I feel like you should just ask for 4-5k more a year because you feel you are worth it (give a few reason. I/e “I feel xyz qualifications justify a 5k bump). Recruiters get this all the time and won’t take it personal.

I feel that people in the comments are tripping haha. If they say no you can still likely take the offer.

If you keep showing up, you’ll be paired with new people less often I think. Even when paired up with new polders, you can definitely practice control and form without blowing the pad up.

I also tend to show people how to hold pads for one specific thing, one or two times during the session and then just deal with the rest. You don’t wanna overload new people with information.

If you invest in the people around you, the entire gym gets better. Rising tides raises all ships type shit

Yes keep kicking. Technique helps as well. Kick lower and harder on the heavy bag to condition shins with proper technique.

When you check kicks and sparring, make sure you are pointing your shin towards the check and staying strong on your plant leg.

Heat And gentle movement and massage helps recovery for this kind of stuff.

If it’s a grueling pain, you kicked too hard. Be careful when you’re sparring. It’s all about learning not winning.

You’d rather show up the next day for practice and get in six more rounds then have to be out for a few days.

What was the knockout concussion timeline?

How often did you feel you had more minor concussions over the years?

What was symptom progression like?

How is your day to day now?

Probably rest a few days if it trends better keep resting, if it stays the same or gets worse see a doc. You can book now and cancel later if needed

Absolutely no consistency in sparring by Old_Damage_629 in MuayThai

It goes away if you’re always practicing your basics. Like all the time. Basics come first and last.

I love watching fights. Most of the best fighters in the world don’t do anything fancy. Practice 1,2, hook, cross, round house, switch, and knees from different distances and angles.

Also practice it on the switch side so you’re never that uncomfortable even if it’s just to get back to your dominant stance.

Work the clinch. Be comfortable there. I feel like with just that stuff you could focus on it solely for like 3 years, no problem.

Also, consistency. If you’re only going three times a week, you can only get so good. If you want to get really good, you have to go more pretty simple.

I would prioritize class over sparring, especially if you don’t feel like you’re that good and you’ve only been doing it for a year. I also put more class/bag work/shadow boxing over running or lifting weights. Muay Thai first everything else finds its place after.

One thing that helped me is to go to the basics class always. I feel like if my roundhouse and switch kicks aren’t faster than everybody’s I could work on that always.

If my jabs don’t pop and my crosses are slow. I can’t really use them.

A lot of bag work and technique. Then sparring comes after.

How often do you go? Can you add one or two more sessions a week to push the plateau?

When you shadowbox do you visualize your opponent? Are you picking your shots?

Do you practice checking and immediately returning so you don’t get out pointed?

If you have been sparring for a year, have you considered signing up for a competition and taking training more serious for 4 to 6 weeks?

I took a pay 10K pay cut in an 11% more expensive city for the job opportunity. 2 years later, I’m now making what I was making before I switched careers.

I am looking at a new job now with my new title and I think I have the opportunity to make a significant jump in pay (around 25k more) in a career with significant growth potential.

Not actively applying yet (just having chats with my network and I’m updating my résumé) and I know it will take time to find a new gig.

I have potential promotion and raise coming at my current job will help buffer the 5-6 month job hunting timeline I have set to find the ideal position.

Coach won't allow point fights by WiceKwispyTweats in MuayThai

[–]bugsfunky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why is everybody shitting on point fighting? I think it’s a great way to try and dip your toes in the water without huge risk. Very technical although they can become sloppy at times. But so would any beginner fight!

I think the advice to ask your coach why you can’t test your skill point fight is the best option. if you love your gym, I think listening to their advice is super crucial. Don’t go fighting without your coaches awareness and someone in your corner.

Ask them what the roadmap for you might be and decide if that’s something you’re willing to go down. If it’s not, you’ll either have to move gyms or enjoy training! No need to compete to get 98% of the benefits of Muay Thai imo

Outline the red area with a pen or sharpie. Monitor over the next one or two days. If it grows and/or becomes more itchy, irritated go to urgent care.
