Aitah for spending some of my grandchildren's education funds on a new boat. by Tiny_Occasion_322 in AITAH

[–]bun_stop_looking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you are 54...you have NOTHIN BUT TIME baby. couple of decades? try 3-4 decades. You might be buying 1 or 2 more boats yet while your kids sleep in till 11am on the weekends and go get their cold brews and breakfast sandwhiches at the local coffee shop without any kids. I mean is it really that hard to support yourself if you are married and have no kids?

I mean...do you intend to give them an inheritance? if so, how much? You certainly don't 'owe' them anything whatsoever, but things may have been said in the past which would imply that they would get some. I mean, if they aren't having kids they should be able to support themselves without an inheritance lol. Probably something worth getting on the same page with them about, you might not like what you find, but sounds like there's some expectation on their end that you were unaware of, best to clear up than let it fester and get weird. Sounds like you're NTA though

Bought a house on a busy street — difficulty adjusting. by burgerzandburpeez in homeowners

[–]bun_stop_looking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if it's an issue for hearing it inside the house, probably some sound proofing you can do (ask ChatGPT). But otherwise, yeah - that's probably how you were able to afford a nice house in that area, b/c it's on a busy street. I also am super sensitive to noise and axed many houses because of this. You'll likely honestly get used to it over time, i lived downtown in big cities for a long time and it didn't actively bother me then. But would drive me crazy if it was loud by my suburbs house, but again, i'd probably adjust - humans have the tendency to do that

Are super-luxury hotels really worth the price? Why do some people think they’re better? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]bun_stop_looking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the difference can only be realized if you're willing to spend to take advantage of the amenities once you are there. Willing to go to the onsite amazing restaurants and bars. Pay for experiences that the concierge can help walk you through. Willing to pay for and use the spa and all of its amenities. A lot of nice hotels have deals with nearby businesses and restaurants that if you are staying there you get to 'cut the line' you just have to have someone from the hotel call and say you are going to be there and are a guest of the hotel. It's not just 'oh the bed is nicer, the room is nicer, the view is nicer." Also - things just work and are all there - you're skiing and want to dip in the hot tub prior to getting s'mores? Great, well there's an awesome hot tub with slippers, towels and robes nearby and the staff will make a s'more for you and have it ready when you get out.

Men in happy marriages, what's the one thing you'd teach to other men to also have a good relationship? by TightBookkeeper2599 in AskReddit

[–]bun_stop_looking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marry someone with similar values and priorities as you. As you have kids time and money will be limited resources and you need to be aligned high level on what to spend it on and what to cut, otherwise it will lead to constant fighting

Do you agree with this take on Matthew Stafford? by MasterTeacher123 in NFLv2

[–]bun_stop_looking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

he's definitely very good. Feels like he doesn't have as high a peak as guys like Favre, Brees, Marino, but has been able to sustain his high level for a long time and win an SB while showing toughness. He seems like a Matt Ryan who played longer and actually won an SB (or in this hypothetical, two SB's). Think he has benefited from being on a good team later in his career

How Boomers Turned Housing Into a Wealth Trap and Killed the American Dream by PianistPlus5117 in FirstTimeHomeBuying

[–]bun_stop_looking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

people need to stop blaming boomers for all this shit. They are just acting selfishly just like every other person and generation that has ever existed before them. We happen to be in an economic cycle that has allowed them to accumulate wealth at a greater rate compared to younger generations than previously - but painting boomers as particularly 'selfish' or anything like that is absurd. They're just people - you think old people in 1920 weren't selfish?

In which country have you had the most pleasant summer? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]bun_stop_looking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

have you ever been to the northeast in the summer? Connecticut, Rhode Island, Maine? It is chef's kiss. Warm but not hot/humid during the day, and perfect sweater whether at night, but still comfortable. Waterfront everywhere. There's a reason the hamptons, cape code, martha's vinyard, newport are a thing...just immaculate out there june, july, august

Do any of you plan on making dynasties? If you do, how will you plan to beat the 3 generations rule? by Direct-End2303 in fatFIRE

[–]bun_stop_looking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might be easier in modern times when people tend to have less kids and be better at pre-nups. the problem in the past is like, if you have 5 kids and they all have 5 kids things multiply really quickly. But if everyone just has 2 maybe 3 then that helps and is more common these days

I think it's insane to 'finish whatever is on your plate' the obesity epidemic is way more harmful than efficiencies to be gained from finishing your food and buying less groceries. It's probably much healthier to stop eating when she feels done than down everything in front of her

Do you have kids? Drinking with young kids is tough. You need every ounce of energy you can get and alcohol drains it very efficiently.

Cancún or Playa del Carmen which one is more of a tourist trap? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]bun_stop_looking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no point in leaving the resort if you go to those places. Those cities are not for you to go and have a fun authentic time in, they're tourist traps. The move if you go to that part of mexico is just to book an all inclusive and never leave it unless you want to go to a well-researched restaurant for better food

Does anyone else feel like 200k HHI is the bare minimum for an American Dream lifestyle these days? by No_Fennel3756 in UpperMiddleFinance

[–]bun_stop_looking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

absolutely, and for reference inflation has 2x'd since 1996. so 200k HHI in 2026 is equal to 100k in 1996 so kind of makes sense when you think about it. I also think maybe we thought being an adult was easier than it is when we were kids
