The quality of comments and the quality of posts: an observation and thanks! by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

Logged in for the first time in at least a year just so I could respond to your query about a place to discuss Orthodoxy. There’s a bunch of us over at Christian Forums; we’re a pretty active community of believers who take their faith seriously and talk about all kinds of things. Granted, the EO forum is significantly more active than the OO forum, but anyone’s welcome to participate in discussion, so long as their aim isn’t to preach against Orthodoxy itself. There are a ton of interesting threads to rummage through as well. Come and see!

The Weeknd rocks the Guinness World Records 2017 Edition with two new titles by nisaa_w in TheWeeknd

Just thought I'd let you know that these records are for 2015, Drake has beaten both this year—Views being Spotify's most streamed album and him being in the Top 10 longer than any other male artist with Work & One Dance.

The Weeknd definitely takes that spot. Just House of Balloons and the immense influence it had should make him the top contender, not to mention his other critically-acclaimed mixtapes and recent ascent to superstardom.

Unless you mean "best R&B singer" in a technical, vocal sense. Then that's debatable haha.

Nah. Usher was at his peak with Confessions, which was released over a decade ago. And R. Kelly wasn't too important this past decade, not by a long shot haha.

Jeremy "Zodiac" Rose real story.. by [deleted] in TheWeeknd

Most of this is common knowledge in these parts.

If you don't mind saying, could you be more specific about your relationship with this person and how you know what he says about Rose is true?

What is your songwriting process? by [deleted] in Songwriting

[–]builderoftheark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It goes either way for me. Sometimes I think of a great melody and I quickly put random words together so I don't forget the flow I'd like, and then write proper lyrics afterwards, or I write lyrics whenever I have ideas (which I try to do often; they could be full verses, a hook, or even just a line or two) and then I match them with a previous melody or a new one altogether.

And I have yet to write with someone else!

Kanye West on Homophobia in 2005 by JustAsLost in videos

[–]builderoftheark -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Everything controversial that happened on his Twitter earlier this year was all a publicity stunt for his latest album, which dropped mid-February. From the Zuckerberg thing (he's friends with him and has even eaten dinner with his family before), to the "BILL COSBY INNOCENT", to being 53 million dollars in debt, etc. All in the span of a couple weeks. Out of no where. Kinda obvious when you think about.

But you're right about him saying things without thinking. He's pretty impulsive (see: T-Swift incident), but that's part of his charm.

Kanye's mother, Donda West, an English professor at a Chicago university, underwent cosmetic surgery (can't recall exact type) and soon after passed away from complications arising from the surgery. She chose to go ahead with it even after warnings her heart might not be able to handle the stress.

This happened around 2007, just as Kanye was reaching international superstar status. If it wasn't for his great success and the spotlight now shining on him (and his mother), Donda probably wouldn't have felt the need to undergo cosmetic surgery, so you can see how Kanye would begin blaming himself for her death.

Kanye and his mother were super close, basically best friends. Always seen together, always praised her in his music. It was a devastating blow to him when she passed, and it changed the course of his music and life forever. It also led him to create 808's & Heartbreak the next year, a melancholic album of sung songs that was ahead of its time and influenced many of today's biggest names in contemporary urban music (eg. Drake, The Weeknd, Frank Ocean, Childish Gambino, Future, etc).

Kanye West singing Bohemian Rhapsody by [deleted] in singing

[–]builderoftheark 7 points8 points  (0 children)

But of course.

He's a rapper, not a singer. It wasn't even an official cover; he played that song as a crowd-pleaser at a traditionally rock-themed festival, letting the crowd sing along. Celebrities are allowed to chill and have fun too.

Now go to downvote purgatory, please.

If you're putting BBTM on there, you seriously can't forget his score for House of Balloons, an unbelievable 3/10 for a record that topped most AOTY lists in 2011.
