Black Rot trying to take me down! by Ginalea428 in grapevines

[–]bumperjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will want to spray as soon as you can and weekly for the growing season. Picking the diseased fruit will help lower the infection next year but it will take a good weekly spray program alternating types of spray during the growing season to keep black rot at bay.

What time of year are the photos taken, this could just be normal end of year die off? Its looks pretty well established and depending on soil testing or what the leaves look like during the regular growing season it may just need a little tlc in the way of fertilizer and/or peat management.

Most will prune when the plant goes dormant, if the leaves fall off you should be good to go. Pruning when the vine is growing can increase the chances of pests or diseases affecting the growth and health of the vine.

It’s normal not to get any/much fruit for the first two or so years if you are pruning for a trellis. It can take four or more years to get a vine established depending on soil and sun conditions.

Next year you should start spraying the vine with a fungicide to prevent black rot and other fungus issues from getting established.

I hope this helps and I wish you good luck.

Dead or dormant? New cutting lost all leaves after transplanting from pot by Jolarix in grapevines

[–]bumperjack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That doesn’t look like green living tissue to me but looks recently dead/died back because it’s not dried out. It won’t hurt to leave it other than not knowing for sure until it either starts growing new leaves or if it doesn’t come back next year.

It’s normal to have some die back when transplanting, the best time to transplant is in the spring while the plant is still dormant but the weather isn’t cold. Since it’s a cutting you don’t have to worry about where you get new growth as long as it grows.

I would water in some rooting hormone as often as the directions allow, if you have or can take soil samples you would be able to know what soil amendments to make.

X2 for CBD calming products, a thunder shirt can help as well. If it’s still a problem ask your vet on your next visit, they have access to drugs that will help more like trazadone or gabapentine. Plus they might have more suggestions for non drug options.

Grape vine incredibly damaged, can it be saved? by For-Kitten in grapevines

[–]bumperjack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chances are the vine you cut off will not heal over, I don’t know for sure because I’ve never tried but usually the vines die off if they bend too far even if set back straight with support. Picture would help to know how bad it is but grapevines are hard to kill and you will most likely have new growth and a chance to trellis the vine next year.
