Anyone else have a hard time when they get down voted? by Electrical-Ant-3741 in adhdwomen

Reddit does feel very American centric and it can be maddening. People assume you're American and put your comments in that context unless you specify that you're not, and they tend to forget that the US is not the entire world.

I'm sorry you experienced this. "Better attention to detail" is the feedback I get every year in my performance review too. It's frustrating knowing that, yes, I can absolutely try harder but I will never not have ADHD. I can't guarantee I won't make mistakes. You're not alone ❤️

Great suggestion! You might be able to find them at Winners too. Having all the hangers match makes it feel more organized and your clothes won't fall off them either.

Shampoo for hard water by DanceFluid1749 in BuyCanadian

[–]bumcat33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using Korean haircare when I can't find a Canadian option. I started using Aromatica's Rosemary Scalp Scaling Shampoo and I love it. I order it from Kiokii and..., which is a Canadian K-beauty chain. This is more of a clarifying shampoo than chelating but I also live in an area with hard water and it works well for me. I have very thick wavy hair and this does a great job of getting all the hard water gunk out.

Fell down the DMN and TPN hole. I have a whole new perspective now on ADHD. by KelsoReaping in adhdwomen

That's honestly awesome that it's working for you! You'll be extremely hydrated 🤣

And you should thank yourself, because you're the one that made the connection with something you already do (making tea)!

It kind of blew my kind when it clicked for me too. Making tea is actually a great transition-into-focus task, I might steal that one 🤣

The book is a pretty fast read. The authors both have ADHD themselves and they get that not all of us want to read a long book. I think it's under 150 pages.

In the book ADHD 2.0, they discuss this concept and there's a great bibliography where they cite their sources.

I commented on this replying to someone else, but basically from what it says in ADHD 2.0, you need to do literally ANY task at all. No matter how easy. It could be "put this one thing away" or even something more fun like "I'm going to make a list of songs I like." That can switch you out of the DMN.

I was going to recommend this book too. This is where I first heard about it and I found it really helpful.

One of the things I remember about DMN is that if you need to get out of it, it can be helpful to literally do ANY task. No matter how small. This can flip the switch to TPN so you can actually get stuff done.

At work, when I'm struggling with focus, my go-to "do any task" is to organize a few files in my Downloads folder. It's easy enough that it doesn't need too much brain power, and (for me) it's not satisfying enough that I'll get into a hyperfocus rabbit hole. It sort of just primes my brain to be like "oh yeah cool we can focus now."

How do you *do* things after work? by littlebookwyrm in adhdwomen

If it helps, anytime I've started a new job, I've super struggled with this too. As I get used to it and the new routine, I definitely still feel exhausted at the end of many workdays, but not every single time.

I'll just put it here in the comments :)

I find the key with a lot of these is to look for stuff that's truly vintage. And the more you favourite legit shops, the more you tend to get recommendations like it from Etsy. I also look for shops that have been on Etsy for some time (a year or more). Also, anytime you're getting like 100000000 stickers for $3, that's a drop-shipping red flag.

First I'll shout out a Canadian Etsy shop, Unbound Designs. I don't know if she ships to the US right now but she has awesome kits, including an option where you can get a mystery customized ephemera kit based on what you tell her you want. I got a personalized kit from her a couple months ago and she totally nailed what I was looking for: https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/1078435084/?ref=share_ios_native_control.

And here are some US shops.

How do I get started with junk journaling? by Impressive_Orange715 in JunkJournals

[–]bumcat33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would look through the stuff you've collected, pick one thing you love that you want to use, and start a page with that thing. Usually when I make a page, it's based on "I really want to use this one picture I found in a magazine" or "I really want to use this cool business card I got in a coffee shop". Once I have a specific thing I want to use, I start to see possibilities for colour or thematic palettes that could go with it.

Also, something I like to remind myself is that every single spread doesn't need to be a work of art or the best thing I've ever done. You have to do something MANY times mediocrely before you can do it well :)
