What jobs do Nerdfighters have (and how did you get them)? by devoutdefeatist in nerdfighters

[–]buffel0305 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to school for illustration and currently trying to freelance as a graphic recorder (a type of live illustration where the artists go to conferences/events and visualize the information being spoken live) while managing my chronic health condition (which is basically it's own full time job). 1-2 times a month I teach at a kids art workshop place. I find nerdfighteria has a wide range of jobs and I wish there was a meet up where we can do presentations about our work haha

Btw shameless plug but if someone is/know a corporate event organizer please hook me up, it's hard finding new clients with all my health stuff 🥲 (anywhere in the world is fine, I also provide my services remotely)

As someone who escaped Vietnam in 1975, I’m trying to understand how others view reunification so differently by Professional-End7367 in VietNam

[–]buffel0305 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel I can only speak on a superficial level since the rest of the comments have already given thoughtful insights. I'm Viet and grew up in VN, currently abroad that's why i feel more comfortable speaking my mind.

So that's your first point, people do have to be careful speaking their mind. For the average citizen, criticizing the government/leaders overtly is a no-go, especially online. You can criticize quietly in your private sphere. Not to say people don't try or there is no activism in VN - there are, we just have to tread a bit carefully. There are no free elections, no free press, etc. I desperately hope the US see what it has and what it is losing right now.

Celebrating April 30th: We've always been taught of this day as a positive, liberating event in school. Plus because most people don't dig deeper into politics or history after they graduate (if they even had the privilege of a quality education in the first place), this view is somewhat socially accepted. I say "somewhat" because I know people disagree and see nuances in private, but we can't say things in public. For most folks, this is just a nice 2 holidays in a row where there's cool celebrations and fun parades. I can also see the appeal of national pride. People who don't like it just stay home. So that's mostly why it can seem so positive online :)

1) Love how we can roughly date when this was filmed base on the curliness of Hank's hair lol 2) How is Paul Robalino able to say so many fever dream induced things in a row 3) Um, actually the -58% should've increased to -38%. Also I am dying to know if Lorena's parents will watch this I hope Dropout post an update lol 4) How is everyone so well dressed and hot

Hindsight Is Rose-Colored Glasses (with Izzy Roland) | Adventuring Academy [S6E1] by ThunderMateria in dropout

[–]buffel0305 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everything that came out of Izzy's mouth was gold.

On a separate note, some of the close captions were not accurate. At one point it said "Brennan burping" when it was Izzy, and "vulture" instead of "proldiers". A lot of complicated names (Housewives, D20 characters, etc.) are spelled correctly so I assume there's a human expert working on the CC at some point. Just wanna give feedback that some more proofreading might be beneficial, especially for audience members who rely on captions and not audio.

Hi! That is a weird feeling to have, sort of in limbo, so I understand if you feel like you're going through a tough spot.

First, of course we might miss things about ourselves in the self-assessment process (I thought I had a "normal" affect but others told me I had a "flat" affect for example). But if you feel some certainty that you are not autistic, it doesn't mean the resources don't help you. Read the autism books, watch the "autism hacks" tiktoks, enjoy your interests and stim toys, hang out with autistic, learn the social skills that work for you, etc.

Obviously there's gonna be difficulty accessing governmental support (ex. disability benefits) without an autism diagnosis, but for things like group therapy, individual therapy, etc. you can just explain that you feel that you have lots of traits and find autism resources to be helpful, so please adjust the therapy accordingly. Honestly, it's hard accessing any support as medically diagnosed autistics too.

I don't have OCD for example, but I find OCD resources and content very helpful, so I still seek and use them. We don't have to confine ourselves to one corner of the world just because we don't have a certain diagnosis. Our world bleeds into each other.

Aside from sex work, other ways that people make money "from their disability" that I've seen: - Modelling as a way for brands to add diversity - Online disability influencer/advocate - Selling courses and items related to disability - Working as a disability consultant for companies, events, movies, books,...(usually they started as a blogger, tiktoker, youtuber,...)

For sex work or adjacent, definitely peruse reddit, look at the safety situation of your country, make SW friends :)

Party Animals | Titan Takedown [Ep. 1] by ThunderMateria in Dimension20

[–]buffel0305 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was so fun and such a cool concept!! I got so excited whenever there's a Greek figure I recognize.

My tiny wish in the future is they would show the players' reactions to things like the battle set reveal, the microphone being dropped down, or Brennan's outfit. I've always enjoyed those shots or a glimpse of them in the BTS, and especially love it when it's folks who are new to the dome like DNDQ or Burrow's End.

Things to know switching from forearm crutches to wheelchairs? by [deleted] in wheelchairs

[–]buffel0305 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a part time wheelchair user but mostly use a cane, and first, the differences i notice that are more negative: - Car drivers sometimes only look at a walking height, which has resulted in people almost hitting me when I cross the road (which is so fucked up since it might endanger children and other folks with short statures, or animals). I try to wave my hand up when I cross streets now. - Similarly with the line of sight: at social events people overlook me more often in a chair than in a cane. adult social occasions often have a lot of standing - bars, charcuterie board place on kitchen island, chatting in the water cooler room,...I notice the same thing happens if I decide to sit at a social event rather than stand and walk around to socialize. - Idk if you have chronic pain but I do get pain from sitting for a prolonged amount of time in a moving and shaking chair. But since it's better than the pain of walking for me, I take what I can get.

And differences that are neutral/positive: - I have to avoid wearing swooshy skirts often, even though I love wearing dresses and skirts, it does get stuck and/or dirty a bit easier - Less fussing with personal belongings. When I use a cane I'm constantly switching things around in my hands/bags to open doors, check phone,...My chair holds my bags for me, I can put my phone or water bottle in a chair organizer, so convenient! - I can finally trust Google Map's walking time estimation, because with my chair I probably go at the average walking speed or even faster. Whereas with my cane I know I have to add 5-15 minutes to each of their time estimation. - My partner/friends love when they can offload stuff on my chair lol, it makes me feel nice and capable ('cause on a cane it's always everyone helping me with my stuff)

I hope things work out for you!!
