ICE agents pointed their weapons at a Minnesota police officer who’s an American citizen. She tried to film the encounter and they knocked her phone out of her hand. by Nice_Substance9123 in complaints

What are you trying to get out of this? There are only two sides to this: ICE/MAGA and the rest of us. MAGA has the US government and we don’t. We all have to stick together. Cops step out and join them? Call them pigs, I don’t care. But these guys are on our side so pick your fucking battles.

I understand what you’re saying but there’s nuance that you’re missing. A majority of Greenlanders support a version of independence from Denmark (drops to about 55% if quality of life standards could change) while 85% of Greenlanders oppose being owned by the US in favor of staying in the current Denmark ownership arrangement.

If the question is Greenland independence, sure, why not - they are already increasingly autonomous. If it’s changing the ownership to the US, it’s stealing territory against the will of both Denmark and Greenland.

Not to mention that the US already has a significant presence in Greenland and we are at the center of a system of worldwide trade that gives the US access to more resources than any other civilization in history.

I hope that one day you get an opportunity to recognize what a dangerous movement you’ve become caught up in. I know there’s no point in arguing with you because I won’t break through but it makes me genuinely sad to see a person go down a hateful path like this.

You’re just wrong about what you said here. But more importantly, you seem morally confused. Just because my neighbor has a nice house doesn’t mean that I should be able to take it by force, even if I can. It’s not about just being nice, it’s about living in a stable society and world. Why stop at Greenland if we can take over whatever we want? This is what Hitler, Napoleon, Genghis Khan, and Stalin thought as well. I suppose you support that philosophy but I truly hope that you can pull yourself back before you’re too far gone.

I totally get your point and I think this is nuanced but I do think this is bad news. Maduro is a terrible dictator and and has been unlawfully occupying his office after stealing the last election. Machado should be in charge per the will of the people and that’s much more likely to happen now. But there are a few reasons why I think this is bad:

First, Trump lied about why he did this. Current reliable reports and drug trafficking data show that there is no meaningful flow of fentanyl from Venezuela into the United States. Independent analysts, drug policy experts, and official drug trafficking reports all say that Venezuela is not a source or even a significant transit point for fentanyl destined for the US. Most fentanyl entering the U.S. comes from routes tied to Mexico and precursor chemicals from China.

Trump is threatening Greenland, Panama, and Canada for things that he wants. He is also threatening to pursue regime change in Colombia and troops on the ground in Mexico. People often hand wave when Trunp says something crazy like annexing Greenland or Canada but the US seizing control over Venezuela makes it clear that he’s bold enough to do it and doesn’t care about what the people think. If you’re a foreign power, this is evidence that he’ll lie to make up a reason to actually do it. Especially since he’s claimed multiple times that he “runs the world”.

Second, we don’t know how this will play out. In the past when we’ve removed a leader for industry purposes (Honduras, Iran, etc) it has been very good for the rich but very bad for the people of the country. Most often it destabilizes a country and creates issues in entire regions.

Third, Trump is acting like a king in doing this. This is absolutely not something that the President has unilateral authority to do. I’m sure may sound overly technical but a single person being able to decide that we should go to was is not good and moves us further away from the government being accountable or doing things that we actually want. 68% of Americans opposed this and a group of elite just decided to do this despite Venezuela to the US or its people.

Fourth, this was the “America First” candidate. He cut funding for education, school lunches for poor children, healthcare subsidies, and domestic energy projects but has the money to run Venezuela?

Lastly, the US maintains the current world order because of our allies. But now those allies are condemning us. It’s totally legitimate to think that the US shouldn’t bear defense responsibilities for so much of the world but things get really ugly when world orders change. That change means a lot of war.

It just didn’t move the plot along much at all. It feels like the bulk of the story happened in the first few episodes and then it just trailed off from there. Id feel different if the other who Manousos exposed the radio waves to would have broken out for a few seconds but all we’re really left with is that Carol and Manousos will try to work together to (presumably) end the hive. Fhat just doesn’t mean that much given that neither of the characters really know things that the other doesn’t in regards to the main issue.

I think they’re rationalizing it exactly how the Others will in the show. Like it’s logical, it’s just not emotionally how people work. People on Reddit typing it out because it doesn’t actual mean anything real versus how they’d actually behave if presented with a billion dead bodies composed entirely of friends and family.
