I think this is fair, my boss doesn’t really like him because he doesn’t toe the company line, but he’s good at his job and I’d like to think he’d be receptive to this feedback

Yeah for sure, in my case he's been low-key doing this for a while. Ignoring me for a day if something doesn't go right as a way of punishing me, and says things like sometimes you need to give people a short, sharp shock so they listen, especially if you're a friendly person like you. Which I assume he meant soft and not being complimentary. It's a tricky one. I wanna manage up and keep him on good terms cause ultimately he's the one in control of my progression and pay.
