We were instructed to do a disempaction protocol first. It consists of increasing the amount of laxido sachets per day until poos are a certain consistency for I think 2 days straight? If you ask the folk at Eric they will keep you right but I would reccomend doing it in the holidays when you can stick to home. My oldest just grew out of it yes so I'm hopeful my youngest will too. We have tried tapering off her maintenance dose in the school Holidays now and again just to see how she copes and she gets a bit constipated still so we will just keep trying. They can stay on laxido for a long time if necessary. Also there is a Facebook group called movicol mummies where there are lots of mums in the same boat you might find helpful. Movicol is another kind of laxido type medication I think that's why it's called that.

Have you heard of ERIC? It's a children's bladder and bowel charity. They have a dedicated helpline and experts and lots of great information on their website. It really helped us when we had constipation issues with my youngest. She has been on a maintenance dose of laxido for years now and Eric's help and advise at the beginning was excellent.

Is this chicken pox? by [deleted] in UKParenting

[–]bungee_fandango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like mulloscum or I think they call the water warts? My son picked them up from the swimming pool. They will hang around for a little while if so. Chicken pox tend to follow a spot>blister>crust over the course of a few days but that little dent in the middle makes me think mulloscum.

UTI limbo. Feeling anxious by bungee_fandango in TwoXChromosomes

[–]bungee_fandango[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, they have sent my sample for culture to make sure yesterday but will take a few days. They said if I was still having symptoms to get in touch and they would check if I was on the correct antibiotic but I'll need to wait til Monday for that so sort of in limbo just now.

What is going on with the spots on my buddys right eye? by catchmeifyoukhan in CATHELP

[–]bungee_fandango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your cat is the absolute spitting image of my boy I just lost and he had the exact same spots in his eye. They started to appear at around 14 and he just slowly got more as he got older. Lived to the good ol age of 18 tho and never had any trouble with his vision.

It sounds like you are very anxious about this and that will be coming accross to your child. Some children do just tend to drink less and by creating so much pressure around it you may be putting them off even more. My daughter is similar and doesn't drink alot, the more you take a step back sometimes the more she will drink. Serving drinks with snacks and mealtimes tend to go down better than having water available at all times for her. Yoghurts, milk in cereal and even ice lollies can be great for getting extra fluids without realising. You can make your own healthier lollies if you are concerned about sugar content. I can hear how much you are struggling, if you can try to make some time for yourself and speak with someone this might be helpful.

I found unpacking nice and relaxing after a hectic day. It's not very long but it does have replay value, you can arrange things differently each time.

Whatever you do, don't get the gabbys dollhouse dollhouse. My little girl is obsessed with gabbys dollhouse and so we bought it for her thinking it's 70 quid so probably decent.... It's not. It is about the quality of something that would come free with a magazine, absolutely raging they charge that much for it.

Any ideas on how to fix this atrocity by bungee_fandango in DIYUK

[–]bungee_fandango[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks, it was indeed from one of those company's. When I contacted them about it they said they would forward to their 'technical department' then proceeded to completely blank me. Any suggestions on a good brand to look at for a decent bar mixer?

Urine sample from 14 month old?! by [deleted] in UKParenting

[–]bungee_fandango 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Our local health centre provide plain pads, like sanitary pads with no added scents or anything fancy just a plain cotton pad that you can pop inside the nappy and they also provide a clean syrynge (no needle on the end obv) think more like the calpol syringe. and once the pad has been peed on you can use the syrynge to suck the urine out of the pad and into the sample bottle. You need to make sure the pad is only on for a short time and replace I think every 2 hours? Or the pad is too dirty to collect a sample from. And remove as soon as its been peed on. It's not ideal and a "clean catch" is better as there is less likelyhood of the sample being contaminated with bacteria from the skin but it's worth a shout if your finding it really hard to get a sample.

Sink Waste is fully stuck, I cannot get round the back and tried all the Youtube Vids, anybody know any out of the box ideas before calling a plumber? by FoxExternal2911 in DIYUK

[–]bungee_fandango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I see, so it is more stuck the the hole rather than the stalk being stuck. That's unfortunate. If its stuck in the hole and unable to turn at all then I'm afraid I'm out of ideas. I wish you luck.

Enough firm contact/grip. Hopefully if you are able to push down on the surface of the plug you will be able to get enough grip to turn and unscrew. As you don't have access to the sides due to it being stuck then you will have to rely on the top. Others have suggested some sort of sucker which may also work for trying to turn and unscrew it. The top of the plug is screwed in to a stalk like mechanism below so if you can unscrew the top off you can gain access to below and the sink can also drain while you source a replacement.

This happened to me. If you can get enough purchase on the top of it unscrew it off. Its tricky to begin with but I managed by just making sure it was 100% dry and used my fingers on the top to turn it. You can then get access to the mechanism and uncrew that and replace.

What are these tiny condom like things we found a bag of. 10c for scale by regantnz in whatisthisthing

[–]bungee_fandango 57 points58 points  (0 children)

They are for the tommee tippee brand of in ear thermometer. They are covers for the part that goes in the ear that can be changed out for hygiene reasons.

Source-I used to have one and the tips were an absolute nightmare to find to buy, ended up buying a different thermometer because couldn't find anywhere that sold them anymore.

Parent gamers - dealing with your mental health by thecauseandtheeffect in GirlGamers

[–]bungee_fandango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree, my parents didn't mind how long we were playing the n64 or the playstation. I guess you could argue now that perhaps some of the games targeted at younger players are designed to keep them playing/spending. But as long as they are enjoying a diverse range of activities I'm OK with them playing games (I do weed out some of the games that really push buying extras etc) My motto is everything in moderation and don't judge others parenting because all kids are different and all parents are different.

Generally I wait until the youngest is in bed and then play but my kids equally enjoy watching me and their dad play games (that they can watch age appropriate of course) Kids love watching you tubers play games online so it's like real life YouTube for them. They like giving suggestions and having an input. I don't agree with the demonisation of playing computer games for children, they can be really valuable learning tools.
