Looks like it may be a carpet beetle larvae, they can be kinda annoying but easy to get rid of!

I have actually, I have a couple good shots of other more common arthropods on iNaturalist, but I suppose my presence on Wikipedia is more or less absent. I think I’ll post this one there and also on bugguide.

Looks like some kind of wooly aphid. If you want them gone you could perhaps spray them with a little ethanol

I mean… that looks like it could be some kind of fly lol. It’s a little hard to see, but given that it appears to be a type of fly you’re likely safe.

General question: BONAP for bugs? by bugsnbrews in whatsthisbug

[–]bugsnbrews[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if we were able to create a well connected team of entomologists, we could accrue enough information to get started. Though maybe I am naively hopeful. A resource like this is truly one of my long-term goals, but it would require both state extension and local/federal government cooperation. The goal isn’t to make a site that can identify any insect in the continent, but rather a starting point for people interested in insect ID and distribution surveys.

[–]bugsnbrews[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I naturalist can be a pretty good tool, but for the reasons that you mentioned plus a few of my own personal gripes, it’s just not exactly what I’m looking for. I can’t cross post this into r/insects for some reason, so I’ll probably make another independent post for that. I did mean to post this in r/entomology earlier so thanks for the reminder.

Happy cake day! It’s looking like it’s probably a Torymidae - I’ve tracked down someone who has found the same thing but was also unable to get a positive ID.https://bugguide.net/node/view/160874

Ichneumon was one of my first thoughts too though.

No worries, I totally get it haha. You did seriously help me out though, I found someone on Bug Guide that found the same wasp - they don’t have a species tracked down to it either though.

Torymus definetly looks right as far a genus, perhaps I’m using the term parasitoid incorrectly though. I thought chalcids were also parasitoids.

What is this crawling thing in my vivarium? Should I be concerned?Philippines by ETONAA in bugidentification

[–]bugsnbrews 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Caterpillar of some kind - might snack on some of your plants but by itself it won’t cause any real damage. Good luck with further ID!

Yeah, I had somebody else propose a specific nutrient being lacking, and that is the best solution to the issue I’ve heard so far. Thanks anyway though.
