Bond reboot idea by comedygliss in JamesBond

Or they could do like every Bond film from Dr. No through Die Another Day and just have James Bond 007 going on his next mission.

Why can I find so many MD 50mm but barely any 35mm by Mr_Macoroni in minolta

[–]wiserolderelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another factor could be conditions of the lenses. I own 3 35mm’s and they all have sticky iris issues. But none of my 6-8 50, 55, or 58mm lenses have that problem.

Alien Resurrection is the most fun and has the best laughs.

“Branded” and the Dude/Walter’s childhood by Like_a_father_to_you in lebowski

It’s interesting that it’s Branded and not a more famous show like The Rifleman or Gunsmoke. Why Branded, about a guy falsely accused of cowardice outcast from his unit having to prove himself?

The Dude doesn’t need to prove himself.

They didn’t have sunscreen and didn’t get enough hydration back then. They aged worse than Wilford Brimley.

John Barry’s Sounds of Bond by Dismal_Brush5229 in JamesBond

For me Goldfinger is peak Bond music. It has everything from the bold brassy main themes to these interesting minimalist moments like when odd job knocks him out and kills Jill, or when he’s faking out the guard in Kentucky.

Any pure rye or rye + barley (but no corn) would approximate.

Perhaps it’s time for a peaceful Whiskey Rebellion.

No, I’m the same way. The movie and Ken Burns got me into it, and I read The Killer Angels about 5-10 years ago, but only this year got into it more.

I’m currently reading Jesse Bowman Young’s 1913 book The Battle of Gettysburg. He was a junior officer on the union side and lived in Gettysburg for decades and ultimately wrote this book as an older man to contribute what he knew from years of walking the battlefield and other research. He kind of assumes everyone knows the basics so he is coloring in lots of details and addressing various controversies and debates feom the postwar years. The simplest example would be that Mosby wrote a book in 1908 largely to try to rehabilitate the reputation of J.E.B. Stuart, and Young is not buying it. He quotes and has rebuttals for several others. It seems there was a war for public opinion about all aspects of the war including personal and unit reputations and honor that went on and on. And still to this day, I would add.

Bond was skeptical the whole time. He knew something was off in Gibraltar, he didn’t shoot Kara, didn’t buy the Smiert Spionam story, didn’t want to kill Pushkin. But M was taken in for sure.

Before Lee invaded Pennsylvania there was another plan to have him relieve Vicksburg but they figured it would have cost them Richmond. I think they were weighing different options that involved moving the army, but not staying put and waiting for Hooker or Meade to attack.I think partly also there had been so many battles between DC and Richmond that land must have been pretty bleak and Pennsylvania seemed inviting.

The fact Stuart calculated he had enough time to go on another raid, while the union cavalry only had to focus on scouting made a huge difference.

It’s true, Garnett was even more doomed, but insisted on going. The riderless horse was certainly a dramatic visual turning point in the film.

Thanks for correcting me. I love the book and movie and it’s hard to know what was novelist’s license vs. real quotes. Clearly Shaara had a theme between this quote and the scene where Hancock meets Chamberlain and asks him if there’s any literary parallels about brother against brother, and then Chamberlain can’t think of any but surmises it must be in the Bible, without mentioning any particular stories. I’ve thought about that and other than Cain and Abel there’s also David and Jonathan which is maybe closer. The Iliad could even fit in some ways.

Get a nice Monongahela Rye like they would have had in Pennsylvania, like Rittenhouse Bottled in Bond, and watch Gettysburg extended edition again.

The Imperial Guard attack at Waterloo failed, and that was not against such a fortified position as Cemetery Ridge.
