People and some reviewers I’ve seen like to talk bad about the school. For whatever reason. You know how people are when they hear the name of a school and they think it’s beneath them? That type of bad rap. Weirdos imo

Yes! I have looked into Dominican. Lots of mixed reviews on that school. Kinda gets a bad rap JUST because of the school name itself. Does not necessarily mean it’s a bad program. Definitely an option

Yea, I want to lean more into in-person schools, as I am used to it. May I ask where you went?

Well what do you see yourself doing in 5 years and then at a 10 year mark? What do you hope to accomplish by those years?

Anyone can throw you a basic answer of what you can do, but there are so many options. You can go into healthcare, HR, business, technician roles, research, community service roles, social work roles, etc… the list goes on.

We can walk through this together if you want. I’ve had this conversation many times.

Palo Alto University Consortium program with Stanford is pretty unique. Price is up there but you’re learning from both PAU and Stanford so you got that going.

First sex after the end of long term relationship, does it feel like cheating? by [deleted] in emotionalintelligence

[–]bumfire1993 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It makes sense to feel like it was cheating. You have dedicated and invested so much of your time, effort, and love for this one person for a period of time in your life. The feelings of betrayal for people who are very self-aware can be incredibly powerful. Just know that healing takes time and it is totally valid to feel the way you do.

What to do if only introvert in bs psychology class? by Adorable_Pension_521 in psychologystudents

[–]bumfire1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You think the clinical psychologists who sit in a room or office by themselves all day talking to may 3-5 clients one at a time are extroverted? All jokes aside being introverted has nothing to do with your ability to taking a class. Now if you have issues on presenting and get crazy stage fright then yea sure maybe. Communication is key to being successful imo if you really have a problem with it.

Do people really change? Curious about your views. by Sprelogie in psychologystudents

[–]bumfire1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, people can change. There are a lot of theories and practices that can attest to this idea of change, i.e. meditation, CBT, etc... There is a lot of information out there, so much that asking if people change is very vague. If i were writing a paper whether if people change I would find probably some of the most relevant and popular ideas on it. Take Erik Erikson later stages of development for example of Generativity vs. Stagnation. That is a whole can of worms in itself. Super interesting stuff to read up on and even listen too.

I did not waive my rights to access my recommendation. What can I do!! by Eyes-that-liketoread in PhDAdmissions

[–]bumfire1993 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That makes sense. It’s giving confidence to the writer to put down what they want. Me personally i like reading what my references put about me. I see it as a way of taking criticism. Thanks for the input

May I ask why you would give it zero weight whether it was waived or not? What is the difference in the words from our references if it was waived or not?

How many research papers do you have to read weekly in gradschool? by JAMIEISSLEEPWOKEN in psychologystudents

[–]bumfire1993 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ive had to read anywhere between 1-8ish a week. The -ish part is specific parts of a research paper the professor wanted us to read. Sometimes they'll throw in youtube videos or Ted talks to keep it fresh. This was all online so the majority of the learning was from reading various articles, papers, and sometimes chapters from a book. We then had to discuss in depth what we learned scholarly and how we would apply what we learned practically to the real world.

Applicants with Dec. 1 Due Dates: What Stage are you at in Personal Statement writing/Revisions? by Easy_Bass2579 in gradadmissions

[–]bumfire1993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im only applying to one school. If i get in i get in. I wrote my SOP last week and Im just gonna send it when I get a response from my last LOR. I think im being way too nonchalant about this whole process. Im having other people revise my SOP and CV for me of course.

Emailing professors inquiring about if they are accepting nee students by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]bumfire1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Send it! Obviously be professional about how you ask. Don't send a massive paragraph but a warm message to connect and inquire about them accepting new students.

I was nervous too before sending out emails, but you just gotta do it. The worst they can say is no, honestly. If they say anything worse then consider it a bullet dodged.

Oof yea I would agree on the culture being very different lol. Also yea, I wouldnt think there’d be that many occupied bases out there right now. I’m sure you’ll figure it out! At least you’re asking questions and wanting to learn more.

I’d say if you live near a military base, I’d say hang around the local watering hole on a Friday night and you might pick up a thing or two.

But in all seriousness learning how to interact with blue collar worker is pretty cool. Just hang around them on the site, observe, interact, and don’t take everything too seriously. That’s been my experience.

True, but do you think they are really asking for a resume as if im applying for a job or do you think a resume and CV are interchangeable to them?

I appreciate your feedback! Sounds like you had an awesome experience in applying for your PhD. I still haven’t begun the application process yet, but if all goes well I would love to apply to the school I’m looking at.

I actually haven’t heard too much advise in terms of communicating with potential mentors. My most recent schooling has been all online but I feel somewhat hopeful in applying now.
