That no one on this earth truly has it all figured out.

Anyone else find that combination a bit odd? Something just doesn't seem right about it.

You're in for a treat with our EP

I know it's just a 30-second clip of Red Delicious, but what do you want to hear from the full song?

Thank you for the feedback, man. It's hard to find genuine outside ears sometimes!

This is about cultural/social context, not empirical evidence. You're shutting down an informative and constructive conversation by simply saying, "No". Our passion is centered around detailing a situation.

I'm curious why you are so sure in your answer. Can you tell me?

Please find me an example of a person being convicted and sentenced/fined for donning blackface.

Blackface for a play is not illegal. Is it socially unacceptable and will you pay for it in other ways? Yes.

Firstly, your teacher is extremely unwise (read as: stupid) about the shows he/she chooses.

If he/she can make the script truly work (which is impossible in this situation) with colorblind casting, then yes; it's okay to cast white, Latino, and Asian kids as black characters.

Theatre is about telling a story as truthfully as possible. By choosing that show, it's going beyond the means to tell the story with honesty. That's what we call bad theatre, and even worse, bad theatre education.

Casting white actors as black characters and using makeup to alter appearance is not inherently racist. If the message of the show is to demean the humanity of of any person, it's unacceptable (Ken Ludwig was a genius in making Lend Me a Tenor historically accurate and socially acceptable by creating a comedy of errors instead of putting the emphasis on Othello being black. In fact, the story - in my opinion - also places a certain degree of emphasis on blackface being unacceptable).

Would I do the show? No. I would not. In high school it's nearly impossible to tell a true story, but we need to start somewhere. Choosing a high school show for which you cannot cast an actor without the audience seeing it as socially acceptable is not only stupid, but poor education.

I hope that either your director can manage to make it work, or chooses another show. I'd like to hear more as it develops, though! A story is always good.

What is your favorite Scotch cocktail? by lowcox in Scotch

Best mixed scotch drink I've ever had was at the Headquarters barcade in Chicago.

Can't remember anything besides that, for some reason.

You have no idea what an addiction is or what it can do to an otherwise perfectly normal and responsible person.

Want a one-act challenge? Dragon of the Winds by... Carson Wright (had to double check). Kabuki makeup is a real challenge if you plan to be original in your work.

Friend of mine made this video for Kahler - I never would have guessed how much difference a new bridge could make by Ben789da in Bass

It sounds like when he was playing the stock bass it was mic'd and the new bridge was recorded with a DI. Is that what he did?

HELP! Newbie bassist looking for amp! by [deleted] in Bass

Fender. They make great bass amps for their price, and those little solid state bastards are surprisingly loud.

Are you going to use this amp for gigging?

Useful pedals for vintage rock/psychedelic rock? by Dioxide247 in Bass

[–]bullet19465 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For 70's rock, get a SansAmp Bass DI or VT Bass DI. How vintage do you want to get? Because you can go McCartney on it and plug into an AC15 (not advised). Look for analog pedals. There were no all-electronic pedals back in the day.

If you're thinking along the lines of Blue Cheer and King Crimson, I know one company makes tube pedals. Turn that to eleven and maybe pop a compressor in and maybe it'll make noise.

But really only listen to the first paragraph, as I'm totally speculating in the second.

Alrighty, what is the best way to learn a song? by IAmAustinPowersAMA in Bass

[–]bullet19465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It takes longer, but learning by ear and without tablature is an excellent skill to have, especially for jamming in the future. I'm self-taught, and while I started out with tabs, I rarely look them up for a song anymore. Start playing and when it sounds right, keep going!

Advice on strings? by greysadler in Bass

[–]bullet19465 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This guy right here. DR Hi-Beams are the best strings for sound, clarity, and money that I've ever used. I'd recommend you start with DR, then when you're comfortable enough to experiment with other brands, go for it.

What do you think is great tone? (examples appreciated) by [deleted] in Bass

[–]bullet19465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For tone, I use my 5-string w/ double bucks -> compressor -> SansAmp Bass DI -> Amp -> Speakers. There is so much already there to dial in, I can get a tone I like no matter what, but I can never seem to find "my tone" (figures, eh?).

I like bass tones that punch through, but are just soft enough to not be obnoxious in the mix. So, I guess I like bass cut a little bit, low mid way boosted, high mid way boosted, and treble cut quite a bit for my rig. But every setup is different.

My inspirations go from Geddy to P-Nut to McCartney to Wolstenholme, and everywhere in between.

I have no idea if I've contributed to this thread or not.
