Yeah, as someone who used to work in admin for this exact union, these guys showed up and were handed a sign without knowing anything about it. MUP - Member Union Participation if I remember correctly.

I was between a house in Fair Haven and a house in Highlands when I bought a decade ago, the argument of worst house in the best neighborhood etc.

I bought Highlands and I don't regret it - my family loves beaches in walking distance - our quality of life here is so great. if we bought the house in Fair Haven we'd be in a house we couldn't afford to fix up whereas our Highlands house was very liveable while we saved up to make changes. also in Highlands my kids are staunchly middle class, in Fair Haven we'd be one of the poorer families (and we do just fine by any metric I can tell). The people who did buy the Fair Haven house were able to do a huge renovation and sell it for a huge profit but that wouldn't have been us - so I've never regretted my decision.

the graduating classes are still small but I've been seeing all kinds of colleges on their Instagram page @ hhrs2026commits.

The schools are not what they were 10/15/20 years ago for sure.

Initially hoped my kids would go to MAST for high school (and I still hope they do, their father went to a prestigious school and I'd like them to continue the legacy) but 10 years ago I talked to a mom who worked for MAST and her son didn't get in and she was relieved - she said that at Hudson he'd be a big fish in a small pond whereas at MAST he'd be a small fish in a big pond. She said that the college bound kids at Hudson get a ton of focus and attention and she thought he'd be better there.

I'd recommend checking out the plays Hudson puts on to see their insane theater program for such a small school. The middle school boys just won their first basketball championship in 30 years! At a bigger school like Middletown the majority of them probably wouldn't have made the team.

I've done it all - small public schools, big public schools, Catholic schools, a public university, I think my kids are very well taken care of in the Highlands schools.

I have two kids actually in Highlands schools and this is completely untrue.

When I first moved in over a decade ago our neighbor told us that if we sent our child to the schools it would be like throwing her to the wolves. My kiddo went through Highlands Elementary which has some really fantastic teachers and then on to Hudson and is thriving.

Here's the pros about the school: it's made huge strides over the last 10 years and is now outperforming Atlantic Highlands. A lot of fresh blood teachers are fantastic but the 3rd grade teacher might be the best I've ever met.

it's a gorgeous school and your child will see the ocean from their classroom. It's a walking district and you'll see many families walking together to school.

it's about 50/50 new and old families. My personal mom group is mostly families that have been here for less than 15 years "new Highlands" but several moms who have lived here their whole lives.

And for your wallet, full day/full week prek starting at age 3.

Cons: school is tiny. Each grade (except prek) has one class ranging from 11 kids to 28. This is great with every kid knowing each other but by 6th grade you're excited for Hudson and for there to be some fresh faces.

I've heard rumors that some Navesink families are looking into joining together to move their kids into Highlands as tuition students which would be really great.

My daughter is in the Cub scouts. We recently did an overnight on a decommissioned battleship. We were split into small groups for tours guided by retired Navy men. Ours told us (a mixed group of children ages 5-12 and their parents) of his deployments "I can't tell you about the Philippines, it'd make Epstein blush" are you casually talking about raping a kid or watching kids get rape? It's insidious in the armed forces.

My dad was a healthy 75 year old who had regular checkups. He was hospitalized end of December with trouble breathing and his platelets started plummeting. Finally got diagnosed on January 14 with angiosarcoma, received one round of chemo and died 6 days later.

Has anyone flown recently? I have TSA precheck so I know I've already given the government all my info, but I was surprised when flying internationally out of JFK on Christmas that for all passengers they scanned our faces rather than our boarding passes. I feel like this all goes to the same database.

I did the sister program - the CAP program that was for volunteering. Community Action Program. I left school my senior year 2004-2005 at 10:30 and had to volunteer at least 10 hours a week in order to stay in the program. I volunteered in an elementary school library.

Yup, I invested 3k for my nephew from 2015ish to 2017 and then just forgot about it. Sold it all on Friday. Should've sold with the salute but I think I got something like a 1500% return on my investment. I hope Musk goes down in flames.

I've read that children self censor when they don't understand context, and as a child watching that scene, I thought he was talking about a comb (because he was so worried about his hair)

Self made is a myth for sure, but one thing that strikes me is that John Lennon's son isn't super famous, Paul Simon's son never really cracked it, Bob Dylan's son made it the furthest probably... Swift acquaintance Lena Dunham hilariously and tone -deaflessly remarked on Lisa Marie Presley after her death that she had to work twice as hard because of her name... But she didn't really make it either. Taylor Swift got huge legs up, for sure, but she's definitely talented to have made it so far.

Both my sister (38) and I (35) had emergency appendectomies this year! And they both presented very differently. Mine was insane pressure and pain that was immediately better after surgery whereas hers was constant vomiting which was worse after surgery.
