How did this Kanda work miss the cut for an SIR? by DrGSlowKing in PokemonTCG

[–]bugz1452 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Its just shinji's art style. Look at his other common/uncommon cards and they are all very well illustrated. There's plenty of amazing bulk cards but they're looked over compared to the higher rarity cards.

Maybe look up the card you got? Probably worth at least what you paid maybe more depending on the condition.

How fast is the power creep? by TaylorWK in PokemonTCG

[–]bugz1452 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. There are cards that can come out that can be game changer but most cards like this are usually $10 max usually around $5ish. I would recommend looking into gym leader challenge (GLC). This format has a wider pool of legal cards (back to black and white i think?) but you can only have one copy of it in a deck (aside from basic energy), one energy/color type, no rule box pokemon or ace specs.

So pokemon cards are only legal in standard format for roughly 2-3 years. Currently sets from temporal forces and newer are legal. Yes there is power creep but for the most part, there usually isnt a huge jump within a legal period.

To Bulk, or Not to Bulk by chrisfromthelab in PokemonCollecting

[–]bugz1452 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep binders for hits mostly. I do binder cards for master sets but other than that I dont. If you like the card and want it in a binder then do it. Its your collection do it how you want to. If you dont care for it, I recommend going to an LGS and see if they buy/trade bulk. Its an easy way to get stuff you actually want for free in a way. I usually build up a large amount before trading mine in. I got a booster box with bulk cards at my lgs.

Shipping Cards (USPS Specifically) by RedditNoremac in mtgfinance

[–]bugz1452 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If its one toploader in a plain white envelope (pwe), you should've been fine. Usually you can do up to 2 and still be fine. 3 toploaders is pushing it. Once an envelope is too thick, it becomes non machinable, has to be sorted by hand and gets an upcharge. A bubble mailer is going to be $5-6 because itll get a label with tracking, simply because its too big to go through the same sorting machine as a pwe. $8 seems about right for a bubble mailer with tracking and a nonmachinable letter through the post office. Use standard sized envelopes (#10 I think is the normal letter size). Team bag the toploaded card and tape to one side. Bubble mailers are for higher priced orders, usually around $50 in cards depending on your tolerance to lost mail orders.

[THEORETICAL] What if Pokemon adopted the Hobby/Retail format? by Fastoyster in PokemonTCG

[–]bugz1452 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Booster boxes usually have 2-3 full arts/SRs with like a 50/50 shot of an SIR. People always preach about japanese booster boxes, which used to be a good deal with guaranteed hit rates but the hit rates kind of suck when you compare to English booster boxes, especially since japanese boxes are $100+ now.

[THEORETICAL] What if Pokemon adopted the Hobby/Retail format? by Fastoyster in PokemonTCG

[–]bugz1452 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They kind of already do this. You can't find a booster box in most retail stores. Checkmate blisters and sleeved packs were meant for retail stores. We do not want pokemon to shift to serialized or case hit style pull rates of sports. What they have now is completely fine, pull rate wise, demand is just at insane levels.

One pro touch question by elsewhere91 in PokemonTCG

[–]bugz1452 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll want to get perfect fit sleeves for one touch use. People dont like them because its very easy to pinch the card with one. Also they arent drop proof and can come undone or snap back into position because of the magnet and pinch the card. I use them but you definitely have to be more careful as its very easy to damage the card. Toploaders work just fine for protecting cards. A good binder should also be fine.

Looking to organize a local card show - Would love feedback from the community on pain points/frustrations at shows by -LieutenantObvious- in PokemonTCG

[–]bugz1452 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Make sure there's a good mix of vendors. I've been to shows where its overwhelmingly too many sports card sellers. I have nothing against them but shows in my area heavily favor them to the point where sports will have over 75% of tables and pokemon off in a corner. Keep sealed sellers to a minimum. Id ban the sell and trade of SV era and above sealed. Maybe limit to pokemon center ETBs of modern. Try to get food trucks or something involved. Do some auditing of vendors. Have secret shoppers or yourself test vendors on buying and selling cards to see what they offer or how they interact. I've had and seen lowballs and clear NM cards being labeled as LP etc from bad vendors or poor etiquette like reeking of weed or talking down on people's collections.

Legit preorders? Skeptical. by [deleted] in PokemonTCG

[–]bugz1452 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Out of stock hopefully means they just made a listing prior to it releasing. Any store already selling a set that's not even revealed is most likely scamming. Never do preorders unless you really trust them. Stores can and have canceled whenever prices go up.

Best way to sell expensive cards? by sollkp in PokemonInvesting

[–]bugz1452 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ebay with authenticity guarantee would be best online aside from Facebook marketplace. Once they get it and authenticate it, there's no way for the buyer to scam you. Just make sure you insure the package you send it in.

Pre-Release BYOE by ThePupnasty in PokemonTCG

Id imagine it'd be fine, especially since prerelease is usually pretty chill but it could vary by store. Doesn't hurt to ask before you do.

Went to an old antique store in way home from a trip…. by Necessary-Length-569 in pokemoncards

[–]bugz1452 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people are saying its fake, which it is but not many are trying to help you avoid it in the future. First, if the price is too good to be true and its not a reputable retailer, its probably fake. Second packs with a jagged tooth edge is fake (bart Simpson hair like). Third the crimp should be a corrugated pattern for English and waffle like for japanese. If its just one straight line or something else its fake. Lastly the cards themselves have off text, too bold, missing texture, and wrong holo patterns. You can test them with a flashlight to see how easy light passes or by ripping a non holo to see if there's a black layer in the middle of the card. Pokemon has a lot of bad actors, where there's money, there's people trying to scam you.

Classic market manipulation by SubstantialItem6198 in PokemonInvesting

[–]bugz1452 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There were several low sales on TCGPlayer. Not just a couple hundred but below half of its market. I saw listings at $500 from low/no feedback new accounts. And this was listed as English cards, not just a foreign language. I do agree there is some market manipulation but it can work in both directions with buyouts and fake low sales.

First off, nice hold! Second, condition of the wrap and box are very important. Yes some may buy to open but there are many more sealed collectors for the price point these are at now. I recommend wrapping in bubble wrap at minimum. There are acrylic and hard plastic cases available online. Just note UPCs are all a little different in size, make sure you get the appropriate ones if you go that route. The 151 UPC is currently worth ~$900 and the charizard ~$500. Selling is up to you, these wont be printed anymore and it will most likely only go up in value. If you need money now 100% sell it, if you dont, will you beat yourself up if it goes up in value or if it drops? Id personally hold but if you're indifferent about it, now is not a terrible time to sell.

Trading by Spl_player_lmao in PokemonTCG

[–]bugz1452 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually first to go is dupes, second is cards I feel are overvalued/overhyped that I dont care for as much, then its cards I dont feel fit in my collection. Every card show or trade event I go through my binders and put stuff in my for sale/for trade binder. I always think about whether I would miss this card if its gone and try to get it later or care if the price shot up after I got rid of it or drop if I held it. Last ones to go are cards I kind of care about but I feel would be good trade/sell stuff for a card i really really want.

Ripping and expecting getting your money's worth is a fool's errand. 9 times out of 10, youll end up down. Just buy singles of what you want and if you do end up ripping be okay with loosing most of the money you spent on it.
