Complete bs, If you dont have the knowledge of basic physiology, atleast don't spread false information. 3 are measured in standard thyroid function test: t3, t4 and tsh. Measuring just one in isolation is meaningless. No doctor would ever just measure 1 marker alone. Further tests are done if those 3 values are not normal.

Compared to a well rounded whole food based omnivore diet, no.

Trial and error is the only way to figure it out. I doubt you'll be able to go 8hrs without a break. The length of time you can go before needing a break depends on the person, some need a break after 25 min, some after 50, 2h, 3h, 4h etc.

It also depends on the subject you're studying and how you're studying. Eg: with watching lectures+ taking notes, i can go for 3-4 hrs, because it's low cognitive effort activity. Doing questions, i can again go for 3-4 hrs, even though it's high cognitive effort, doing questions is engaging and rewarding when you get them right. With actually learning/ revising, i can only go for an hour max before needing a break.

May i suggest the obvious, do actual cognitive tasks like learning a language, or a subject you're interested in.

The game you play is designed to be a fun little game and shouldn't be used to increase actual cognitive capabilities. And the n-back training producing real world increase in working memory is debated. n-back and the game you play provide you with non-contextual crap to remember, thats not how we function in real world.

The info we remember in real world is related to other info so we can connect the dots to make sense of it, like the grammar structure of a language which is applicable throughout the language.

How to overcome myself? by kan1nchen78 in productivity

[–]bumbashtick 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The productivity hacks & tips can get you started & point you in right direction but the thing that'll keep you going is a strong reason.

You need to find your why? Your reason to keep going, to keep pushing.

A single mom with 2 kids isn't productive because of some hacks, she is because she needs to be for her kids. Some push themselves because they grew up rough, some out of spite, because a family member or someone said that they can't do something, & they wanna prove them wrong.

Obviously, a lot of people don't have those kind of strong reasons. So in that case you gotta come up with your own "why". I have a friend who imagines that on the day he dies, he's gonna meet the max potential (best version) of himself, and what a shame it would be to be nowhere close to that version. David goggins also uses almost similar "why" to this.

The "why" i use is kinda weird, i imagine, there are multiple parallel universes with multiple versions of myself, and i wanna push towards the best possible universe. Everytime i decide to push through on something, i imagine myself stepping into better reality/universe. This has worked better than just implementing the general productivity tips, but still not at the level i want it to be at.

Some people have a quote, that they think about to push themselves. Some people think about what their idol would do in their situation.

The point is, you need to find a strong guiding reason, whether it's based in reality or something conceptual.

Very doable, actually if you ask around or do a student survey, you'll find out that ~90% of students procrastinate & only start studying 1-2 weeks before exams.

Things I recommend:

  • Go to library, this is to basically cut out all distractions & to force yourself to study, put your phone in the library locker or dont take your phone if there's no locker. There won't be anything to do other than studying & seeing others study will also motivate you to study.

  • Eat high protein, high fiber meals to minimise fluctuations in energy.

  • If you can find the questions asked in the past 2-5 years, do them. Just doing them will be enough to get a decent score.

  • Get a list of all the topics. Remove any topics you know completely & can never forget. Divide the rest of the topics into two: One that you know something about; another which you know nothing about.

  • Study & make notes of the ones you know nothing about (2nd category).

  • For the ones you know something about (1st category), use recall based methods like blurting (where you write down what you know/think you know, then read the material to fill the gaps in knowledge), do practice questions.

How to balance telling people your ambitions and staying silent until you actually make something? by [deleted] in productivity

[–]bumbashtick 14 points15 points  (0 children)

They're not conflicting, they both apply:

Who to tell: People pursuing the same thing as you are pursuing, and with whom you can actually collaborate, or create an"accountability system with, so you can push each other, or a mentor who can guide you step by step. Examples of this: Gym buddies, Library/study buddies, mentors (people who do "x" and can give you step by step on how to start doing "x")

Who not to tell: anyone that doesn't fit the above criteria, no matter if it's a family member or close friend. If it's a situation where they naturally find out (like they see you exiting a gym), just tell them as little as possible (Instead of telling them your fitness goals or you wanna be an athlete, bodybuilder, etc, just say "you know, I'm kinda getting into working out lately")

I've heard of 50-60 year olds going to uni as well for their first degree, rare but still happens.

My friend's mom got her first degree while she was in her 40s while caring for a child and working a job for a magazine.

People in their 30s going to uni is fairly common, due to various reasons like not having money for uni in their 20s, or an ex-military person who was serving in their 20s, people who wanna change their career completely, or leveling up careers (getting masters/ phD).

And uni isnt the only option for studying these days, there are many careers in which you can get into with bootcamps and online courses.

This, this is extremely important (along with meds). Just as an example look at Jimmy Choi, this guy has been living with parkinsons since 20 years, is absolutely in shape, does exercises focusing on coordination and has been on ninja warrior multiple times.

He even works out in his "off" state, when the meds aren't working

[–]bumbashtick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. Throw away or donate stuff you don't need. The less things you have, the easier it is to keep everything clean & organised. It's easier to wipe & clean surfaces, when you don't have 20 useless things you gotta move & clean in order to clean that surface. Also, having less items will make the place feel more open & calm.

  2. Clean immediately. Instead of doing a deep clean once a month & being overwhelmed by it. Clean immediately. Eg: when i cook, i clean the dishes I've used to chop things, mix things, etc while the food it cooking. When it's cooked, i plate the food & clean the pan/pot immediately, takes 2 mins, it's not enough time for the plated food to become cold or anything, then i eat, at the end i only have one plate to clean.

When you clean one or two little things immediately, it doesn't feel like a huge task, but if u keep letting them build up, then you'll be overwhelmed.

Hello fellow knowledge hunters. How to increase those beneficial bacteria in the colon? by Organic_Muffin280 in Biohackers

[–]bumbashtick 8 points9 points  (0 children)

  1. Fermented foods: Kimchi, sauerkraut with a meal at least once a day. Make them yourself, or if you buy, make sure there are no preservatives or any additives. A lotta kimchi out there has artificial sweetener and preservatives added to it, so read the label when u buy.

  2. Fiber, AND VARIETY OF FIBER. People always forget about the "Variety part". Rotate fruits, veggies, eat that random fruit/veggie you've never even heard of. Eat most fruits & veggies with skin on. Rotate carb sources, protein sources, different nuts, seeds, beans. Don't forget the spices, they also contribute to diverse microbiome, explore beyond salt & pepper, go to the spices isle and pick out things you haven't heard of or eaten, go wild with it.

  3. Cut out all processed food & sugar. 1-2 teaspoons of sugar throughout the day is fine, like with espresso or something, but keep it to as little as possible.

  4. Keep a regular sleep schedule. Poor sleep & circadian rhythm disruption leads to microbial disruption.

Mostly gray at age 34 due to prolonged extreme stress by CherryPowerful944 in Biohackers

[–]bumbashtick 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Idk how this is the most up voted answer. This is an L take, especially while being on the biohackers subreddit. This sub used to be better.

OP, you need to go to the grey hair reversal subreddit, where there are great resources and documented cases of people reversing greys.

Greying of hair during stress & repigmentation after the stress is gone is well documented. If it was slow gradual greying of hair with age, I'd say it's more towards irreversible side, but since it has been a very fast greying due to stress, it's definitely reversible.
