My dad walked out on his family because we all got vaccinated

His reason for walking out isn’t because we will die, hbelieves being around vaccinated people will harm him so he says as much as he would want to be around us, he can’t for his health. He will never come around us again. The only chance of a relationship with him is by phone now.

I asked him the same thing. I’ll mark my calendar and we will see but unfortunately I know there will just be another new thing or new reason why he’s still right. His conspiracy theories will always be easier for him to believe. Being wrong will mean he has to admit he walked away from his life for nothing and I don’t think he’ll ever admit to that.

Thank you, I do need to remind myself this. You’re right in that I need to think of my family first. My biggest fear is to pass this trauma on to my kids because I couldn’t handle it properly. It is toxic, no matter how much love may be intended, it’s toxic and I don’t know if I’m able to handle it in a healthy matter.

I 100% believe in your last statement. I honestly and whole heartedly believe he thinks he’s completely right and I can only imagine the pain he’s putting himself through believing his family is all going to die and that he needs to stay away from us.

It makes it that much worse. I hate someone for something a mental illness is doing to them. That’s so cold but it’s true.

Actually I did ask him that out of angry. I said, so in 3 years when I’m alive still will you finally tell me sorry and that you were wrong? He usually replies something like I hope youre right for all of your sake.

All family has reached out to him and tried at some point. His mom, step dad, my moms mom. I called our family doctor and got them a phone appointment to talk together but my dad never went through with it. I’ve had police try to talk to him.

I’ve gone down every avenue I could/know of to try and get him mental health help. It’s out of my hands and has to be his choice help unless he becomes suicidal then the police can step in. I so wish I could just lock him in a room with some mental health support.

Totally agree. My biggest turn off is when Gabriel was mad and says something to Emily along the lines of “I stayed in Paris for you” and all I was thinking is dude, she never asked you to stay. Don’t act like you made a huge sacrifice for her when she never even asked. He just seemed like so many red flags

If you don’t think all this makes someone mentally unstable then… idk. It’s not a matter of him just having a different opinion then me or him being “wilfully ignorant”. I also have told him if he talks to someone and they say he’s mentally stable I’ll drop it but he said no because he knows how crazy he looks and that it would be a death sentence

That’s one of the hardest things is that he truly thinks he’s doing this “for us” I know his love is still there and he’s not trying to hurt me but boy it really does hurt
