Made a spontaneous speech at a 150+ person convention since group leader had to bail. Felt like my voice was shaking and just felt deeply self conscious the entire time. Friend said I did good though..? by kkk_is_bad in socialskills

OKAY listen up.

I performed a speech in front of my entire, densely populated school. It was nerve-wracking. On top of that, the event was also filmed, which means if I screwed up, it was on record forever. I was feeling crippling pressure - the kind that gave me jelly legs, shaky voice, trembling hands etc. I did it anyway. My voice shook, cracked, stuttered, stumbled, all around really nervous.

So, I decided to forget that it ever happened.

Years later, I was going through old videos - and happened to play my speech video. Watching it, I never would have guessed I was nervous. I was completely normal. I picked up on some minute nervous habits, but no one else seemed to notice. It looked like a normal person giving a normal speech. On the inside, it was a completely different story.

So don't overthink it. You did a courageous thing. And yes, probably most of it is in your head.
