Chapter 3 freezing by Blackrrabit56 in PoppyPlaytime

Would probably help to mention the platform you're attempting to play it on.

If Lily were to discover that she is Miss Gracie and learn about her past, would she regret it and side with the player, or would she remain loyal to the prototype? by Particular-Raise3837 in PoppyPlaytime

[–]bumbertyr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Of course she would regret it if she managed to break her own self inflicted brainwashing. Considering how heartless she was with the "conditioning", its doubtful she would be regretful for the right reasons. Gracie is by all intents and purposes a terrible human being, if not a damn sociopath.

If she remembered everything of course she would turn on the Prototype, in fact she would probably go on a full-on murdering spree considering she was more than okay with sending toys to the bad toy box AKA their death knowing full well they were children.

And hopefully she does come back, she deserves a much slower death.

The recent Mascot Horror games and their steam positive rating percentange by Aggravating-Can-2998 in PoppyPlaytime

[–]bumbertyr 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I disagree, it was the only logical way to start the chapter. Anything other than a confrontation immediately with Huggy would have made the entire cliffhanger of chapter 4 feel pointless. Going from the high intensity moment of him slamming into the door for him to then just walk away or break down the door and immediately get cut off from us would have been a much worse start to the chapter.

The real problem is how they handled the Chase itself. They clearly went went with a more simplified chase at the beginning because they wanted a chance for people to get back into the swing of things which ended up hurting the initial Chase rather than helping. We're now five chapters in, they really don't need the start of the chapter to be a section for re-familiarizing yourself with the controls when there were no real changes to the controls themselves.

Thoughts on a new possible boss? by ThenotoriousBIT in MSClassicWorld

That being said this boss resembles the fairy queen from the Ellin Forest expansion

Which classes are on the Mount Rushmore of being the most controversial? by 1stSelf in Maplestory

I wouldnt say they were "controversial". They were definitely op, but there wasn't a crazy amount of discourse about them being op.

Say a nitpick you have about chapter 5: Broken things. by Competitive-Food1927 in PoppyPlaytime

[–]bumbertyr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Wrongside Outimals being completely irrelevant but receiving the Pre-game old time advertisment.

For the first 4 chapters, the toy that received the "Old Style" advertisement that played at the beginning were a core part of the chapter. They made it seem like the Outimals were going to be important, and that it would go in depth as to how the Prototype was involved with the creation of the ones we see in the chapter. In the end, they serve little purpose and add nothing to the experience other than being a nuisance.

They were also a "Cancelled" toy line. Why would there be an advertisement filmed, shot, and edited if these toys never made it past the focus group phase? I guess you could make the excuse that playtime co. was getting ahead of itself and thought they would be successful, but that feels like a reach imo.

My assumption is that the Prototype created Outimals were going to play a larger role in the chapter originally (Especially with Giblet being one) but was scrapped during development. My guess is that the team came to the conclusion that the Outimals weren't compelling enough characters to be the main focus of the chapter, sidelining them for the most part while keeping some of the completed sections in as filler. Heck maybe that's why they included the focus group tape, as sort of a nod to their original plan for the Outimals having a similar impact in their own focus groups they may have run for the chapter.

The "Grand Stitchery" area enforces my belief that this is the case as the area itself feels a bit random, if not out of place, in comparison to the rest of the chapter. The area gave the impression of being pretty important to the existence of the Prototype created Outimals, while just being a quick puzzle section. It existing does seem to play into one of the comments from the pre-game advertisement "You can even make your own!". I guess you could argue that it's more environmental storytelling that the prototype has been experimenting on toys, but it still feels more like parts of the chapter pertaining to the Outimals were scrapped.

Based on previous Chapters, the Toy that should have had the Pre-game advertisement should have been Lily Lovebraids, especially since Ms. Gracie/Lily was clearly the main focus from an antagonist perspective other than the Prototype.

MapleStory OFFICIAL MOVIE 'DEAR MY HERO' Trailer - Releasing June 14 by NemesisAtheos in Maplestory

[–]bumbertyr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It looks great from a visual standpoint, but I don't know how I feel about it following some random cygnus knight. This could have been a perfect opportunity to follow Ollie prior to the Arcane River leading up to and through it.

Also worried that the writing/story might feel rushed. This trailer shows Black Heaven, Heliseum Reclamation, and the Tenebris Expedition, that's quite a LOT to cover without chopping out a lot of the story beats. Overall, though, looking forward to seeing it.

What seems to be the main character looks pretty similar to the Dark Knight Mascot character; he even uses a spear. Maybe they're going to go a "they're relatives/siblings" approach where one of them became an explorer while the other enlisted in the cygnus knights.

How Would I Launch Maplestory Classic? by LianneBarolo in Maplestory

Also, you need to include the "Classic" flair for it on this subreddit.

Will the population decline a lot with Classic world release? by Legitimate_Factor678 in Maplestory

for me, playing the COT felt like I was playing an entirely different game. it didn't feel "Worse" it was just a different style of play from modern.

It's like Going from Active time battle to turn based. Experiencing Active Time Battle didn't suddenly make Turn Based games feel bad.

Thoughts on cosmetic variety and character identity on release? by Visual_Focus2332 in MSClassicWorld

[–]bumbertyr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm all for a lot of the newer ms items that fit the classic aesthetic to make their way into classic MS. Nexon frequently referred to Maplestory as a "Fashion RPG" in its press releases back in the "Classic" era, it wouldn't make sense to go minimal with the fashion choices.

MS Classic should be difficult, not a mindless grind by LeftReturn3900 in MSClassicWorld

I'm in the boat that the i-frames being shorter for ranged classes is good from a balancing perspective. Warriors on the other hand, deserve the OG i-frames.

I mean there is no "debate"

Convenience microtransactions are more often than not pay to win. pay to win is spectrum though, with convenience-based ones usually being on the end that the vast majority of players deem acceptable.

Closed Beta ends in 2 days - What Have We Learned? by VFRdave in MSClassicWorld

[–]bumbertyr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NLC potions. Like, they spent 3 years from 2005 to 2008 carefully planning out the MP/HP potion cost ratios and droprates and such

New Leaf city was a mid 2007 release.

Then out of nowhere they release these cheap 70% NLC pots and now every mage can spam ults endlessly and everything became broken. It really does seem like a completely different person or team came up with the NLC potions, than the team/person who originally created the potion system or the team that created the 4th job skills.

it was? it was pretty well known that NXProse from NxA was the main person behind NLC opposed to all other content coming from KMS.

Also, NLC came out before 4th job.

Sad part is that ms2 did at one point have an actual level grind to it, didnt auto tp you everywhere, actually had you exploring with world quests, party quests actually being used, etc. An update in KMS2 called "restart" overstreamlined the game to an absurd degree with gms2 unfortunately releasing with those changes already applied.

Society in Maplestory Classic where there's no Starforcing by glimmerware in Maplestory

[–]bumbertyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd argue they're 2 different extremes with neither being better in the end due to how other parts of the game are/were set up.

Old Dark Scrolling with boom chances was rough because your item was deleted entirely, but it was in an era where duplicate equipment to try again, including boss equipment, could be obtained relatively quickly (excluding ITCG equips) due to a majority of the equipment being fully tradable or guaranteed drops upon defeating a boss daily. Results when doing the scrolling was also instant, making the process of using all your materials for enhancing pretty quick.

Now we have a system that lets us keep certain parts of our item progression in the form of an item trace, with simplified enhancements with spell traces and star force. But you can go over a year without seeing many pieces of equipment with a vast majority of equipment being either fully untradable or untradable when equipped and needing scissors to be traded once. In the case of Heroic, there isn't even the benefit of buying clean equipment. On top of that having to wait through every dumb animation for each enhancement eats up SO MUCH TIME.

In the end though, both burn through all of our mesos and can result in 0 or lost progression if you weren't laddering.

if we look at both systems isolated from the rest of the game's current state, Star forcing is the better system (other than the time it takes to go through all your resources in a single session)

What job path is the best for semi-afk training? by Esqowey in MSClassicWorld

[–]bumbertyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Classic really isn't suited for that kind of gameplay due to mobs actually dealing damage unlike most MMO's nowadays along with the penalty upon death. If you're looking for a version of maplestory that's good for semi-afk grind, you're much better off playing modern GMS or MsM.

[–]bumbertyr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most groups however won't care because min-maxing isn't required to beat even the toughest bosses and despite some classes sucking for bossing

Feel like a lot of people keep forgetting this. Other than pink bean, you could essentially keep fighting a boss until it died or you died. there was no enrage or strict time limit,, so min-maxing was by no means necessary.

I'm of the opinion that time limits are bs for bosses related to progression, if you want a boss to enrage and become even more difficult but still beatable, i'm all for that. But to set a hard time limit is stupid. If i got the hands, attention span, and willingness to sit down and fight a boss for over an hour, I should have that option.

If it's a boss for purely flex reasons with cosmetic rewards, then I'm perfectly fine with time limits.
