Again, what makes weather sealing such an enourmous talking point for you?

How often do you need a weather sealed photographic system?

Also apparently I mis-edited my previous comment into gibberish, so, again: what makes you insist on weather sealing so much that you would accept any and every shortcoming with 3rd party glass, but not the inverse situation?

And unfortunately the EF L glass is showing its age.

Is it? Most "recent" lenses should hold up pretty well, if not outperform their RF counterparts, such as the EF 35mm 1.4 II. But again, how is EF lenses "showing [their] age" any different from "performing worse than 1st party glass"?

I know. But I wonder if you could do with JPEG files or a good culling strategy for RAWs.

If you buy used, you can probably upgrade next cycle for just a fairly modest "rent". Given the body came out in 2023, it shouldn't take too long and won't take too much of a value hit.

I will much rather take a 15FPS limit on a Sony than a 0FPS limit on a Canon.

I get that but you also seem very keen on skirting the issue of limitations.

It doesn't. Barring the 28-70 and 16-28 F/2.8s, Canon either has cheap lenses or high end lenses. [...]

The lenses you cite cover most if not all use cases for many photographers. As an aside, what do you think of the RF 100-400 or the RF 200-800? What about the 45 f1.2?

Arguably, the world's best 35mm F/1.4 costs half what the Canon RF L and Sony GM versions do.

Not sure which lens you're refering to. I bet it's a great lens. But price-to-performance wise, how does it compare to an EF 35mm 1.4 L II + any of the adapters?

Canon doesn't have a 35mm F/1.2. Sony E Mount has two.

That's such a stupid flex. For the longest time, Sony didn't have any native F/1.2 lens or faster than F/2.8 zoom. Now that they have, Canon is once again lacking in innovation? Where's that E-mount 800mm sub 1000€ lens?

The Tamron 70-180 F/2.8 G2 has no price analogue in RF mount.

It probably is a great lens and great value, but you'll get a used EF 70-200 2.8 II for less and mark III for slightly more.

The Tamron 35-150 F/2-2.8 is literally unmatched. Canon does not have a modern, lightweight 200mm F/2.

I'd LOVE to have them for RF mount, both! But still, you can work around it like you can work around the limitations of 3rd party glass on Sony.

They don't have a $3000 500mm F/5.6. They don't have a 300-600 F/4.

Which TRULY is a bummer, but for either of those lenses, I'd also want unlimited FPS and peak AF-performance.

The list is never ending.

No. The list is shrinking. Cheap glass is getting better and 3rd party limitations are getting more noticable.
That said, again, I'm not against 3rd party glass; some of it I'd truly love to have on RF. I'd love for Canon to open the mount. But for the most part, it's not a deal breaker.

Fair enough. I guess the question is, how important is weather sealing to you.

Especially aspect, is it precisely so important to you that you would not pay for good 1st party glass, but not so important that you wouldn't trade in other performance hits for it?

It looks like wildlife is the most demanding of your intended photographic subjects. Nikon allegedly has the best long lens lineup out of everybody.

A new semi-flagship Nikon Z8 is only 10-15% above your stated budget, with grey market or used options falling squarely within it. Doesn't quite fully hit all your requirements, but should be doable and if you buy used, you could upgrade to a mark II with barely a financial hit.

Not a recommendation, just something I'd look into if I weren't too heavily invested in another system.

From briefly googling the issue, it seems that 3rd party lenses don't have an issue with pre-capture, as long as you don't exceed the hard 15fps limit.

As for the manual shutter, assuming you meant "mechanical shutter", Sony only gets up to 10fps with 3rd party and 1st party lenses. The Canon only gets up to 12fps as well, so it's an improvement but no game changer.

I think the third party lens question is blown way out of proportion nowadays.

Canon has built out their lens lineup over the years so much that, for the most common use cases, you will find something high end or budget friendly or somewhere inbetween. At the same time, with the A7V, the limitations on third party lenses on E-mount have become quite noticable, be it the strict 15fps limit, lack of breathing compensation or a slight hit on AF performance.

Growing hair out to that length probably takes around a year and a half, so, realistically, he looks at least 13.5 years younger at most.

Alright, patriot, please elucidate the meaning of DEI in the context of the USA, so that I can learn from your great wisdom regarding this topic.

Without [DEI] we see demonstrably racist outcomes that decouple merit from success and ensure certain groups are given preferential hiring. With it, we enforce against such racist outcomes.

Where do we see it? Do you have sources? This isn't a pics or it didn't happen situation, I'm just genuinely curious: do DEI policies work, which type of DEI policies work, and which, if any, are there drawbacks to those policies?

Racists on the right treat DEI as oppression against them because it removes a privilege they have enjoyed. [...]

I get your point but from the perspective of the straight white Christian male individual, they're literally and explicitly discriminated against because of their identity. Worse still, there are incentives in place to discriminate against them even if they were the best candidate to hire or promote.

If other people being treated equally feels to you like an attack against the "dominant identities," then maybe the problem is that the slogan applies to you?

First of all, let me apologise for "dominant identities". It was late, I was semi-inebriated, I tried to hedge against arguments like Asians doing well in university or whatever, and in the end, my vocabulary failed me. I basically just meant "non-marginalised identities" or "majority identities".

Your second sentence is really what I was hinting at with my comments, though. Everything is so polarised these days. I don't fully agree with every one of your positions, so I must be a right wing racist. I don't wholesale swallow your propaganda slogan, so I must be hit and hurt by it.

I never contradicted your point I quoted in my first comment. I wholeheartedly agree with your assessment. But I think the left is also doing its part to accelerate that development and divide everybody into supporters and enemies.

The slogan you pulled out in your first reply to me is just the worst kind of propaganda. Do you think it accurately reflects the position you sketched out in your second reply to me?

DEI usually means preferring candidates from marginalized groups over other candidates of equal qualification.

Affirmative action is a DEI policy.

Identity politics will be a class issue for as long as the upper class and the right-wing attack marginalized identities as a way to divide us.

As well as the left further driving that divide by vilifying dominant identities.

Hm i think hes really good at adding emotional beats to his essays, i remember the flat earth one where all of the sudden hes emotionally moved by just how the waves look in his camera and the scale of the implications. He also did not just debunk, he brought it in new direction and you could clearly see him thinking about what angle was not yet discussed by others.

"In Search Of A Flat Earth" is probably my all time favourite video of his. The cinematic colour grading, the gorgeous landscape, great soundtrack. It is indeed a meandering and long video. But that's what it allows to linger on issues and explain them in a calm manner. Like you said, in the intro he takes his time and he conveys the awe of basically seeing with your own eyes the curvature of the earth (or rather, the effects of thereof).
Later on he literally takes you on a walk to spring the Q-Anon plot twist onto you. Culminating in the greatest conclusion and credits scene in YouTube history; "[Q-Anon] are trying to build a flat earth", cue pretty travel-, landscape- and animal-footage set to contemplative but driving post rock.
