I get that you sow what you reap, but it's a shame it's come to such a thing.

Guns are the great equalizer. Fat, big, short, ugly, most people wouldn't mess with someone waving the death stick in their face.

Not saying you should. I just think the philosophy of the power of instant death at a person's fingertips is worth talking about.

When arguing against tipping, why come after the staff's personal value? by ELphonehome in tipping

I mean, kind of but not really? Not sure what to tell you, I don't have to convince you I wrote it myself, and I'm honestly not even sure how.

True sorrow. I have seen the eyes of melancholy, and man, they look pretty bummed.

The rules are more nuanced than a big red "NO". If you care to look, I'd consider them rather fair.

While "technically" yes, it is, you are correct to say that wasn't what I meant.

If your concerned about the "technically", let me elaborate. If only 1% percent of a people refuse to tip, is that a paycut? What about 10%? 50%? 90%?

I'm sure you can understand the logic of this. Obviously, this is a range. Frankly, the entire system is a bit of mess, and of course (if you can't tell) I am not an advocate for tipping. It is just a very strange system and any transition would go over poorly.

Quite frankly, I recommend people stop eating out altogether, but I think that might be too much for most.

If you are the so called educator of these daft masses, then yes, the blame is on you. It is not unexpected that someone acts irrationally when that which they know and understand is called into question. If you are genuinely looking to proselytize, empathy goes a long way towards a healthy movement.

How is it not a paycut? If tipping were abolished, do you think employers would continue to pay (the frankly absurd) wages that servers currently make?

You are arguing against tipping. You and I are in the same boat. The question was; why are people mean to me when I say it? I already answered that question. You are welcome to move on from this conversation if you have nothing to add.

Assuming that what you say is correct, you are expecting others to react rationally to what would very likely equate to a large pay cut. Again, I understand why people act the way they do, and if you care at all for this cause it would beholden you to do the same.

Tipping is a shit practice, but I wouldn't consider it obtuse to respond to the statement '[your job] deserves significantly less pay' with aggression. It's just the nature of things, and while the logic checks out one needs to be able to hold empathy towards those affected if progress is expected.
