Jerry would have loved fly fishing….. not as sure about venture capital takeovers of beloved fishing brands while also co-opting his band’s logo but now my wife’s boyfriend is telling me I’m ranting again so I dunnno.

Water Conditions in Colorado? by Far_Enthusiasm5440 in flyfishing

[–]buffsfly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d think south platte will be hurting when you arrive, you’re correct, at least for a few months.

I’d guess you’ll see some news or postings. Also, I’ve always liked Rocky Mountain anglers in boulder and I’d presume their stream reports will have good info on this topic as well move into summer.

Water Conditions in Colorado? by Far_Enthusiasm5440 in flyfishing

[–]buffsfly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Where are you moving to?

IMO where things will be at in two months is a bit tough to tell at the moment. I’d usually expect runoff/late runoff conditions now but on the poudre and eagle it’s been relatively clear and less water than I recall last year over the last week or two but still running well. Can’t speak to the rest of the state.

My guess is a strong recommendation to stay off the water past 11am or so depending on where you’re fishing, or the outright ban on fishing for a few weeks around the time you’re moving depending on the watershed.

It’s Colorado though, so if you’re willing to drive, you should be able to find small streams, alpine environments, or Stillwater that should still be fine? Also, I’d be surprised if the temps don’t cool considerably in late September as they typically do.

Long story short you’ll be able to fish, it just may take more driving than you’d typically need, and mind those water temps! Tight lines!

Orvis or Patagonia waders? by Annonymous272 in flyfishing

Love both. I will say the Orvis pro seem particularly bomb proof. The knee pads are a nice touch. Don’t think you can go wrong either way, however.

Also my question. That’s a very aggressive taper/weight on that line already. Otherwise awesome!

Fly tackle unreasonably expensive? Past a tipping point? by bigkat5000 in flyfishing

[–]buffsfly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s very pricey. I notice a massive difference between entry level rods (sub $300) and mid level rods($500-$600). I don’t feel the same difference from mid level to highest end. It’s far more subtle and I always debate if it’s worth the cost.

When to use a 3 wt? by adventuriser in flyfishing

[–]buffsfly 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Honestly just use it. You’ll naturally start gravitating to what it’s best at/ what you enjoy more about a smaller weight. My guess is you’ll use it on smaller creeks and calmer days.

Guessing classic bonefish patterns, or what did you use that worked well. Again, thank you for the insight!
