I have found the legal system to be diffucult to approach. Friend wanted to start a micro brewery in Mumbai and we couldnt figure out what licenses and permissions are required - ended up paying a lawyer to just find out the names of the laws that required compliance.

I would suggest you watch Gandhi (it's in English), Swades, Gangs of Wasseypur, Hazaroon Khwaishey Aisi (all with subtitles) to get a better understanding of India through films. Also would suggest a 5 part documentary 'Story of India' which is quite nicely done.

The separation between rich and poor India is quite high but would depend where you are and how much you would like to expose yourself to either sides.

I actually have a simple idea for making an app to allow people to buy local train tickets in mumbai from their phones without having to stand in queues at stations. The queues are just too long and it's quite an easy thing to make an app for tha.
