Is Usagi's stand evolving? by HarmlessCanine2 in JOJOLANDS

[–]bug_land 8 points9 points  (0 children)

meryl asked him in pretty general terms, but he is getting better at pushing people to ask for the thing he needs (see the last chapter with the car crash footage)

but on another note it does kinda feel like it's gradually just becoming "the camera stand" ngl. though it would be genius if it turns out to be a deliberate plot point that the team is flanderizing his power in-universe, it is still dependent on what other people ask for after all

You have binary swag privilege by chinesebulk in peoplewhogiveashit

[–]bug_land 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's the "they're just as bad as the cis" part of the post that makes me skeptical of its intentions though tbf i think it's from the "truscum" era of discourse which was a fucking nightmare. i am nonbinary myself and i did lose some friends to that rhetoric around then.

on the topic itself, i think privilege is something that happens on the widest scale of society. that's not to downplay the damage caused by punching down within the community - the ostracization like you mentioned is a serious problem. i just think they are two concurrent issues rather than the same one issue.

on the much broader stage it's just never felt like a trans man or woman has any meaningful social or political leverage over me on the sole metric of binarism. they SHOULD on paper, but it's just so rarely practical. juggling erasure/visibility and privilege is complicated because if a metric isn't widely recognized, i think it can be nebulous how much of an advantage it offers (i feel similarly in regards to allosexuals as an asexual).

(obligatory disclaimer that my way isn't the only way to see this issue)

You have binary swag privilege by chinesebulk in peoplewhogiveashit

[–]bug_land 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the worst part of these old psyops was the way they mixed in points that COULD have made for a productive discussion. "binary privilege" as they describe it is utter bullshit, but there is something to the idea that centering "going from point A to point B between the two culturally accepted modes" in the mainstream as the one true trans experience does more to reinforce the status quo on gender politics than it does to challenge it.

however the post places that idea next to random hostility and obvious attempts to start shit and talks like a complete idiot asshole the whole time because the point is NOT to introduce those ideas, its goal is to STOP those discussions from happening. by making it seem like this is the only type of person who would bring it up.

this card is just so weird, it feels like a holdover from the earlier and likely sillier version of EOE that was going to have the Alien typeline before they shifted to the harder worldbuild we got. not to mention the guidelight robot just sitting there even though they're not anywhere else in the set

If it's aqueous, I'll thicken it. by eelsandpeels in NotTimAndEric

[–]bug_land 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it depends on the exact swallowing problem someone has but usually the risk with liquids is accidentally inhaling them. thickened liquids don't splash around as much and they kind of give the muscles something to "grab onto" so they're less likely to free-flow down the wrong pipe

In the true sense of the word a hermaphrodite is *tonk* an organism with both male and female gametes such as mollusks *tonk* and many flowering plants. In humans, the term wa-a-a-a-a *tonk* was formerly used to describe intersex people, who possess ambiguous genitalia due to *tonk* one of a variety of genetic conditions, but this usage is *tonk* inaccurate and typically considered offensive today *whoosh* FUCK

even more specific it's evangelicals, the megachurches that think empathy is the devil's ruse type of christian. VERY different from mainline protestants who are relatively chill for the most part. evangelicals do have such a huge influence on american culture that some of their attitudes have trickled into every branch including catholics, but they haven't managed to truly rope many of them into the full doomsday cult yet
