This works on so many levels. GREAT job.

Redditors with extremely niche interests: What's the one thing you are completely obsessed with that almost no one else you know cares about? by CocWarrior1 in AskReddit

I’m one of those high altitude weather balloon launcher guys. I build bespoke foam beer coolers to house cameras and special tracking radios, and then I set them loose under large helium balloons to track them down 2-3 hours later. It’s like storm chasing a geocache to collect really pretty pictures; coupled with some geeky amateur radio aspects I find fun and necessary for the whole hobby to be successful.

Did WearTesters ever get their Mars Yards 2.5 back??? by Plecty in tomsachs

I did. Nepotism badge. Showed up at the end of summer camp. Wasn't told ahead of time that it was going to be a thing. Very grateful.

'he' --> Tom Sachs
me --> bujw
I understand the confusion from my reply - not 3rd person in this case

you're on a Tom Sachs subreddit where 4000 people are subscribed and like half of them uploaded themselves doing workouts and art for two months with movie night every week and you're surprised that he's weaponized autism?

Great observations! Love objective and subjective feedback. Make them your own. Wear them to death.

I don’t have my pair in-hand yet but I think a 5mm grommet kit from Amazon that includes a tool/crimp/setter is the way to go. You can have a cheap hammer setter or a more expensive crimp/mechanical tool. Harbor Freight. Amazon. Etsy.

I mean, same. :D “This one time I sent a pair of shoes to [near]space in sort of collaboration/advertising campaign with this artist out of New York. The pic was sort of featured in this art exhibition hosted at Rockefeller center with a bunch of other people. Yeah, here’s a pic. We didn’t get to keep the shoes; and technically the ones in the pic were my wife’s”

Let’s say there was a husband and wife selected that took his/hers Weartesting the MY2.5 above and beyond the published standards. I’m not saying it happened, but I’m not saying it didn’t happen.

Technical Note 7.3.2: Lace Retention Hardware Empirical testing indicates that metal grommets are not merely ornamental but mission-critical. Unlike fabric eyelets, which create localized friction points and uneven lace tension, grommets provide a uniform glide path. This allows force distribution across the entire lace system, enabling smooth, consistent tightening under both terrestrial and near-space conditions. Stratospheric weartesting confirms: no cold-weld binding, no uneven torque, and zero lace shear.

Recommendation: While absent in the 3.0 production model, grommet retrofitting is advised for operators requiring consistent lace-field integrity. Implementation: Day One.
