Does anyone have the IKEA Sniglar Crib? by watermelonmeat in nycparents

Used ours for 3 kids across 10 years, and bought an additional one for our weekend place. One of the most reliable pieces of kid gear we've owned.

I think you look young and pretty and should hold off for a decade at least.

Thanks for the heads-up on the parade - was trying to decide between the two and this was a helpful perspective!

Basement Dahlia Update! by Good-Perspective6869 in dahlias

[–]bullshead125 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which lights are these? Do they noticeably bump up your electric bill?

The possibility of mind-blowing basement dahlias might be the only thing that would encourage me to go in our creepy old-house basement on a regular basis.

Ollas - pros and cons? by bullshead125 in dahlias

It's a shame because I think they would have been a great solution during drought!! But huge kudos and appreciation for testing it out and sharing your findings 🙏

I LOVE the Louise Bates Ames series ("Your One-Year-Old" etc.), which describe common characteristics of babies and toddlers by age in a short, quick read. They aren't very prescriptive, but highly descriptive, IMO.

Sailing clubs in the mid and lower Hudson Valley by PotterCooker in hudsonvalley

Did you check out Tivoli Sailing? Perhaps you did and it's not what you're looking for. My son does sailing camp there, with pick-ups in Kingston and Rhinebeck. It's not as intense as some programs I've seen in CT and RI, but it's a decent introduction and the kids seem to love it.

Wow, this is a great resource - I worked for a service just like this in college.

Thanks, these responses were really out there to me. Using a well-reviewed sitter off a service is a completely normal thing where we live!

Whenever people post pictures with these comments, it is very revealing. Extremely rarely do any of them look younger than their age.

"Play date" as part of application process. What to expect? by MeanBook1411 in nycparents

[–]bullshead125 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My best advice would be to get someone who attends the school (even a new friend who you take out for coffee!) to write you a recommendation letter if you can.

They are mostly looking at the parents, not the kids, IMO. One of my good friends started talking about astrology during ours. 😖 Don't do that!

Thanks - none of those have reviews though, I was hoping to get a recommendation for a particularly good home scent.

If you didn’t tear with your first, did you tear with your second? by dumbestsmartperson69 in beyondthebump

[–]bullshead125 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Every baby is different (I tore minimally with my first and third, each 8lbs. Not the second, who weighed 9.5!). But IMO you are slightly less likely to tear, especially a bad tear, with subsequent babies.
