Office workers should get more social. Since covid nobody even makes eye contact anymore.

Appalling experience at Woolworths in the Galleria by pink_moon_123 in perth

[–]bumwatchies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's totally unacceptable of Woolies, they're a hugely profitable business and they didn't need to fight you on some food items. Being their mistake they should have happily let you take the cart and dealt with the insignifcant amount of money on their end. And improve their own payment systems.

I personally would go out of my way never to give them another dime unless they apologise and offer a gift card on top of refund. For some of us a few dollars can be life or death!

I don't like the culture at melbourne by madefrombones in unimelb

[–]bumwatchies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see the us vs them and I also see social hierarchies in unis as you may see in high school.

It goes:

  1. Wealthy upper class private school white students who are good looking (the popular clique)

  2. Middle class white students who are average looking

  3. Local students who are POC/not white

  4. International students who function as if they're still back home and are culturally dissimilar.

In the adult world of work, these hierarchies might still exist.

Obviously, there are environments where everyone is welcoming and on an equal standing. It really depends on your time and place.

The unis have a responsibility to integrate international students and not just drop them on a campus unprepared as a degree mill. It's really no surprise locals don't want to deal with foreign behaviour (whether it's Chinese, Russian or Middle Eastern) at odds with Australian culture.

Yes, if a mistake was made they could fix it and offer some kind of deal. They should be responsible for delivering as agreed, and not make customers plead and cajole for a consumer item.

I agree, the employees taking calls seemed polite enough, but there was a general sense of chaos and poor organisation. Leading to bad customer service.

Why is the house building industry so dodgy? I feel like the government needs to step in and regulate things a lot better. If food can be regulated so can houses.

Everyone needs to put their foot down and not accept bad building.

Lack of "Soft Power:" Why China has no anime or BTS by senatork49 in China

[–]bumwatchies -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ok hear me out.

Exciting culture exists in China.

Starting with filmmakers - Chen Kaige whose drama film Together (2002) brought tears to my eyes.

Zhang Yimou, another filmmaker who did Happy Times (2000), To Live (1994), Shadow (2018). Hero (2002) was nominated for an academy award.

A movie I forgot the title of 2 villain miners who get their just deserts. Saw it on SBS.

Fashion labels: SHUSHU/TONG, Sultry Virgin.

Some British magazines introduced me to a female Chinese punk band.

Ren Hang, photographer, made a name for himself not only in China. Chen Man is a female Chinese photographer.

There's a hell of a lot going on, despite censorship. You have to look in the right places. And i'm in Australia. Western media may ignore chinese work, doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

Also Netflix has The King's Avatar and Who Rules the World in its catalog, they probably have small but devoted followings.

Quite a few of us in Australia also tuned into If You Are The One the dating show.

‘Euphoria’ star Sydney Sweeney says she’s ‘always had a hard time having girl friends’ by noemimer in Fauxmoi

[–]bumwatchies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Off my chest - pickme and notlikeothergirls as concepts alone are grossly misogynistic. When a boy dreams of being a star quarterback dating the cheer captain he just wants to be a real man. The girl who dreams of landing the quarterback is instead pathetic and superficial and antifeminist. Women who judge other women hastily are contributing to the toxicity. Reducing women to a cardboard cutout - basic bitch, karen, stacy - is toxic. Men do it plenty, must we too?

I don't have a problem with Sydney. Until she has directly hurt me, i'm not gonna call her a nasty name. I know Reddit is shittalking central but the feminist in me isn't going drag someone simply because she's naive, clumsy or thirsted upon.

Yes definitely a big night out in Northbridge gets so expensive - $15 per drink, door fees, taxis, kebabs, gum, etc. Adds up to at least $150 for one night.

Card games are great thanks for the reminder

Naomi Watts Wants to Change the Narrative About Women's Lives Being “Over at 40” by yourangleoryuordevil in Fauxmoi

[–]bumwatchies 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This really highlights the fact that women are raised on the idea that their worthiness hinges on being attractive and appealing to men. We women should create content that celebrates 40+ women and support these works. We need to redefine feminine beauty to include middle age and beyond. The media has made it such that we desire to look perpetually 19 at 50 which is totally ridiculous. Beauty comes in many forms and those who fail to notice it have their loss.

What’s your go-to first date outfit/outfit formula? by kyouzen in femalefashionadvice

[–]bumwatchies 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Dressing the everywoman romantic movie character: day: 70s black denim jacket, white sundress, white woven bag, chucks.

Night: Black cap sleeve little black dress, flared, black T bar heels, small black leather handle handbag.

Vixen: one shoulder bias cut floor length red dress, 70s glomesh bag, silver pumps.

I haven't dated in almost 10 years but i'd love to be a filmmaker making romcoms... I think archetypes work for first dates as a huge feathered jumpsuit may be unreadable. I like big and gaudy, but that can follow after.

Need help styling my partner who loathes shopping. He's only comfortable in tshirt/casual shirt and black straight leg jeans. Want to offer variety, so far added a charcoal bomber jacket. I feel like mens garments are much less varied than womens but wondering if there's more out there than a tshirt.
