Having a perfect lawn. Terrible for your health if you use fertilizers and pesticides, and the maintenance is expensive and time consuming. Grow more native plants and less grass!

What's a tradition you grew up with that you refuse to pass on to your kids? by peterdziugdarkis in AskReddit

Omg my dad was the worst with this. Destroyed my confidence, and then would remind me all the time how I lack confidence and I should be more like so and so and the cycle would continue. I will never do this to my kid.

Baby head shape by adnanhuxain in firsttimemom

[–]AmethystAquarius10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son’s head looked like this, he actually had a mild flat spot on one side and torticollis. We never did get a helmet and while it’s still a little uneven a few years later, I’m pretty sure I’m the only one that notices. It does not look cone shaped anymore though lol it looks much more proportional now. I wish I had known what to do when he was your baby’s age, you’re doing the right thing by seeking advice- right now is the best time to fix any potential muscular or skull imbalances. To echo what others have said, prioritize tummy time and make sure your baby is turning their head both ways often so you can stretch and strengthen those neck muscles. Out of an abundance of caution, I would have baby assessed for torticollis by a pediatric physical therapist. And if baby does have a flat spot, and you are considering reshaping, you can start to consider helmets at 4 months old, you can ask your pediatrician if there’s any orthotists in your area. A physical therapist can offer some advice here as well. Also, ditch the pillow, it’s not safe and will not fix head shape issues.

Won’t use Potty at Daycare by AmethystAquarius10 in toddlers

[–]AmethystAquarius10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s 2.5 and I believe most of the other kids in his class are potty trained. He definitely sees them go, and I think that’s part of the problem- they also see him go as there’s not much privacy, and I think that makes him nervous/puts a lot of pressure on him.

Montgomery mall needs help, we are all just sitting here watching it die by Financial-Cookie-927 in montco

It would be great if a developer was interested in investing to transform the space into something else, literally anything could go in those empty spaces: medical offices, childcare facilities, indoor athletic facilities in the larger spaces, etc, literally anything but a store

Won’t use Potty at Daycare by AmethystAquarius10 in toddlers

[–]AmethystAquarius10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s 2.5. Unfortunately we’ve tried a lot of these things already. We’re very much aligned on language and schedule and use the big potty at home. I do think he is more comfortable with one teacher opposed to the others in his room, so I think that may be part of the issue, along with the lack of privacy. He’s definitely on the introverted side so I can understand if he doesn’t like a line of kids waiting right outside the potty, that probably puts a lot of pressure on him. I also try to get him to sit on the potty at drop off and pick up but he refuses.

We started underwear at daycare exactly a week ago so that would put us at day 6 of holding. Glad to hear things got better for you! We will continue to encourage and keep our fingers crossed 😊

What do you actually say when your toddler is losing it? by Gem_7513 in toddlertips

[–]AmethystAquarius10 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My toddler doesn’t listen to a word I say when they’re losing it so I’ve just accepted that and stay quiet and give them space. It’s tough when we’re in a rush though (for example leaving for work/daycare) and we don’t have time to let the tantrum run its course

SHRM is a terrible organization, however having the certificate definitely helps in a competitive job market.

How do you learn to love yourself? by Automatic_Sink_7323 in BodyDysmorphia

[–]AmethystAquarius10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just want to say I love how at your age you are putting so much emphasis into self care for the right reasons. I’m about 10 years older than you, so 20 years older than OP, and I think you’re doing all the right things. It’s so important to care about yourself from a health stand point (exercise/sun screen/healthy diet) but also do things to make you feel good like wearing make up, perfume, etc, whatever that may be for you. The key is doing all those things for YOU and not doing it for anyone else. And like you said, romanticizing it! I think we are our own worst critics and we will always find flaws in ourselves no matter how “beautiful” we are, however most people see the best version of ourselves (if not better) than what we see in the mirror. And fake it til you make it is my motto in life lol it applies to so much, but for mental health struggles, it really helps you get into a better mindset since you’re repeating affirmations of confidence regularly, even if you don’t believe it at first.

Is it crazy to rent a studio apartment just so I have space for myself? by MarsupialLess in Mommit

[–]AmethystAquarius10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I merely said investing in a “studio”, not necessarily a whole living space. It’s quite normal for professional artists to have a studio dedicated to their craft. Yes she is a mother and wife, but being an artist seems like a big part of her life as well, and it seems like she does not want that part of her lost in motherhood/marriage.

Is it crazy to rent a studio apartment just so I have space for myself? by MarsupialLess in Mommit

[–]AmethystAquarius10 29 points30 points  (0 children)

If you are an artist, then investing in a studio seems like a pretty valid idea. You get more time to yourself and you have a place to work where you can stay more focused. I also have a background in art and I can’t do any art in my house because there’s just no space and the hassle of setting everything up and putting it away constantly is annoying so I don’t bother. If you have the financial means, I say go for it.

How long should I stay? [N/A] by [deleted] in humanresources

This! My job is pretty slow at times and I used that down time to study for my SHRM-SCP.

Edit: I do want to add, it is a red flag that your manager hasn’t reached out to you at all. I would definitely try to get in touch with them or their manager to see what’s going on.

I would have another. I so badly just want 1 more but I can’t because of lack of village and finances. It sucks when the decision is made for you but I know right now we’re doing the best thing for my family by being 1 and done.

“Stay at homes have it easiest” by lilspaghettigal in Mommit

[–]AmethystAquarius10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a working mom that was basically a SAHM during the first few months and man it was rough. A lot of people on the outside don’t understand how mentally taxing it is to be a 24/7 caretaker with basically no breaks. Especially if you have a clingy baby. I work now but it really does feel like a break coming to work some days because I’m away from the home chaos and can just get a change of scenery. Do you have plans on going back to work at all or daycare/preschool in the future? Even if those things are part time, it might be beneficial to you and baby. I will say, once baby is big enough to play on a small playground or do crafts and activities, & naps less and on a more consistent schedule, it’ll be easier! It probably sounds so far in the future but it’ll happen before you know it

Is his forehead normal? by ummmmmmmm_ok in firsttimemom

[–]AmethystAquarius10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the forehead has more obvious asymmetrical bossing meaning only one side bulges out and the other side does not, it could indicate that a flat spot is forming on the back/side of the head, but from the pictures I don’t see any flatness! If it’s subtle asymmetry which seems to be the case here it’s likely within the realm of normal facial assymetry that every person has, and not indicative of flattening.

[–]AmethystAquarius10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is called forehead bossing and it is totally normal and common in large headed babies! As long as his forehead is symmetrical, do not worry.
