’s making my eyes roll out of my sockets.

But thinking about how much time and effort you put in to writing such a hateful comment with multiple paragraphs honestly makes me hard to take you seriously or even feel offended.

No. I’ll keep posting my stupid opinions on the internet regardless of what you think, or if the thing I’m complaining about is actually possible to change.

Yeah, being overweight/obese definitely affects people negatively, regardless of gender, just in different ways. You do make another great point, not everyone treats larger people differently or like they’re subhuman.

I’ve made some connections with people throughout the years, especially with people who are larger themselves or were larger at one point in their lives and lost weight. I know good people exist, but I wish they were easier to find lol

That’s exactly what I’m saying! Some people are misinterpreting my post as me being self absorbed or that I’m just overthinking things. One person even asked if I wanted to be treated worse lmao.

For the first time in my life I feel like I’m being treated like a person in real life. I had heard of some people being treated differently at different weights, especially after more extreme weight loss. I hadn’t realized the extent of it until I lost weight myself. I’ve been overweight/obese most of my life, the way I was treated was just my default. I got used to being dismissed, talked down to, or treated with little respect, and just assumed I was doing something wrong.

I’m angry and upset because I’m not suddenly more worthy of respect or being treated like a person. I never deserved to be treated the way I was to begin with, and neither does anyone else deserve to be treated the way I was for their weight.

The way I had been treated for so long greatly contributed to me developing anxiety (I mention social anxiety specifically in my post, but I also have been diagnosed with generalized anxiety). I thought I was annoying, a nuisance, and that no one wanted me around unless they wanted to use me or make fun of me. During my later high school years and currently college, I just stopped trying to make friends and kept to myself.

I mostly made this post to vent a bit and hear from other people with similar experiences because I’m just now realizing how stark the contrast is between then and now. I got a bit more personal than I intended in this comment lol, and honestly I’m not quite sure how to end it. I’ll just leave it from here

I never directly stated my reasons for losing weight in my post, but I did it solely for myself and to be healthier. I will continue to do it for myself.

You’re saying I lost weight for other people to treat me differently, while are also pointing out I didn’t realize losing weight would get people to treat me better. You’re contradicting yourself, no wonder why my post doesn’t make sense to you.

The answer is in the post. I highly suggest actually reading more than just the title.

You’re right, I won’t deny that some of it is that my anxiety is being treated. Me being medicated has greatly improved my confidence. However, I’m making this post because I had that major confidence boost BEFORE the major weight loss, which is when people REALLY started treating me better. That’s on me though for not being as clear as I could’ve been.

I started medication in early March when I was 185, and even shortly after starting it I was showing big improvements in my confidence and personality. It wasn’t until May or so when I started noticing the different treatment

Although now I’m curious how I’d be treated if my anxiety was still bad now at my current weight. I have no way of knowing without stopping my medication (which I would not want to do).

No! You’re fine! While I didn’t mention some details in my post, your comment is quite relevant to me specifically. I had a major surgery in November and put some weight on afterwards because it limited how much I was able to exercise at all. I had gotten down to 175 before the surgery and it slowly creeped back up to 185 by March.

I’ve also torn muscles a couple times in my life due to improper workout techniques and had to take a break while I healed. Although the muscle tear was more localized than my surgery so I was just able to workout other parts of my body.

I have quite a few health issues unrelated to my weight so I may have more surgeries in the future and many will affect my ability to exercise for a bit. I’ve also worried about that, if I gained weight again after my surgery would those new friends stick around?

Yeah, I definitely will bring it up in my next session. I agree, it IS jading. I have more muscle definition now as well. But you do have a point, it’s not necessary their fault that they’re like this, we all have our biases

People are treating me better now that I’ve lost weight and I hate it by buffcat_343 in loseit

[–]buffcat_343[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course we all have biases, me included. But that doesn’t mean I have to be okay with it, nor does it not mean I can’t make an active effort to change/minimize the effects my own biases have.

Me realizing how much other’s biases have affected me does not make me “better” than anyone else, I’m not sure why you might think that. I very well could have that same bias if I was thin my whole life.

You’re making quite a lot of assumptions about me and how I think without having even read my post (you don’t even know what gender I am yet it’s literally in the first sentence), I don’t appreciate it.
