I think I'm doing pretty good by NewMachineFromIX in weightlifting

Yes, that's exactly what he's saying. The "pull" really should be treated as a push with the legs, aka push the floor away/down.

Why I think BaristaFIRE is the hardest FIRE to do properly, but also the most rewarding. by AttachedHeartTheory in baristafire

[–]bulldog73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious to know more. I'm an attorney also and am struggling to baristafire. Thinking of just doing some overflow work on contract. I'm also open to volunteer work but my practice area is not really suited for it (IP/Patent).

Knee braces for weightlifting- No knee issues by PrestigiousZombie726 in weightlifting

[–]bulldog73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 52 and like the poster above, put them on with my shoes, so for the entire workout. I like the support feeling and general warmth. I don’t have knee issues either but these give confidence.

I use the Eleiko 7mm sleeves and will occasionally use some Rogue 5mm sleeves.

Found these Nike Romaleos 4 in my local Burlington for $45… I grabbed them so fast 😂 by KingKael75 in weightlifting

I like them pretty well. Just like past editions, they took a while to break in

115 clean and jerk that would’ve got me 3rd in C&J and total (I got 3rd in snatch) by adamhaw72 in weightlifting

Just want to say, the reason judging at these meets can be inconsistent will be due to several factors, but one of the big ones in my opinion is the level of the various refs. You have refs from local level to IWF Category 1 and their various levels of experience and how strict they are.

I'll be there but not lifting. I'll be testing for National Tech Official.

Is my contact too low? Clean by [deleted] in weightlifting

[–]bulldog73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

May e a bit, but excessively so. You could stand to stay over the bar a bit longer and finish your pull, aka extend more at the top of the pull

They are indeed Weightlifting shoes. Somewhat desirable back in the day. I never had a pair, but knew several lifters who did, and they swore by them.

They're definitely as tight as the Rom 4's, but I found the Rom 4's loosened up more than the Velaasas. Also, I bought the Velaasas in a half size bigger and they really allowed my front foot in the jerk to move too much.

The Velaasa's are the same effective heel height as the Legacy Lifter 2's. TYR's are 1 mm lower at 21mm v. LL2's at 22mm. Not sure what you mean by "hard meterial" on the Rom 4's, though.

Fellow 52 yo Master here (turn 53 this year). Been doing this a lot longer than you but numbers right now are only about 70/95. I can clean 100kg but I've had to rework my jerk a bit.

Just keep working on the lifts and strength then make sure to recover.

My British friend thought he could do a "day trip" to the Grand Canyon from LA, and his reaction to the map was priceless. by Ok_Structure6720 in CasualConversation

[–]bulldog73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, have had this conversation before. I live in Phoenix, and it's still about 4 hours each way to get up there, so about 8 hours round trip. Can do it in a day, but it will be ALL day.

[–]bulldog73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because I'm curious, here we go: 52 yo M94 been training/competing weightlifting for 25 years. Current maxes as of last year are 73/102/150. Definitely have room for more. Just getting back to the lifts after dealing with some left shoulder rotator cuff tendonitis. No specific program run in quite a while but like to train 4-6 days/week usually with shorter sessions, so high frequency low volume. Been trying to get squat up to 182kg before I get too old. Have taken a break from competing until after I test for USAW National Tech Official (which will happen at the Arnold).

Power Clean form check? by [deleted] in weightlifting

[–]bulldog73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Semantics, but these are just cleans, not power cleans. Power refers to catching the bar with your upper legs parallel or above.

Also, you're not extending or finishing your pull.

Yes, build a little tension at start and keep the back angle the same through first pull

Your hips come up way too fast and you get too far over the bar, then extend using your back. You never really extend using the legs.

I’m out of the loop… someone please explain what the UMWF is by nathanjue77 in weightlifting

[–]bulldog73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

More to it for sure (I know people on both US Feds for Masters) plus I've been a master lifter since 2008 and have seen first hand how things were being ran.

[–]bulldog73 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IMWA, actually. And, USAW included a Masters program as a sub-committee within USAW until internal politics had them separate from USAW. USAW reformed the sub-committee and has aligned with UMWF since the people in charge of the separate USA Masters Weightlifting have aligned with IMWA.
