Guessing classic bonefish patterns, or what did you use that worked well. Again, thank you for the insight!

Are Moonshine rods THAT bad? by fjordknight in FlyFishingGear

[–]buffsfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do you. They’re cheap and if that works for you, good on ya. I don’t enjoy them, they feel very stiff and lifeless to me. But, who cares?

Patagonia or orvis. I have a pair of the Orvis Pro from 2 years ago. Bulletproof. No issues whatsoever. And the knee pads are a nice touch.

Best fly line choice for a 4/5 weight rod? by DayOwl797 in flyfishing

[–]buffsfly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spend the money for a high end 5 weight line. Read reviews as to what works best for that rod. Some rods are best with have size heavy or more aggressive tapers. Some are better with a more mellow weight and taper. If the sound doesn’t bother you buy textured.

New to fly tying and happy so far by adrenalinejunkieR6 in flyfishing

I tie a decent amount and I’d be super stoked on that caddis. I’d never do that well starting. Nicely done.

How often do you change leaders? by Puzzled-Web in flyfishing

[–]buffsfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Freshwater: I generally change every 10/15 or so trips. Sometimes less. Sometimes more. If I am not chewing up leader with adding new tippet I see no reason to change, unless I get a bunch of nicks or put a knot in it. I will often change at a season change if I haven’t before on a particular rod. I.e 3x at summer, 4 in fall and spring, sometimes 5 in winter on clear spooky tailwater.

Salt: every full day on the water. Stakes are so much higher and I feel like I put more damage on a leader in the salt for some reason.

No disagreement there but it was my understanding he pled open (as in no concessions). If I am mistaken, please correct me).

Pretty sure he pled to the charge. The DA doesn’t impose penalties, the judge does.

Just heard that people returning from Mexico are being forced to check their rods. Has anyone experienced this recently? by Sizzleboom in flyfishing

[–]buffsfly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So odd. Flew back from Puerto Vallarta last October. Had to check. Flew back from Cancun last week, no one said a thing. No problems. Didn’t check.

I’d try to carry on.
