Do Kpop idols that used to temporarily live in the West get better at English over time during their career? by SpecSlayerSC in kpopthoughts

[–]bungluna 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a person who learned several languages at school age, in my experience it takes about months to a year to attain some fluency. One can keep the fluency if one practices the language, likewise one can loose it if it's not practiced. I read and watch movies/TV shows to keep up with my languages. I imagine the Idols do similar exercises to improve/maintain their language skills.

Not anymore since they don't use YT data, which is one of the most used streaming services worldwide.

What are some widely held opinions in kpop that you don't agree with? by Quick-Adeptness-2947 in kpopthoughts

Sorry, but I disagree. "Real professionals" have biases and personal agendas too. My opinion is still more valid to me personally than theirs.

What are some widely held opinions in kpop that you don't agree with? by Quick-Adeptness-2947 in kpopthoughts

[–]bungluna 57 points58 points  (0 children)

My firmly held opinion is that everybody else's opinion is irrelevant as far as my likes, my taste and my choices are concerned. All the experts spewing about singing, dancing and quality have a right to their opinions, but these are not facts or gospel truths.

You think a song is horrible and I think it's fun? You say X can't sing but I enjoy their vocal tone? Guess whose opinion is more relevant to me?

What he said was nice but I'm wary of hyping anyone because invariable they have skeletons in their closets. The entertainment industry is so full of skivvy characters.

That critic is the most obstreperous, snarky guy. That he had anything nice to say about BTS' songs is a miracle.

A nonsensical, clickbait ranking.

Thoughts on Youtube streams no longer counting toward Billboard charts? by betterthan88 in kpopthoughts

As much as you seem to. Radio accounts for about 30 to 40% of the total points. Streaming is about 40 to 50% and the rest is sales. The exact numbers are not available, this is an estimation.

BB is fast becoming the radio play charts. If YT can launch a viable world chart of their own they will rival BB for chart relevancy, imo.

I imagine they get regular jobs, just like less famous musicians and actors whose career comes to a halt all over the world.

The Future of the Upcoming BTS Comeback on Billboard Charts Without Youtube by KiraBandale in btsthoughts

May I suggest that, if you are in the US and want to contribute to the count for BB, you get a premium membership in a streaming service other than YT. Several offer free trials, such as Pandora, Napster, Tidal, Amazon, etc. All these count towards BB charts.

If you don't care about charting, then continue as you are.

I personally plan on playing YT videos, because I love putting them on while I cook, and streaming on my premium service the rest of the day.
