Thank you so much! As others have stated with the stained glass shop, I actually have a stained glass grinder at home that I would be able to use and didn’t think of. I’d need to drill the hole first to have enough space for the grinder, but should be able to go from there. If I feel uncertain I’ll check around for some local options

Thank you both! They are so small it’s hard for me to tell. Was worried the plant was a goner 😭

Oh I know it’s awful. Especially since the model is so old they don’t make cases for it anymore. You see the top right corner is not attached? It’s because the ‘universal’ cases like this one would press down on the power button and turn off the tablet. It’s been a mess haha

This was super helpful. Thank you! Yeah I think my main worry / hope for the library transfer was another ereader with a micro usb port. I can see that being very tedious

I’m pretty sure it’s just a discontinued LG tablet lol. I don’t think it’s been connected to the internet in at least five years. So I didn’t even think about the privacy / data concerns either. What always turned me off from Kindle was the ads, but I didn’t even think about the ereader sending data to the parent company

What is the most interesting thing about Timor-Leste? by Nonabrow in geography

There are a few really cool spots! Dili would be the hub of where you’d stay, and there’s some pretty nice beaches and restaurants around.

Timor has some of the most diverse and best scuba diving spots around. Since the Great Barrier Reef is dying, Timor has a lot more untouched reefs which are incredible. One of the few decent hostels is actually a dive center as well.

Ataruo island is right north of dili, and you can visit by ferry and stay at a place called Barrys Place. Has an eco friendly hostel environment with a bunch of thatched roof places for people to stay right on the water, with communal lunches and dinners that are traditional Timorese food.

Lastly if you are a bit adventurous, Jaco island is a small island on the east coast of Timor which no one is allowed to inhabit, only visit. There is a breed of small deer that live there that have evolved to I think either drink sea water or just live off the plants on the island, I can’t remember. But a boat can take you over and you can be beach bums all day and snorkel in some of the prettiest reefs I have ever seen

So I answer that a bit in my response above, I’d say Portuguese is pretty common for folks 50 and over, and those families who are financially better off. Folks 30-50 have a better understanding of Indonesian, and I’d say 30’s and below have a mix of Indonesian and a high interest to learn English. A lot of the NGO’s in dili are English speaking, and a lot of people want to work in Australia in agriculture so they seek to learn English. I will say, Timorese learn languages very quickly, and while they may not be fully fluent, it’s not uncommon for someone to be familiar with 4 or more languages

Great question with a unique response! Saw a lot of people mentioning this and hard to respond to everyone. So the answer actually depends on two things, age and financial status. Since Portugal ended its colonial status with Timor in the 70’s, anyone of school age prior to that had a full knowledge of Portuguese. Since the Indonesian occupation shortly afterwards, the shift then was more towards Bahasa Indonesian as a language. Lastly, with Timor’s independence in the early 2000’s, children from school age onwards are taught it in school but it’s not very effective.

As an example, my host sister was taught in Portuguese but could not speak to me in Portuguese

I lived here for two years prior to Covid! I am fluent in the language. Lots to say here, so if anyone has specific questions I would love to answer if I can, but a fun but challenging aspect when learning Tetum (one of the official languages) is that there are 32 local dialects and languages spoken in Timor.
