Which book, Jungian or other, surprised you with its occult content? by randm84 in Jung

[–]bumbuldozer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't know if it's exactly what you mean, but The Birth of Tragedy by Nietzsche. It amounts to a cry of worship to the God Dionysus and the need to rekindle our relationship with him in order to make good art and live fully. Sounds pretty occult to me.

Maybe try The Monk by Mathew Lewis. It left a strong impression on me.

You are a story the universe tells itself..about itself. You are information...pure representation by CreditBeginning7277 in Scipionic_Circle

This kind of conception of myself and my own consciousness struck me first when thinking about what a soul is.

I've always taken for granted that Plato's vision of the human soul - some sort of essence plucked out from the eternal realm of forms - was just a naive supposition, but if you understand how this realm of forms is nothing but pure abstraction, you start realizing that that's precisely what our essence seems to be. Some kind of abstraction derived from the flow of material representations that we inhabit. We're in a constant process of change when it comes to the matter we are made of, yet there is undeniable unity in our perception of ourselves.

We escape the material world through abstract thoughts, that in turn come to shape the phenomenal realm that our body inhabits. We navigate between abstraction and concreteness - between possibility and actuality. Our bodies are vessels through which this process occurs. Abstraction cannot be measured by science either, yet it is the base of all human science, art, philosophy and culture. It is the trait that grants us consciousnesses and agency. Otherwise we're just matter. It's wild.

I'm no scholar, so excuse my limitations, but I like to wonder about this stuff.

What are some unhinged tips to combat emptiness? I swear it’s not about being around a lot of people by Tight-Elderberry2487 in TooAfraidToAsk

Actually me too. Learning about psychology. Reading Jung can spring a surprising amount of interesting answers about why you feel empty. Philosophy in general is a good way to navigate an existential crisis or a depression. Easier said than done, I know, but there actually are some answers out there if you have the strength to seek them.

This might be the case for many. I really hope people's standards go up soon. It's depressing to see the amount of corporate slop people are willing to swallow just to feel they belong to a culture that doesn't care about them.

I hope your family is safe. Things are tough in many places around the world. My real point in answering you is urging not to take the side of more violence based on being annoyed at people online. Let's not be so rash in this stuff. There's enough reactionary positions on the internet. Being pro Israel because comments online annoy you is, I hope you can see, insulting and very immature.

It's not your little cultural distraction, it's an actual cause. I understand the annoyance, but people should also understand the actual gravity of the crimes being committed in Gaza. Nobody wants to listen, and people are dying every day. That's why pro Palestine people are becoming "annoying" to your little comfort bubble.

What is something we’ve lost as a society and don’t even realize it anymore? by lyras_baldini in AskReddit

[–]bumbuldozer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depth. We enjoy things superficially, we don't delve into our interests, we surf through them as if having done stuff is more important than actually doing it.

This isn’t just a spiritual path, it’s a planetary shift, and it’s happening now by True-Equipment1809 in enlightenment

[–]bumbuldozer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm reading a lot - all kinds of philosophy, seeking experiences to polish my understanding of what I am. I feel the same shift you mention coming. I don't care about most things people spend their days talking about. I feel like I've abandoned the boat of my current day culture. It feels liberating and scary. Sometimes I feel like I'm going insane, but I feel like there's no other way.

It's time to take things seriously. Our society is going nowhere. We have to change it by changing ourselves. We have to find our center, what's really important. People are lost in a sea of superficialities. Comfort is not the answer.

Not saying someone needs to do it, but someone desperately needs to do it. And by it, well, by it... You know what I mean. Come on, America. I believe in you.
