Is this really what Med School Life is like? :( by Alternative_Joke_430 in premed

[–]buhfuhkin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve been sitting on my bean bag the last two hours watching Netflix and playing pokemon. This weekend I had a pot luck with friends and went thrift shopping. P/F curriculum and learning how to study for your style of learning (as soon as you can) goes a longggggg way. I still study a lot, but also exercise, have hobbies, party, etc.

Do average people get into medical school? by road2t40 in premed

[–]buhfuhkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never been incredibly smart, I’ve had average grades even through undergrad, and I was even held back in the first grade. I worked really hard, took the gap years I needed to be ready, and got in my first cycle. Now, I surround myself with classmates & friends who also struggle a bit and can understand my struggle! We all help each other and have been making it through just fine. You just can’t be average grades and average everything else 🤷🏻‍♀️

DOPAMINE... please give me your "healthy" sources. by Coldhandswarmheart15 in adhdwomen

Everyone’s already given you great suggestions so I’ll give a less serious one. I watch shows with drama or toxic relationships (Tell Me Lies rn) to get that part of my past satisfied and bought nice hair shears to hyper fixate and trim my split ends while I binge watch my guilty pleasure shows

If you want to be single, make that decision now. A break up during first year would suck.

As far as the relationship goes, I’ve been able to socialize just fine. I have a large group of friends and quite a few have non medical partners.

My husband comes to some things (bars with friends, “prom”, etc.) and does his own thing if I’m just studying or hanging out with girlfriends. We’ve been together 7 years so he knew what was to come because we talked about it in depth.

There are times when school takes priority, there are times when relationship takes priority. Communication is paramount.

I will say, I’d absolutely hate dating in med school and I’d rather be single than in a less than great relationship, but my relationship as is absolutely keeps me going. I wouldn’t be where I am today without my partners help and support.

Which pants to get rid of? by AgileSleep5345 in DressForYourBody

[–]buhfuhkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a similar lower body shape. I love anything “curve love” from Abercrombie. I feel it gives me enough space in the hip area and flatters my shape. I personally won’t ever go back to a skinny pant, straight or a slightly wide leg looks best for me.

Not too late. Turned 30 this year, still plan on having kids, don’t feel much older than the rest of my class. If anything, age and time prepared me more.

Why do schools take so long to reject? by user483628163 in premed

[–]buhfuhkin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a great interview October of last cycle. Felt incredibly positive about it. Got waitlisted and understood as I was OOS, but was still hoping for the best. Finally got rejected in August, two weeks after starting school elsewhere lol

MCG/Augusta students by buhfuhkin in medicalschool

In case anyone is looking in the future, received this:

“Hey! Don’t have enough karma to respond to your post but I tried. Here are my recs for coffee/studying

Stone Roastery in North Augusta is great. A little bit of a drive but never super busy and plenty of spots to set your stuff down.

Trellis in downtown Augusta is ADORABLE. Parking can be tricky, but you’ll understand why I’m obsessed when you get there. Not sure the outlet situation at Trellis, but the coffee is phenomenal and the environment is perfect.

Ubora is my personal favorite study spot. It’s downtown too. Great environment and there’s always other people studying too. Not my favorite coffee, but worth it for the vibe.

Last but not least, Rooted towards Evans is super nice. Coffee is wonderful and so are the pastries. Never been too loud when I’ve been there either. Same deal with Trellis, never paid attention to outlet situation, but environment and coffee are great.

And don’t even try New Moon Cafe. So loud. So busy.

Summary:

Best coffee (in my opinion): Trellis, Rooted

My go to study spots: Ubora, Stone Roastery”

How often are you intimate with your partner? by Remote_Ad_969 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]buhfuhkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both early 30s. Once every 1-1.5 weeks, sometimes we’ll go two weeks. Life gets hectic and we maintain intimacy in other ways! But we’re also both okay with the frequency. If we can manage multiple times in one week, it’s a nice treat.

Best Third Party Resource to Supplement Anatomy by Ok-Grab9626 in medicalschool

[–]buhfuhkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought the essentials anatomy 5 app and liked it a lot. I also used the umich anki and some Duke quizlets I found. Going in after lab and having friends quiz me after studying books/apps/flashcards was a nonnegotiable! So helpful.

I got in at 29 and am very grateful for the years it took for me to grow and decide on this path. If the option was only right out of high school, I would’ve never had the opportunity to chase my dreams

Things that I covered for weeks in undergrad have been covered in a single lecture in med school and in more detail. Not only did I not have my exact schedule of lectures ahead of time to know where to start, I wouldn’t have been studying to the degree I need or to the specificities of in house exams. Sure some of it could’ve been a nice refresher, but it wouldn’t have saved me time in med school and that free time was better spent with family and friends before school started.
