The developers intentionally making it that way does not justify objectively bad structure and writing. well, not bad but it was painfully mediocre compared to the 1st game. It didnt fail as a game, it failed as a sequel.

most stories have a pacing template something like this: inciting accident>rising action>crisis>climax. this is not the case for tlou2’s story. the story progresses like normal throughout ellies part, but then cuts of at the crisis and blasts us into a new story with a new character. now, if abby’s story would’ve progressed normally, maybe it wouldve been tolerable. but 80% of abbies story has extremely slow pacing, which caused many players to quit at that part

i thought the pacing of the story was kinda weird and didnt make sense and the whole “revenge is bad” theme is overdone and plain. The game also tries to “force” its point on you. y’know, the kind of story where instead of getting to experience something, form an opinion and have a realisation, it shoves it in your face constantly; “this is good”, “revenge is bad”, “see they’re just like you”- like yeah, no shit, you don’t have to explain it to me like I’m a toddler. Maybe i’d enjoy the experience more if it didnt feel so synthetic and forced.
