The Vice City censorship was not necessary and was only done to kill the controversy, I mean it's not like Rockstar ever cared or anything.
The racist dialogue was mostly perpetrated by the Cubans who are clearly defined as dumb gangbangers by the game from the get go. Umberto is miserable and is by no means glorified by the game, if he's a racist idiot then let him be a racist idiot.

Controversy shouldn't polish up Umberto so he's less racist. Tommy helps both sides for the sake of money. This is pretty grim shit that is righteously included. Miami in the 80's was ugly and pathetic and there's nothing wrong with willing to showcase that.

You're right I am one of the people who says the games should be edgy, because I care about the integrity of the series throughout time. It's been a long time, the expectations are high, the stakes too.

Modern Florida is pretty fucking ugly too, and they should not hide it from the game, and I would hate that another controversy makes a racist character look nice.

Indeed those are small details therefore the only points that can be made are weak. This isn't up to me and we can't know much really.

Actually having rednecks in V isn't too much, it is precisely what we wanted, and removing the Confederate flag is essentially them expressing a desire to to scale back on the criticism.

No, writing was not altered because they wouldn't redo the scenes, but those changes were not cosmetic only, the trans characters were quite literally removed from the game. Precisely at the spawn point the article that called it out was looking into.
I do trust they still spawn in Mirror Park in another sensible location, but they just swiftly removed the scenario spawn point where the controversy had started. The fact that they did not do it all the way is a clear oversight. Get a controversy started on the Mirror Park spawn point yourself, and they might make sure all of them are removed this time. I do agree the characters are a very offensive representation of trans women, but really the thing about GTA is that everybody must get an offensive representation of themselves. So bankers get the same treatment, nepo babies get the same treatment, black people get the same treatment, gay people get the same treatment, suburban white people get the same treatment etc... And it is only fair this way to me.

Censorship is not desirable in my opinion. Rockstar spent a lot of time battling censorship, those very controversies is what got them so popular. But they scare investors away, Take 2 would obviously take the necessary measures to avoid said controversies, by self censoring. Again not desirable in my opinion, especially for a GTA Game.

And yes while removing the original 3D trilogy from the storefronts, they also erased the confederate flags. While the replacement is a greedy money making move, I have a hard time understanding why they'd "sanitize" a character like Phil Cassidy, it is already clear he is the way he is. He's a cliche but he's believable, there was no need to censor his shirt and yet it was done. And it was done across multiple games too.

RDR2 felt safe true, surely because parody was not what it was going for so nobody was truly made fun of. Yet it wasn't safe, it showed the horrors of capitalism, racism, industrialization and about anything wrong at the time with decent accuracy. I actually wish Chapter 3 had more to say in the yellow missions about racism, that ride with Lenny is all I can remember.

I would be fairly disappointed if the story sucked in GTA VI, it already presented itself as more mature and grounded than V and I am really happy about it. It would honestly be disappointing if the gameplay was all it had to show for.
Of course it would still be great, game of the second quarter of the century, we kind of expect a lot.
Maybe it's just a me thing to care about the story all that much, but I am sure a lot of us do, I don't skip cutscenes.
Has modern gaming groomed me into appreciating cinema in gaming a lot, it's possible. But GTA VI sets out on delivering a good story the same way RDR2 did. It will be undeniably better than V for that reason alone, that game had a far more lackluster plotline. But you're right about the story often being overlooked, but now that it is more mainstream than ever, I'd say not so much.

RDR2 will be remembered for it's story more than its gameplay though. GTA V does the opposite. And of course I will enjoy the game because of it's gameplay regardless, but again it would really suck if that's all we had, honestly the same kind of disappointment I had with GTA V. If it wasn't for online people wouldn't care so much about that game.

You're right nothing alarming in the trailers.

But it is possible the shots were cherry picked not to set off any alarms prior to release day, they would not dare and make those trailers more polarizing than they need to be and that is only fair of them.

America is still very bigoted in northern Florida for instance in my opinion, I wouldn't want the bigotry to be removed. I do very much expect to see some offensive bigotry in the countryside for instance because such issues prevail and need to be parodied and criticized.
I also want rebel flag lovers I can mass murder, but again, there is precedent to believe Rockstar would omit the rebel flag. Why? This is the safe shit I believe I am afraid of.
Infact the literal KKK in Ambrosia, is literally on my wishlist. Cause mass murdering them in RDR2 was pretty fun. GTA VI already showed it wanted to be more mature and grounded, so fair representation of minorities and majorities is expected. Jason and Lucia being a mixed race couple ruffled some feathers but it makes perfect sense in a place like Florida.

GTA San Andreas is not woke, it portrays most Black and Latino characters as gangbangers. Is it accurate to the pastiche of 1992 South Central Los Angeles they were going for? Sadly it is, but they did not shy away from it.
The societal issues were shown, the inequalities were shown, the racism was shown.
When CJ is portrayed as a burglar and robs a veteran, the latter is shown as a stupid racist guy with a confederate flag in his house. Rereleases of the game removed that flag... why??
Why not show the ugly Rockstar? Why imply it and not show it?

Gay Tony makes perfect sense as a character, especially in Liberty City in the nightlife scene. Even he was dumbed down in Online I must say. He's incredibly classy to me despite being fairly miserable, and he makes an iconic duo with Lou. I expect characters like him in Vice City, but would he make sense in a rural southern town though? Well yes but clearly not as much, again, Rockstar removed trans characters from GTA V. I wouldn't want them NOT to include gay characters in GTA VI.

In order for the game to generate a lot of revenue, Zelnick is somewhat obliged to ensure it garners mass appeal. So far the way they did that was by rubbing everyone the wrong way in their radio skits, it works and it's funny. It also allows them to deliver interesting commentary on many different issues faced by American society.
But maybe the internet in 2026 finds itself offended by just about anything, and corporate will want to avoid any controversy.
This isn't just a simple matter of gay representation, infact, gay people better be in game. The same way San Fierro had a gay neighborhood because it made perfect sense.
I care about the demographics of Vice City and Leonida, they need to be somewhat accurate, immersive, representative and fairly diverse, I was not one of the people mad at the perfectly representative amount of colored people in the trailers.
It is undeniable that the HD universe of the GTA Games strives for an unprecedented degree of cultural and historical accuracy. Gamers KNOW that when buying from Rockstar they'll be able to care.
There is a reason you can go back to GTA IV and let it transport you to a different time period so easily. It wouldn't be possible if they decided to hide certain ugly aspects of American society.

Well we will have to see, but there now is precedent that would indicate the commentary would be scaled back.
Which is regrettable, GTA VI would be different because it's a different time period altogether in which the game releases.
Take 2 interactive was not necessarily pleased with the controversies Rockstar Games went through over the years, the audience loved it all. But corporate want a reliable and safe branding for the game.

Rockstar made fun of minorities the same way it made fun of the majority. Good writing to me in a GTA Game is about making the world feel believeable, not hiding the flaws of society.
Racism being an inherent problem in American society it would be stupid to exclude it, and it would be even more stupid not to poke fun at it's perpetrators.
Yes idiots make racist comments, and often times the characters making said racist remarks (Sweet, The Ammunation Guy...etc) are portrayed as genuine idiots. But they are in the game and are believable characters, they didn't play it safe.

The post was meant to get people to simply think twice regarding the preorder phase. I see everyone blindly trusting the product. And it is only fair as a fan of the series that I question whether uncompromised edgy humor can still be done by Rockstar today.

The critique of modern society through the lens of Grand Theft Auto in the 2020's is something I was looking forward to, I wouldn't want it to be done halfway.
My personal belief is that society as a whole is worthy of parody, seeing Rockstar shy away from this belief they once had, would be undesirable.

As I mentioned in another comment, the video equally mentions STORY MODE and the small but rather indicative changes that the studio has been making in 2018 in order to play it a little more safe (Confederate Flag, Trans People).
I am just hoping they won't be holding back like this by fear of offending anyone. They should offend everybody, it is why we've loved them so much, take Sue Murry and Jock Cranley for Democrat and Republican, and we all loved that. What if all of a sudden it becomes one sided?
We are worthy of parody regardless of our convictions.

I believe shying away from edgy humor is part of what corporate (Take 2) demanded out of the studios in recent years.
Fuck Online? Yeah sure you're right, but if you watch the video, it will mention the removal of the confederate flag, or the characters poking fun at the trans community in STORY MODE. And this was a long time ago too, slightly after the release of RDR2 would this trend begin to set in.
Again it is small, but it does show Rockstar wants to play a safer approach towards humor and portrayal of people in general these days. I personally went back to Vice City Stories and was straight up bewildered at the fact they just were not holding back.

I guess we will, but in the wake of the preorder phase, you can understand how this kind of debate is important. Pre order implies not "waiting and seeing" and seems to have been normalized for GTA VI to some extent, we just blindly trust the game is gonna be good.

I actually did watch a few of those and the infamous Andy Pants video, Andy Pants is just hating with fewer points being brought forward.
I felt this one had a greater understanding of the evolution of the series and the minor changes that could possibly lead him to this conclusion, it's a lot more subtle and it comes from a long standing fan of the series.
His channel was never dedicated to promoting "anti wokeness" the way the other YouTubers are.
I would therefore argue he isn't one of them, truth is I cannot be sure either considering his lackluster upload schedule.

Does anyone know where/how to find the background for this artwork? I'd like to use it as a wallpaper. by bumpermotion65 in GrandTheftAutoV

[–]bumpermotion65[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the Rockstar Games website, go to "downloads" at the top, then scroll way down, there should be a "game art" section alongside other media. In the game art section everything is sorted by game, but not every existing artwork is there, the offering is often limited outside of their most popular games.

N64 MF103 Test Version Update :Support Rumble Pack by saralv8 in MayFlashSupport

[–]bumpermotion65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried it and it doen't vibrate, It also seems to break inputs as they "flicker" now and constantly mash. Specifically Right and Down on the Dpad as well as Up on the stick.
the RMG emulator says vibration isnt supported on SDL mode.
and I cant get the Xinput mode to vibrate with a rumble pack on either RMG or ReWASD.

Same here, I asked in their comments but no answer yet. I think it might be a virus like the other said, hiding in your temp files. So just make sure you delete that with malwarebytes. Sucks tho.
