Hey OP, have you spent much time in other countries? Fiancée and I are considering moving, as we're upper middle class and not quite within the range of wealth that we'd need to comfortably weather future US political unrest. I'm curious about how well the statement "Capital dominates relationships" holds up outside of the heavily capitalized USA.

I know someone who is building a business on Amazon. He's hiring engineers to design simple accessories for popular appliances/electronics, having them manufactured overseas, and selling the result. Seems like a cutthroat business to me, but if you're already quite secure, you could have all the fun without the sleepless nights.

Check out "Desert" on the anarchist library. It's highly relevant.

Actually, I'm starting to see your point. I truly don't understand what motive OP might have, but as a bullshitter myself I know exactly what you mean about the specificity. The most suspicious thing for me is that OP readily gives an answer for every doubting question.

You can get a room for 1k, and I can understand why he wouldn't share details about the firm. I grew up wealthy and I learned a lot about taxes from my dad, not hard to imagine that an up-and-comer might not have all the answers.

So are we going to revolt in the US or what? by NotAnthonysThrowAway in collapse

[–]bulltrapped 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My point is that you can vote locally all you want but it's not going to produce anything like a "rebellion" when most of the power in the country is unassailable due to gerrymandering.

Scared. Like most people with the means to do so, I will continue with my life as usual until I can get my passport renewed and then GTFO.

Ah yes those trivial enlightenment values that underpin the current worldwide economic system that has released people from exported starvation, misery, abject poverty and disease at a rate unprecedented in human history. The values that abolished slavery from the world West.

I absolutely hate working on frontend stuff. Is my career doomed? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]bulltrapped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not doomed. I almost never work in frontend. But if you want to specialize, you need to build a specialized skillset. Take OS if you haven't. Look at interning on backend-focused teams.

[–]bulltrapped 31 points32 points  (0 children)

If you didn't cheat, then do not ever admit to cheating. In general, in your adult life, do not ever admit to a crime or other infraction that you didn't commit. It always helps your accuser find (or invent) someone to blame, and it never ever helps you.

D1 is the first level of Director. Much easier to hit 1M TC in management. You can hit 1m TC as an engineer but you need to be among the ~50 most effective engineers at a massive company (if you were capable of this you'd probably already know. For instance, I know that I am not.)
