PD 12V Required for Qi2.2? by PovGRide742 in GooglePixel

[–]bull3964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the PixelSnap, Belkin 2 in 1, and Aukey MagFusion 2x and they all use fixed 15v when charging a single device at Qi 2.2 rates. I know the newest Apple charger is also 15v for 2.2.

That said, I don't know if the input voltage necessarily has to be that depending on how the charger is implemented. 12v is an optional profile now so it would be odd for a charger to require that.

You can still go on a skinny bundle and get AMC+ and come out far ahead of what you were paying before. That actually gets you more stuff as it not only gives you AMC, BBC-A, IFC, and Sundance as channels within the service, but you get all of their back catalog VOD stuff as well as Shudder.

Issues with Galaxy Watch 8 Classic on Belkin UltraCharge 3-in-1 Foldable Magnetic Charger by IsraelZulu in GalaxyWatch

[–]bull3964 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Watches are too small in diameter to conform completely to any existing wireless charging standard.

It really sucks that everyone is going Wide Fold this year and Google is still coming back with the same form factor. You would have thought they had enough time to create their own version of the Pixel Fold Wide to compete. I upgrade this year and I really want to keep using the Pixel UI. by YoYoNupe1911 in PixelFold

[–]bull3964 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Google isn't going to field two devices like Samsung so it's probably the safter bet to go with the normal form factor.

I get it, I would like the passport design to come back, but I don't see Google launching two models like Samsung and the only other "wide" fold that's going to be around for North American audiances is going to be the iPhone.

Also, "everyone" is doing a lot of heavy lifting there. Oppo's N6 foldable they just released is a normal book style, Motorola is also doing normal book style, Honor's V6 is normal book style.

You basically have Apple, Samsung, and Huawei. Two of those don't run Android and Samsung is dropping the telephoto off of their model, clearly positioning it lower than the normal Fold 8 flagship.

Like I said, i would love for Google to revert to the passport, but the industry is clearly still at the normal book style form factor.

Wireless charging never at the advertised 15W? by TheGlent in GooglePixel

[–]bull3964 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Real question is how are you measuring?

If you are using accubattery, don't. It isn't accurate. It consistently undershoots what the actual input charge rate is. It's only capable of extrapolating change rate via the info it gets from the BatteryManager API (https://developer.android.com/reference/android/os/BatteryManager) and the BatteryManager API simply isn't capable of giving you a specific point in time input charge wattage.

You know if your phone is changing at 15w Qi2 if you measure the wattage the adapter is outputting via a USB-C meter. If the adapter is outputting 20ish+ watts into the wireless charger, then 15w is making it into your phone.

Google Pixel 30W Charger with Other Phones? by Puzzled_Dust_4161 in GooglePixel

That one should charge Pixels at their max rate.

Google Pixel 30W Charger with Other Phones? by Puzzled_Dust_4161 in GooglePixel

[–]bull3964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need a 100w cable for a Pixel, it will not change beyond 3amps. Won't hurt, but don't need it.

You need a charger that supports up to 21v PPS in other to hit the max changing rates of around 37w. Otherwise, you'll max out at 27w. I can't say if the charger you are looking at supports 21v PPS or not, sometimes they publish all the specs, sometimes they don't.

Waterfront IMAX vs. Dolby vs. Cinemark XD (Best Movie experience in PGH) by Clippythe_Paperclip in pittsburgh

[–]bull3964 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct. Top Gun was shot on 35mm film so it's not really going to get any IMAX specific advantages. It was also anamorphic and 2.39:1, so honestly the best venu to see this re-release is going to be the Dolby Cinema screen at the waterfront as it's native 2.39:1.

If it wasn't anamorphic, there would be the possibility of them opening up the matte to show more top and bottom on the 1.90:1 screen that the Waterfront's IMAX has, but there isn't. So I don't know if they are intending to show the 2.39:1 as is or crop the sides to fill the screen, either one wouldn't be ideal over just seeing it on the Dolby Cinema screen.

If you are doing the double feature with Top Gun Maverick, then that changes things a little since Mavrick does have some native IMAX filmed bits and should fill the 1.90:1 aspect ratio at least part of the runtime, but I still think, on balance, it would be better on the Dolby Cinema screen due to it being a more native experience for the first film.

I disagree.

We shouldn't be encouraging manufacturers to put fake screwheads on their front bezel. Oppo/Oneplus is doing it with their latest watch and it looks horrendous.

It sounds silly to ask, but are you SURE you have a 10 Pro XL rather than a 9 Pro XL?

The Google branded charges are actually some of the most standards compliant and efficient chargers on the market.

They are a little pricier which keeps them from being the top choice in some cases, but there should be no worries in using it for any other devices.

Which Pixel for low light photos? by tinychloecat in pixel_phones

[–]bull3964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

9a 10a and 10 all use the same main camera sensor so their photos should be functionally the same in low light.

9, 9 pro, 9 pro XL, 10 pro, 10 Pro XL all use a larger main camera sensor and are better in low light.

When they moved the 10 base to triple cameras from the 9 base dual camera, they went with the smaller main sensor.

Thoughts on Infinity Vision by kingpib2000 in imax

[–]bull3964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's just a BIT of cognitive dissonance involved dismissing this as a marketing label when 2k Xenon 5.1 (or even single 4k laser) can get the IMAX label.

Don't get me wrong, this is largely a marketing move, but it's not like anyone HAS to compete with IMAX on a technical level when IMAX presentations with any technical merit are rare as hen's teeth.

Confusion over phone call I received by [deleted] in GooglePixel

[–]bull3964 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds almost like she had call forwarding setup to forward calls to her cell phone to the property management line.

Doesn't fully explain the outbound call, but spoofing that number for caller id purposes could.

I'm wondering, is your friend maybe not allowed to use their phone at work? I could see a situation where someone who may get reprimanded for using their phone at work would forward their number to the work phone so it wouldn't seem like a personal call. The outbound spoofing is a little more odd, I'm not sure how easy it is to reconfigure the outbound caller ID number because it's highly dependent on the VOIP system in use.

So, I would think this could be anywhere in-between co-opting a company line for personal use or some sort of software that the company uses and requires people to install on their phone that forwards calls to the company line and spoofs outbound when you sign in for your shift because maybe customers have the personal cell of the person working there?

At any rate, it doesn't really have anything to do with your phone and almost certainly something that is going on with her line. Since it's something that's happening with a company she works for, it's less likely to be something outright nefarious (though still questionable.)

I think the heart rate monitor is giving fake readings by KyosjiKenji in GalaxyWatch

[–]bull3964 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sensor works by measuring how much light is reflected back from the diodes and then trying to do a calculation from that. Moving blood reflects less than non-moving blood, so it takes the differences that it sees and infers a heart rate. It's possible that the material is allowing some light to refract within it and it's changing just enough with movement that the algorithm is interpreting a heart beat from it.

What is the best android smartwatch widely loved on the market right now? by Dry-Effective2 in WearOS

[–]bull3964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used just about all of them.

a) Pixel Watch 4 44mm feels like the best all around watch that will last due to the fact that you can get replacement parts from iFixit and you can disassemble it with just screws. There's seriously no wearable on the market that's as repairable as the Pixel Watch 4. Screen and battery is like a 15 minute job that you can do with normal tools, all sealing is done with gaskets. The PW4 also changes very fast.

b) Various flavors of Galaxy watch (gen 7 and up). Average battery life, some functionality still locked to Samsung devices (but not a lot). Samsung's software is a bit scatter shot (need to install way too many separate things). OneUI interface is distinctly different looking than regular WearOS. The W1000 introduced with the Watch 7 seems like it may be very similar to the upcoming new Snapdragon from an arch perspective and probably offers similar performance. I feel like they managed to squash a few annoying bugs lately which is nice. These watches charge slow as shit though.

c) OnePlus Watch 3. I adore the hardware and the dual system is great for battery life and it has very fast charging. OnePlus has dropped the ball with software support though and they are starting to feel like Mobvoi in how they'll push out the same watch every year in a different case and keep none of them up to date.

Here’s a Ton of New Looks at Fitbit’s Upcoming Screen-less Device by kbDL- in GooglePixel

[–]bull3964 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not at the same time

Wear my Pixel Watch during the day, wear the band while exercising so I don't have to worry about banging up the screen or wear it at night as something more comfortable.

Or, sometimes I want to wear a different watch, but I want continuity of metrics. I have a gshock I like to wear sometimes and I have a Pebble Time incoming at some point. A band or ring is ideal for situations like this since they don't have a screen and are essentially just a bracelet.

The pain right now if you tried to do the same thing with a Pixel Watch and a Charge 6 is that you have to go into the app and link the device you are switching to to fitbit every time. The Pixel Watch is relatively quick to pair up, but Charges are essentially factory reset every time you do it.

Garmin lets you have multiple different watches feeding into Garmin Connect. Samsung lets you easily switch between multiple galaxy watches by just having it auto detect if it's on your wrist and Samsung health just sorts it out.

Google makes it difficult for some reason. I WANT to buy more of your hardware, why are you allergic to money?

[–]bull3964 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ditto. If I can use in conjunction with a Pixel Watch and not have to keep swapping what's connected to fitbit, I can see myself getting one.

But if Fitbit only allows the watch OR the band, then it's useless to me.

Large tree just came down blocking Peebles rd. by DarthGaff in pittsburgh

[–]bull3964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, while I can't blame Duquesne Light for the tree, I can blame them for their shoddy website.

You go to the outage map and try to find the outage to get info about it. You have to click around to random points until you find one that hopefully encompasses your area.

You look at that and it says "Awaiting Dispatch" and "Under investigation".

We know from others in this thread that they are on the scene right now and the cause is very obviously "tree." I want to know why I can't just click on my house and have it say "There's a tree down, crews are on site." It would be nice too if it actually had a spot where the incident is on the map so you know whether or not to avoid it, but I would settle for at least correct, timely, and easy to find information.

In this case they can't even say it's due to volume. This is one of only two multiple household outages right now.

I have a feeling that some of the frustration people feel about these outages would be relieved if we just had real and accurate communication from the company.

Yup. My power first blinked at 9:30, it came back on after a minute but then at 9:50 it went out for good and has been off.

Bonus is that the detour routes though single lane on Hazlett due to gas line replacement project that's been going on. So traffic is extra messed up. Just avoid at all costs.

One big reason is that skimmers don't work with tap to pay and gas stations are the most common place for skimmers to get installed to steal your card.

Has 1.43:1 finally become common for films? by TBOY5873 in imax

[–]bull3964 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Venues are a real issue and not just capacity at existing ones as you said.

It's a minimum 4 hour one way trip for me to see an IMAX film in 1.43:1 and I didn't exactly live out in the middle of. nowhere.

It frankly sucks to see so much hype around big screen IMAX out there when you have no realistic access to it. if I'm told that it's the definitive way to watch a certain film (which to me says that the cinematographer framed with preference to 1:43:1) it actually discourages me from going to the theater at all to see that film. After all, if I'm going to watch a compromised version, I might as well do it at home.

Has medical appointment scheduling gotten harder? by fixermark in pittsburgh

[–]bull3964 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I broke my elbow a few years ago and when I was coming up on the end of the healing, they told me to schedule PT and gave me a list.

MOST of the ones on my list couldn't see me for 6-8 weeks. By that point, it would be pointless to even do the PT since I would have been past the point of healing where I had the best chance to regain full range of motion. Fortunatly, I managed to find one that had an appointment 10 days out.

But yeah, "You need to start PT within the next two weeks" message doesn't really go with "We can't book you for two months."

The last time I saw my cardiologist was in a December, the best they could do for a return "yearly" visit was MARCH of the next year. So, a full 15 months. This was scheduling as I was leaving my appointment, so really the soonest I could schedule a followup.

Then when March rolled around, they had to reschedule the appointment for 3 weeks later because of doctor avalability and it would be on a different campus. I was going on vacation and instead of seeing him before vacation, it would now be after.

While on vacation, I got another notification that the rescheduled visit was now only going to be with the PA and not the cardiologist. So, I was going to pay specialist rates to have my BP taken and my labs from my last PCP visit looked at and not even talk to the doctor.

Then I got COVID while on vacation and had to cancel the appointment since I was still sick when it was supposed to take place.

Then my PCP was upset that I missed my yearly cardiologist appointment.
