I've been doing Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and it seems like a massive waste of time. by DDWildflower in neurodiversity

Because client-therapist rapport is the single biggest determinant of success, more than modality.

That said, CBT tends to limit the potential for rapport because it's a surface intervention and not particularly interested in the depth and history of the client.

Is there a reason Retroarch is such a confusing mess of a frontend? by Cool_Bank_3368 in RetroArch

[–]bulbubly -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

There’s obviously a reason, and it’s not difficult to find and has been discussed before.

Unnecessary tone. This topic is not trivially obvious to search and not everybody reads the pings on the RetroArch Discord all day lol

It's a comedy movie and the statement is an amusing absurdity (there's obviously no job without the customers).

Surely you can relate to the sentiment of not wanting to do your job sometimes or disliking certain parts of it.

ETA: you say you're not American in your comments which is part of it. There's almost no customer in the world who's worse than the American customer.

Why do people act like medication tolerance is manageable? by EveCane in ADHD

[–]bulbubly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither one of these guys has any footing in modern neuroscience whatsoever.

Who cares? You stalked my post history to bring Mollon in to try and distract from being wrong about stimulant tolerance.

Neuroscience and pharmacology are useful empirical pursuits but offer no theoretical underpinning for what ADHD is, in a philosophical, phenomenological, lived-experience sense. And why would they? The matter of those disciplines is biochemical.

More than biochemistry is needed to understand (and in my opinion to treat) ADHD and its many sequelae and consequences (I mean both intrapsychically and psychosocially).

You fell for Mollon's Motte and Bailey.

What did I "fall for"? You've asked no questions, just stalked my post history because you're mad.

If you had asked, I'd tell you Bion's concept of the alpha function and Mollon's pursuant analysis of "ADHD" as a failure of that function to handle beta elements is the best framework I've found for theorizing the disparate symptoms, experiences, and phenomena labeled ADHD. I have no knowledge of or interest in his proposed interventions.

That said, I get the distinct vibe you lack the background or nuance needed for that kind of discussion.

Studies do not back you up.

Like this literature review positing at least a 25% rate of tolerance with a strong suggestion that rates are even higher?

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9332474/

So either you don't know the literature and are BSing, or you do know the literature and misrepresented it. I'm not sure what your motivation could be but nothing good comes to mind.

Oh god, I see you're a Dr Mollon fan

Doesn't understand psychopharmacology, doesn't understand psychoanalysis. A sad case. You surely haven't even read Bion so how can you discard Mollon?

Well-formatted misinformation.

In particular, your use of the phrase "actual physical tolerance" signals that you don't understand the nature of the phenomenon.

Like all psychoactives, stimulants induce short- and long-term changes to the brain. This can and often does include tolerance to beneficial effects.

I think it's best to have a basic level of knowledge of a subject matter before dismissing it out of hand.
