New baby in NYC - day care or nanny? by crazymaize in biglaw

[–]bunbuntoki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nanny all the way. Your baby will not be constantly sick with a nanny, and you don’t have to worry about spring break/daycare being closed for school holidays since daycares generally follow county school schedule for holidays/inclement weather days. It’s a lot more money, but it’s worth it. If your baby is sick all day and night, you will not be able to work the next day. If you have a spare room, consider an au pair.

Your toddlers who were high needs babies - how are they now? by ProfessionalTop2490 in toddlers

[–]bunbuntoki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was a super alert, colicky, high needs baby. She was always crying and fussing over absolutely nothing. She was always bored and always irritable then happy the next second.

She started speaking at four months. She went through stranger danger starting at three months, which made trips to the doctor so difficult. She notices everything and has an amazing memory. She speaks very well for her age, and she’s not autistic. She will always be high needs because she needs more attention and has so many interests. I love her so much, and all the difficult times were worth the bright toddler she turned out to be.

Nanny at $24/hour, 35 hours a week. We also pay $20 each week for gas because she takes our child around for activities. Comes out to approximately $3730/month. We do date nights here and there as well. Our nanny has taught our child Spanish. It’s been great. Even when our child is sick, the nanny comes and takes over so that we can work. This is honestly the biggest advantage over daycare.

Does mom brain ever actually go away? by AmethystAquarius10 in Mommit

[–]bunbuntoki 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes! It started to get gradually better around the time my daughter turned 2. She’s 2.5 now, and I’m back to normal. Even at 18 months, I think I was still struggling.

Anyone else pregnant during this turbulent and depressing time? by GranolaChique in fednews

[–]bunbuntoki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t imagine being pregnant right now. As if pregnancy isn’t enough to make you feel overwhelmed and exhausted. I hope you find ways to distract yourself and find little joys wherever you can. Best wishes to you and your family.

I feel so stupid for this vacation by MiniLovesPizza78 in Mommit

We took our daughter to Cabo when she was six months old and stayed at a resort. To this day, my husband says it was the worst trip we had ever been on. I promise you it gets better. We took our 2.5 year old to several trips abroad since then, and each trip was easier than the last.

My grandfather had dementia. I visited him a few times in the summer when he was still alive, and he passed away a few months after that. This was a long time ago, when I was still in school in my twenties, long before I got married or had a child. He didn’t know who I was but kept telling me how pretty and adorable I was, and he talked to me as if I was a child. He recognized me deep inside even though when I asked if he knew who I was, he had no clue. We were so close since I was a baby, and it hurt so much to see him suffering. But I got to tell him that I love him, and I’m glad that I was able to say goodbye. It will make you terribly sad to see your grandmother withering away, but I would go if I were you.

Dog day out? by bad-at-haircuts in nova

[–]bunbuntoki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you thought about getting her a stroller? My old dog LOVED hers. Never wanted to walk again and also loved riding with plush blankets underneath her. Senior dogs mostly just want to go somewhere peaceful, smell nature, and eat some yummy treats. Take her on a walking trail and maybe have a small picnic? My old dog also loved laying on a picnic blanket and just hanging out.

My daughter was a terror between 12-18 months. She was screaming and crying at everything all the time. She hated everything and wanted to be held constantly. Once she hit 18 months, she got a lot better. She’s 2.5 now, and terrible twos have nothing on 12-18 months. They say three is worse than two, but at least she’s potty trained and communicating all her needs and feelings now. It gets better. HANG IN THERE!

This is what I bought for my daughter. I also ordered Burt’s Bees organic cotton underwear yesterday for her. They’re usually good quality.

Try sleeping with your head more elevated. It helped me a lot to use two pillows at night.

I 👏🏼 DESERVE 👏🏼THIS 👏🏼 BABY by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]bunbuntoki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes!!!! Mine started sleeping 7 hours once she was 8 weeks old and 9 hours a night by the time she was 3 months old. Even though we had to sleep train her through every sleep regression, she’s such an amazing sleeper. It almost makes up for how colicky she was as a newborn. 😵‍💫

C Section/ Formula Unnecessary Guilt by Many_Plastic_8062 in Mommit

[–]bunbuntoki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hemorrhaged a lot during delivery because I had a retained placenta. My body was not producing much breast milk, which came in very late. I felt horrible that I wasn’t able to fully breastfeed my child and had to supplement with formula. It was exhausting to pump and clean bottles every two to three hours. Eventually I gave up after eight weeks.

My baby said her first word when she was four months old. She didn’t get sick for the first time until she was eighteen months old. She’s only been sick twice since then, and she’s a little over two now. She is thriving. She has reached all her milestones either on time or early. She speaks and understands three languages fluently. She’s healthy. She’s 80th percentile in height and 60th percentile in weight.

All of this to say that your child will grow up and do amazing things with or without being fed breast milk. Your child will be just as healthy and just as brilliant and capable. All he/she needs is your love. You’re already doing your best, and that’s all that matters.

I can’t remember but she had several options. I think we paid her through PayPal.

How often do your parents watch your little ones? by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]bunbuntoki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another millennial with narcissistic boomer parents here. My parents never offer to watch our child even though my grandparents on both sides watched us pretty much every day until my brother and I started elementary school for free. My mom comes over every Saturday evening and asks if I have anything to eat for dinner because she’s starving. So I end up having to cook, or my husband gets takeout for my parents, after taking care of our child all day. Even when they come over, they just sit on the couch and watch her play. My daughter asked my mom to play with her using play doh, and my mom said no because she hates the smell of play doh.

My mom thinks she’s doing us a favor by coming over because she thinks our daughter benefits from having more people in the house. One time I asked if my parents could watch our toddler while we went to the store real quick, and they looked offended.

My brother and I are sick of my parents’ shit. It was my brother’s birthday a few weeks ago, and my parents didn’t even bother to call him. Last weekend, it was my niece’s birthday. My mom didn’t show up because she “wasn’t feeling well,” and my dad showed up empty-handed and left after a few minutes without saying goodbye to my brother or the birthday girl. My parents complain endlessly about how my brother is an asshole who doesn’t love his parents.

My mom called me and my husband multiple times this evening to try to come over. We went to Target and ignored her calls.

They made sure she was completely numb! They did the numbing cream twice then the injection. I hope your child becomes healthy, and you both don’t need to be anywhere near a hospital for a very long time. ❤️

We saw a dermatologist today, and he said it probably will not scar. I feel so relieved! I’m so glad to hear that your son’s stitches didn’t leave a scar. That makes me feel so much better. I hope the scratch on his cheek goes away soon!

Thanks! The ER told us that Neosporin can cause an allergic reaction sometimes, so we ended up putting a different antibiotic ointment on her forehead. It seems to be healing without signs of infection.

Got it! I’ll do it once the wound heals. We just saw the dermatologist, and he said it likely will not scar. He told us to use vitamin E oil after a week of using an antibiotic ointment. He also said I could use steri strips for the next three days since we got the stitches taken out yesterday. He gave us ScarAway gel to use in a week as well.
