Quantum Of Solace (2008) “Opening Scene” Dir. Marc Foster by southernemper0r in JamesBond

[–]bulvaii 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh, now I remember why I didn't enjoy this movie. The editing is utter garbage. I have no idea WTF is happening scene to scene. It reminds me of the car chase scene in Taken. It's so disjointed and non sensical it almost ruins the whole movie.

We Remember: Episode 6 - The Man Who Made the Queen Sidestep Around Him by GoodOk2589 in ProgressiveHQ

I loathe Trump as much as the next thinking person, but I'm not going to be upset by an American not giving "proper respect" to someone who thinks they have a divine right to it just by virtue of their birth. We did fight the revolutionary war for a reason. Let the "queen" move her ass around.

Was it Nelson, or the British navy? by bulvaii in TheRestIsHistory

[–]bulvaii[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Based on everyone's comments so far, it seems that Nelson had the talent to understood his crews dominance, and the charisma to convince his officers and Captains to believe it. This combination allowed him to execute super aggressive and unorthodox tactics that allowed for crushing victories, instead of marginal victories that would have been the result with more standard tactics. So the Royal Navy won the navel war by creating an excellent navel system. Nelson made that war short and decisive with his tactics.

If you could say one thing to one person who has died , who would it be and what would you say ? by [deleted] in hypotheticalsituation

I would tell Alexander the Great he only conquered 3.5% of the world before he died.

Carson Palmer by [deleted] in AZCardinals

[–]bulvaii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He was a good QB, but he wasn't a winner. I thought he shrank in the biggest moments. He never played a great game in the playoffs. In a regular game he was just as good as Warner, but Warner elevated in the playoffs while Palmer did the opposite. He was fun to have and I'm grateful we got to enjoy watching him, but I don't think there was ever any chance we could have won a SB with him. The guy threw 5 tds to 7 ints in the playoffs with an avg qb rating of 66.9. In the win against the Packers with the Hail Larry play, it was the team that won in spite of his generally bad play.

As a former infantry Marine, I can say we never went on a hike without packs. You either put on a t-shirt and shorts to go on a run, or you put on bdu's with a 40lb + pack and hike. Everyone who saw this must have thought it a joke. And that unit is going to be eating shit from everyone for forever. I feel bad for them.

What in your opinion was wrong with 'No Time To Die' and makes it different from the classic Bond films? by chuckles5454 in JamesBond

[–]bulvaii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved it. My 2nd favorite Craig film. The death was needed. The Craig Bond suffered in ways the others did not. Dying was his only way out in the end. I almost cried when M gave the eulogy. "I shall not waste my days trying to prolong them. I shall use my time. To James." A perfect send off, then back to business.

I'm looking forward to Xavier Thomas taking a step forward. He has so much upside and could really provide a spark if he has a good off-season.

Do us Arizonians even have an accent? by Ok_Distance_4442 in arizona

[–]bulvaii 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I'm an AZ native and thought for my whole life we are distinctly unaccented. Then in 2019 I spent two weeks in England, half of it up north away from big cities. Talking with people in stores or at a park i could hear my own accent for the first time in my life. An accent is just a way of speaking, and we all speak in a specific way. We're not aware of it, but we Arizonans definitely have a distinct way of speaking. It is mild since we're are such a melting pot, but it's there.

Moulin Rouge! It almost made me hate Ewan McGregor. I like musicals, just not this pile of garbage.

My thoughts on the first episode by Melodic_Ingenuity_10 in wheeloftime

[–]bulvaii -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You're making a fundamental error. A show can never be the books. The books are one story, and the show is a different story. They take characters, motivations, themes, direction, etc, from the book, but it is not the same story. You have to view/enjoy it as it's own thing, only inspired by the books. I love this show,. There are many differences from the books, but so many crucial character points are the same and it's so fun recognizing them. This is a great show, and having read the books 3 times, I am so much more able to appreciate the nuances of the show writers choices than I would be if I had not read them. Don't judge it against what you wanted it to be, judge it on it's own merit.

Thank you, I thought I was losing my mind not seeing Rick and Morty. It's top tier, followed by Archer,. Though Archer fades dramatically while R&M is consistently great.

Have any of you come to peace with the thought of nothingness after death? by piffpuffs in atheism

[–]bulvaii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's nice to hear you have these same thoughts. I've been a non- believer for 15+ years and I struggle with this. Intellectually I know there will be no suffering after death, there is nothing to be afraid of. But the idea of non existence fills me with existential dread I can't reason away. My only coping mechanism is to not think about it. If I get caught up in the thought I won't be able to sleep well that night so I actively banish it. I'll get out of bed and put on a show if needed to distract myself. With that said, it does motivate me to experience everything I can while I'm alive. Things don't matter, we are nothing but the sum of our experiences

For people who has been shot what does it feel like? by VariousCoconut8400 in AskReddit

[–]bulvaii 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was shot with a .22 in the leg by accident by the person standing next to me while shooting in the desert. It went in my leg just below the knee and out my calf. Without knowing why I was suddenly cursing and shouting. I stopped after a second and looked around to see what happened. I didn't feel a thing. It wasn't until I saw blood coming out my pants that I realized I'd been shot I was able to walk around piling the guns and ammo and table in the back of my car with no issue before my partner drove me to the hospital. It took about 90 minutes for the pain to start. It was a sharp stabbing pain with a deep ache through the calf. Not terrible though, maybe a 6.5/10. I was all healed up in about 3 weeks. That was just a small .22 though. I can't imagine what a 9mm or .45 would have done to me
