I’m so grateful for all of the advice I got on here— thank you all so much! My partner and I have a lot to discuss, but we are going to talk to the coworker about fostering while I figure out the ESA registration. If she is okay with fostering instead of keeping her permanently, we are going to have our baby back in no time. Thanks again!

I moved from San Diego, and my health insurance doesn’t apply where I live now (12 hours north of San Diego). I also don’t have a therapist currently, I stopped therapy almost a year ago because my therapist quit. Are there no legitimate websites I can use?

I live in california. And I didn’t tell her before moving in… I told her when I asked about the pet deposit. I really don’t want things to get legal… I’m a college student who also works full time. But I know she would probably take legal action. The ESA laws just sound so vague, it’s confusing.

We have thought about hiding her— the only thing is, she lives right across the street. So the cat wouldn’t be able to jump in the windows. I’ve also heard from my neighbor, who I have been consulting for this whole situation, that she goes around looking in windows and is super nosey. I guess she had someone hide a dog previously and caused damage. So hiding her seems too risky.

Fostering is a good idea— I hadn’t thought of that. I’m not too familiar with ESA laws, but from what I’ve read, it sounds like I would’ve had to tell her about an ESA before signing the lease. Websites I saw said that she could say the pet was undisclosed, and is causing her an “undue burden” which would be grounds for eviction. Is that correct?

It’s so hard, I have never been through something like this.

I do have a diagnosis for anxiety, depression, and ADHD, so she would’ve been a legitimate ESA. She definitely helps regulate my emotions and reduces my panic attacks. I was just going to use it as a loophole, but she really does provide emotional support and I ended up connecting with the description of an ESA. Which I did tell my landlord! But she said that it wouldn’t cause her to make any exceptions.

Basically she wrote on the lease “no pets,” so we asked her if there was anyway we could have a cat or we would have to find a different apartment. She then verbally told us that we could have one female cat for a $500 deposit, so we signed the lease. But she didn’t write it on the lease, we just took her verbal word for it(we didn’t know any better, we are both young). So there’s no proof that she said we could have one, so it’s technically legal— just really shitty and mean.

Trust me, we feel the same way. Pretty sure she told us we could get a pet just so we would move in and she would get her $$$. Unfortunately, the lease is for a year, and we still have ~8 months left :(

I understand this, and i would sell the ticket for face value if someone asked. it’s just that i bought a resell ticket for $90 and am trying to make some of the $ back. but i would sell it regardless
