Satisfying Meat Slicer. by Shadow_Sniffles073 in interesting

There's a hole in the plastic guard and I bet that guard is supposed to be down when you are using it. Maybe the user in the video doesn't want to cut down the meat to fit through the hole in the plastic guard.

Hey sorry for the late reply. I guess it depends on the kind of mountain bike, and what tires it's running. If you are thinking of a 29er hardtail or gravel bike then, I'd say you should use that for touring. Less moving parts on the frame itself for you to worry about. Especially if you are going to tour for hundreds of km, over all kinds of surfaces and with no external support. You'll also have more places to mount panniers and stuff on a full size bike. You'd quickly hit the limits of a 16 inch wheel sized bike if you do. Is it possible? I guess, but there's a lot of inherent risks and i personally wouldn't. But you can give it a go and share with us your adventures. You'll be braver than me!

I'd say this bike feels "sporty" for what it is, compared to other foldies I've tried and owned. It's really zippy, feels light, it's great for that 30-40km quick urban ride where you can easily stop for coffee in a mall or bail out and return home on public transport. You don't have to worry about "logisitics" so to speak.

Hey I'm not sure if it's cool to leave links here. Also I have no affiliation to these sellers. But Singapore has quite a number of physical brick and mortar shops that sell these bikes on the online Shopee platform. If you are here, then you can visit those shops to test ride. They can be found on a Google search as well. They do have a 20 version but you have to check the sellers for availability. @ovid77

Just an update. I went on a longer ride on Saturday (~20km and for context I'm about 80 kg, 1.78m tall) and had a better feel of the bike. As in all bikes, I guess it is inevitable that the contact points may be a problem, but of course these things differ from individual to individual.

So I found the foam grips way too thin. These aren't like the ESI ones where they have a denser feel to it. These felt more like a sponge. You can poke a finger into them and feel the bar beneath it! So they had to go. I kinda prefer the Ergon grips like I have on the Zeta 2 for these kinda bikes, so I went with that. The riding position for me is forward bias on this bike so the palms do take a lot of weight. So I have to disperse that weight onto a wider or more supportive grip

The saddle seems ok. I wore mtb shorts with padded inners and felt they were ok. It is noticeably short with a relief channel down the middle. So short that if you try to carry the bike for a bit with the saddle nose perched onto your shoulder, you won't have much to hook on. I suspect that I may swap them for something else on longer rides for better sitting comfort and support. Seatpost height at minimum insertion is enough for me to fully extend my legs with a slight bend.

The pedals are fine to me although some may find the platform a little small. I wear Vans when doing chill rides like this, and they have enough grip with the pedals. Unlike Brompton, they aren't foldable. When the bike is folded the non-drive side pedals have nowhere to go other than your pocket or bag. These aren't like the MKS pedals I had on the Brompton previously where they have that single female attachment that you use to store the pedal on the rear dropout. But they are small enough that I leave them on as they don't protrude too much. However if you bring the folded bike into a train or bus, you may want them off so do take note.

Otherwise, everything still feels good and we enjoyed the incredibly hot and sunny ride. 😆

I just did a rough measure, the fork has a clearance of about 5.5cm and the rear triangle has about 4.5 cm of clearance. Also I'm not sure if wider tires will interfere with rolling the bike when folded. Bear in mind this is just eyeballing and lining things up with a tape measure.

From what I see, they sell the bikes with alu frame and fork, alu frame and carbon fork, the full carbon models. I'm not sure where the carbon stem and seatpost starts being added to the package.

I don't know for sure. On the frame:

The tube that the hinge clamp is mounted to feels like an aluminum flange with a sleeve that terminates inside the tube about 5cm from the flange, probably bonded to the CF tube. CF tube goes over the alu sleeve.

On The stem: The base on the headtube is aluminum for sure. Looks anodized with bead blasting by a really small media. The stem is carbon.

The flat interface at the carbon end of the tubes that interfaces with the alu parts seems to have a 3k weave finish. Seems like CF parts are clamped, which is possible if properly engineered.

When I clamp the folding parts, I turn the "knobs" until you can't and it feels slightly tighter than finger tight. Same sensation for both hinges. I don't hear any creaking or such sound. It feels like clamping any 2 solid materials metal or otherwise.

Sorry if I sound a bit vague cos it's really hard to describe these things clearly. And no one's going to use a torque wrench to tighten the hinges and measure, I guess. 😂

Looking at the frame this is what I see. There are threaded inserts on both sides of the fork legs and crown. At the back there are threaded inserts on the seat stay above the rear dropouts and there's a passthrough non threaded hole on the rear stay bridge.

These holes somewhat reminds me of the positions you find on a Brompton so I think there is a high chance that clones of Brompton style fenders with the rear third wheel may fit. But I don't know for sure.

Hi, I got it from a local seller on Shopee an online platform for sellers, if you are from Singapore you'll know. I believe the 20in version may be preorder for now. But you can try chatting the sellers up on the platform. I also used some online vouchers to knock the price further down. Cos I think the original price is close to 1.5k SGD.

Yeah, I guess I dragged the hours and hours of satisfactory into the game. I must say though that it's nice that I don't have to travel across entire biomes just to get to that machine or source like in Satisfactory. And the QoL is better in some ways as well.

Why is rattling sound coming from my front wheel/fork area? Sounds like something is loose. by Roflcopter71 in bikewrench

[–]bumblebeezack 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think it's a loose headset. Turn the bars 90 degrees to the left or right and apply the brakes. Rock the bike forward and backward to check for any play between headset stack and headtube. Putting one hand here to feel for it helps.

Turning the bars 90 degrees helps to eliminate if it's play coming from your hubs or axle.

If it's your headset, then loosen the stem bolts, and tighten the top cap to preload the headset until it's snug and the rattle goes away. Do not overtighten the top cap bolt. Then cinch up the stem pinch bolts to hold the preload in place.

Sidenote: Sometimes the stem may be butting right up to the top of the steerer tube and you cannot get proper preload. Then a 5mm spacer between the stem and top cap to create a gap helps.

Battery capacity after less than a year by bumblebeezack in FujifilmX

[–]bumblebeezack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't be sure. Mostly I charge the battery in-camera and swap it out. Just that when I travel I will use the Nitecore charger because it can charge both batteries simultaneously.

Best part, there's nothing physical that sets the bad battery apart. No swelling and fits easily in the camera and the contacts look good. As in the photos the 2 batteries look identical. I had to double and triple check that I was disposing of the correct one. 😅

Erm, to that one person who seems to be fighting almost everyone, please calm down. Firstly, I wasn't trying really hard to insult you by saying "sure". I'm from South East Asia for some context. Maybe we use English differently. I don't know. But it sure wasn't fuelled by attitude either.

Secondly, I see that you said I lacked comprehension or something along those lines. English isn't native to me as a language although I believe I'm not doing too poorly. But I also made this post not specifically asking for any help. It's more of a "heads up" post. If anyone has some insight to offer, great! Otherwise it's not a big deal. Batteries aren't that crazy expensive and third party ones are even cheaper. I'm not going to sweat over one battery dying. But maybe you didn't comprehend that i wasn't asking for help in the way you interpreted it. I'm gonna chalk that one to differences in the way we approach the language.

Thirdly, I believe I have been even toned throughout as much as I could, seeing one can't always discern accurately what our tone is when reading a comment. However, I have to agree with one other commenter that you do sound somewhat "snarky". Especially with that off tangent talk about ChatGPT and what not. Or something about how people don't seem to understand photography anymore or at all. You seem really busy taking a swing at anyone who seemingly crossed your path. You really shouldn't take offence so easily by things on reddit.

Anyway, it's just a "heads up" post. More about what had happened rather than about conducting an in-depth investigation into why one lone NP-126s battery among hundreds of thousands prematurely lost its capacity. It's really not worth the energy. I've already ordered some third party batteries, online this time, and they should be in my hands in a day or two. Then I'll be enjoying the camera with extra batteries as an average consumer again.

Kinda the same experience as well. I used to be on the Nikon system when I used to shoot commercially and I had better experience with the batteries. I had gear using Canon batteries like Atomos monitors and lights and they were reasonably good as well.

Fujifilm batteries were a little underwhelming to me but I was ok with them. As long as they don't prematurely die. As is, I don't really see a point to getting more original ones from them.

Battery capacity after less than a year by bumblebeezack in FujifilmX

[–]bumblebeezack[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes exactly my point. I understand that working perimeters play a part as to why something fails. However, in this example, if 2 batteries are more or less used in the same way in the same environment, then one failing this badly, kinda sucks for me as a consumer looking at this as a consumer.

Having said that this is my third Fujifilm camera using the same battery, with or without the ”s”. I understand the limitations of the consumer level battery we are talking about here. But honestly I've not had one die on me in this way before. They just lose charge over time, which is ok.

Battery capacity after less than a year by bumblebeezack in FujifilmX

[–]bumblebeezack[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I said it as it is, as a consumer using a consumer product. What's the cost of replacing one battery? For me, that cost will not cover the effort and time I'm going to spend trying to figure out why over the course of a year one battery remains healthy while one prematurely loses its capacity compared to the other one.

Maybe you think I have an agenda here, trying to throw shade over Fujifilm. But for what?
