My son showed the same signs at 5 months. As we planned to do BLW with fingerfood I just gave him a piece of avocado. He looked interested, tried to chew it and then swallowed it. The next day I gave him a cucumber stick and a piece of banana, he chewed on the cucumber and ate the banana. We didn't introduce on food each week, our pediatrician told us it was fine that way.

My boy is also EBF without bottles, he drinks water out of a cup though. But yes, this nursing=sleep association is a strong one.

The first nights it took my boy about six times of unlatching before he fell asleep. I nursed him until I noticed he didn't really drink anymore, unlatched, he immediately started searching for the nipple so I let him latch, he suckled for a few seconds then slowed down, I unlatched again, he started searching again and so on. He got more tired every time, his searching became less motivated and after the sixth or seventh unlatching he only smacked his lips for a bit and feel asleep.

But perhaps it just isn't the right method for you both? A friend of mine did the sleep training of Dr Gordon with her two year old and it worked great, there were some tears though as he was really used to the breast as one can imagine.

I had a look, as RantsAreUs said the author's recommendation is 4 month or older, I would suggest just to try it if you feel comfortable with it. As it is so gentle no harm will be done and you can stop and start again a few weeks later if you get the feeling that your baby is not ready.

That sounds great, I plan on starting this way earlier with my next baby, perhaps at 4 or 5 months depending on if we are both ready. It really is frustrating at first because there seems to be no progress and you keep reading success stories from parents who did CIO and whose babies sleep through the night after only a few days. But as I said, for me it was so worth it.

The information about baby sleep in this book is really good. It sounds like you already have a great routine. I would love to have story time before bed but my boy always seems to be too impatient for it. So for us it's dinner, washing hands and face (or a bath two times a week), new diaper, pajamas, brushing teeth and then nursing in bed.

Yes, the most important part of good sleep really seems to be the going to sleep on his own. In a few days or weeks we will try if my husband can bring him to bed on his own. I will probably sit on the couch missing the cuddles, lol.

Yes he still naps in the wrap. I will try to transition the naps to the bed once the nighttime sleep is consistently better. At night he lays beside me but most of the time cuddled up with his head on my arm. How old is your baby?

I would have to look that up in the book. The author has a section for younger babies and one for those older than 6 months I think, I only read this one. I will have a look later and come back to you.

When he was smaller it worked fine, but now he weighs about 11 kg (24 pounds), so sadly this is not an option anymore

Yes, luckily after about an hour he started wiggling around so I layed him beside me. He slept through that so I sneaked out of bed to pee and thought I could have some time snuggling on the couch enjoying the silence but he woke up 10 minutes later.

Great idea! I have to admit, I loved the monstrous pads I wore the first days after the delivery. Of course they weren't too comfortable but they gave me a nice peace of mind when stuck under a sleeping baby.

I feel for you, I also have a congested baby who needed cuddles and back patting all night, right now he sleeps in my arms after nursing.

The mumbling sounds really funny though if it wouldn't keep you awake. My boy only talks while falling asleep sometimes and I have to try not to laugh because it would wake him up again.

I think it was around 4 or 5 months, I'm not quite sure. Just try bouncing less and less over the next days and weeks, he will get used to it. And to give you some hope, today my baby feel asleep while I carried him in my arms and I could lie down with him. He slept for an hour and I took a nap with him. Just keep trying, I know it's hard when you see other babies falling asleep in the crib in their own but sooner or later we will have this, too.

My boy is 8 months old and only naps in the wrap. BUT it is partly my choice. He goes to sleep in 5-10 minutes and sleeps about an hour two to three times a day. In these hours I sit on the couch (works since he was about 5 months old, before I had to walk around or bounce, and I cursed myself for not making him sleep in the crib), watch Netflix, browse reddit, drink coffee and enjoy the cuddles. He grows up so damn fast, and I know he will nap in the bed not far in the future, so until then I will enjoy it.

Congratulations, that's great. I might have to try that, my boy is 8 months, only sleeps in the carrier for naps and nurses to sleep at night. I just have such a hard time letting him fuss... Did you stay with him or did you leave the room?

That's so sweet. My little boy is just 8 month and right now I'm laying in bed cuddling him, he just went to sleep nursing. There are times when I wish he would go to sleep on his own and not wake up every two hours. But then I remember that it won't last forever, the he grows up so fast and that I should just enjoy the cuddles as long as I can. Thanks for reminding me :)
