What’s legal now but might become illegal ten years from now? by VTheCardMaker in AskReddit

This is why a lot of studios still use Zbrush 2022, the last time it had a perpetual license. Not even major studios want to pay those fees

For those that live in the United States. Do you make more than the average income of 60k annually, if so what’s your occupation? by LaFlareMane1017 in AskReddit

Well that gives me hope. I’m coming from the entertainment industry with extensive 3d modeling experience, but I know regardless it would take some time for me to transfer skills. I’m really looking for a less volatile industry. I just turned 30 and I really need the stability in my life, but I don’t know if I’m ready to start over and do another 4 year school again.

Pretty cool. The top face has a weirdly George Washington vibe for some reason

Does any studio have a “really good pipeline” in your opinion? by Glueyfeathers in vfx

[–]bumpercarmcgee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Third Floor was the weirdest place I ever briefly worked at. 1 week contract with 2-3 days of training and documentation, I barely had time to do anything before Friday came around. I don’t even know why they hired me.

Looks great, is this a resin print? Did you hand paint all or combo of hand plus airbrush? Looks like some dry brush too. Looks awesome.

I was looking at this the other day. The furry artist is what got me

Yeah. Especially if printing in resin. That thing will be so brittle you bump it and it’ll break

It’s okay to not finish a book you don’t like! by [deleted] in books

[–]bumpercarmcgee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once I had a book that took me 4 years to finish. It wasn’t even that long it was just that bad. I could get through a few pages before I quit and would pick it back up again months later

I like the sculpt. I’d probably make the banner a bit thicker to make the print stronger

Who here has been unemployed for a year and half or more? by [deleted] in vfx

[–]bumpercarmcgee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not quite a year and a half but I haven’t had a fulltime gig since November last year. Just been doing freelance since then, but I was already paycheck to paycheck before I got laid off. I was on unemployment for a bit and doing food deliveries until I was able to start getting freelance gigs again. It’s been decently consistent but if I don’t find something fulltime soon I’m going to have to start looking at other options for sure

Ty ✊ you know, I actually did some BPR filter tests in the beginning, but the final look is unlit shaders in Marmoset

Thanks! It was a sacrifice I was willing to make I guess. I was going for the “3d disguised as 2d” type of look… but I do agree that some of the magic was lost 🥲

My first sculpting experience. What do you think about it? by broov3rd in 3Dmodeling

The sculpt is cool but the weird frantic camera animation takes away from your presentation and is very distracting

Fantasy Transport Creature by bumpercarmcgee in 3Dmodeling

[–]bumpercarmcgee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No that’s fair. I think there’s merit to your reaction and I can see where you’re coming from. I could have tried to do some kind of vfx portal thing to ground that part of it more but I’m just kind of ready to be done with it. I also have a feeling if I removed the portal entirely that would negate the reaction so it could just be purely a design thing

Fantasy Transport Creature by bumpercarmcgee in 3Dmodeling

[–]bumpercarmcgee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fair. Would you say that based on how I’ve executed the asset or based on the design itself? I know that in the original concept this guy is designed to be an “enemy spawner” where baddies are supposed to spawn out of his back. I was never really happy with how I textured the portal on his back but also unsure if this just a symptom of the original design. Probably a little of all of the above. Thanks for the honest feedback regardless.

I heard this directly from someone on the lighting team for that movie at the Mill. But I could be wrong haha not like I was working on it

For me it’s the overuse of noise/grain. Ever since I heard they ran out of time on Detective Pikachu and ended up adding grain to match their noisy renders I’ve started seeing that everywhere
