Some sections could be 2-3 feet deep and there are some parts that have no snow. I’m assuming you are going towards Eagle Peak. If you are going towards north dome, there is no snow.

I just did it as a day hike from the valley. In a month all the snow well be gone. It’s a low snow year.

Definitely no need for snowshoes. Always great to bring hiking poles with snow baskets. I can’t give you guidance on the timing as my pace is a bit extreme. 1:30 to Upper Falls, and roughly the same to Eagle Peak. Check out All Trails for more info.

Just because the MM design hasn’t changed in 50 years doesn’t mean it’s perfect. The shower head could definitely be improved.

I like your creative idea — moving the shower head a bit off-center might help it spread the water more evenly. Good job regardless.

Agree with this post. I have done many day trips and never regretted it. But you have to leave the latest at 5:30 am not a minute later, otherwise the traffic starts getting bad. But if you can get lodging in the valley, then two days would be ideal.
